Because yet again I have the most horrific shaving rash! He says he doesn't mind but I do... Now I feel silly Blush

While we're here does anyone else suffer from the BURN and HORRID ingrown hairs? How do you prevent them.. I'm sick to death.

I wish I could just go all european and not do hair removal but it makes me itchy thinking about it.

The simple fact is I don't care if I am socially conditioned to do something as long as it's something I find pleasant. I'm sure I wear make up as a result of social conditioning but I enjoy doing so.

What I find more oppressive is being told I shouldn't do something purely on the basis of someone's idea of feminism or being told it can't feel nicer because the clitoris isn't hairy (PS not everyone's sexual experience is focussed on a clitoris)

FWIW waxing doesn't have to be painful, I had a very skill beautician who was very quick thorough and painless. Hair removal cream isn't painful at all

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 28/05/2012 09:23

SchrodingersMew - I know social conditioning exists, I studied psychology so know quite a bit about conditioning (thought you might have guessed that since you said you liked my name).

Ummm ... are you not thinking of Pavlov's dogs? Schrodinger was the physicist who devised the Schrodinger's Cat thought experiment to illustrate the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics. presents the problem in simple terms.

FeministPixie · 28/05/2012 10:04

This video- relevant.

Krumbum · 28/05/2012 11:30

Debeezandbirds this is for you www.fawcettsociety.org.uk/documents/Rape%20-%20The%20Facts.doc
This is just reported rapes.

DinahMoHum · 28/05/2012 12:44

my dp prefers it shaven. SHOCK HORROR. hes admitted it. Lots of blokes do. Lots of blokes dont. Lots dont care either way. I suspect most blokes are just happy to get near to one.

It doesnt bother me as it was something i did here and there anyway. He also asked me if id prefer him to shave his, or his chest. I didnt.

DinahMoHum · 28/05/2012 12:44

i dont really care if its to do with porn or not either.

LunarRose · 28/05/2012 14:51

Just watched your video - Why on earth is it empowering to women to tell them that they are to trim their fanjo into a triangle?!?! Why is it empowering to tell them what to do with it at all.

Krumbum - thanks for the link, but seriously no correlation between shaved fanjos and rape was mentioned. In fact shaved pubes weren't mentioned at all.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 28/05/2012 15:46

Sorry - haven't managed to read the whole thread, but I shave my fanjo. And I have been doing so for nearly 18.5 years - LONG before the arrival of internet porn - indeed, long before the arrival of the internet in our home (or any homes, as far as I am aware).

I decided one day that it was too bushy down there, and tried a trim - then wondered what shaving it off would be like - so I tried it and liked it. And it does feel cleaner to me.

I have NO desire to look like a 7-year-old - that was not in my mind at all when I first did it, nor has it ever been any part of the motivation since then. And I am not doing it for dh, because he wants me to look like some sort of porn star - he doesn't like to look at porn pictures of other women, because to him that feels like cheating on me. He likes the way it makes me look - and he is allowed to have an opinion on it, just as he is allowed to have (and even express) opinions on my hairstyle, clothes etc - but I dress and style my hair (wherever it is) to please myself, not him.

But I suspect some people won't believe me. Or they will find it easier to believe that I am some sort of brainless dupe of the patriarchal society, than to accept that an intelligent woman has made a different choice to them - and that that is OK, and doesn't make their choice any less good.

Mittzopachycephalosaurus · 28/05/2012 15:47

I do with my pubic hair however I feel at the time.

Shave, just trim, neglect, shave into a funny shape, I have two dermal implants very slightly above the genital area.
No man has ever seen them, and frankly I don't give a shit what any one thinks.

I also mess about with the hair on my head at a whim, have been blonde, shaved, black, spiky, hat on, hat off,.
I do it because I like it.

No pressure, no porn influence, no body to see the intimate grooming. Just. For. Fun .

I actually find the insistence that my choices, aren't actually my choices far more annoying than any man having an opinion on what I choose to do.

I have 'preferences' on a superficial level of what I might like in a partner re grooming, but they wouldn't make a bit of difference in a loving relationship. It is not all about control. And I have been controlled, and god knows what else.

Now I just enjoy making choices for my body, because it is mine and I love it.

This. Totally.

Mittzopachycephalosaurus · 28/05/2012 15:50

Mini Mexican wave for SDTG X Quite.

WorraLiberty · 28/05/2012 16:05

Shouldn't that be a 'Brazilian' wave? Grin

Empusa · 28/05/2012 16:11

What gets me is this idea that we couldn't possibly have thought of it on our own. It just has to have been put into our silly little heads by the porn industry.

Mittzopachycephalosaurus · 28/05/2012 16:15

Worra! Grin

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 28/05/2012 16:47

What gets me is this idea that we couldn't possibly have thought of it on our own. It just has to have been put into our silly little heads by the porn industry. exactly... so are none of our thoughts our own? did I just dye my hair red cos someone else thought of it first? am I thinking what to have for tea or am I being subliminaly (sp?) influenced? well I guess adverts, seeing other people etc do influence but at the end of the day I make my choices for me, for myself what suits me at the time, this changes and I resent being told I ONLY do stuff cos men make me.

Debeezandbirds · 28/05/2012 17:15

Krumbum At least 47,000 adult women are raped every year in the UK. Agree with this fact. This not not equate to one in four women every year.

Debeezandbirds · 28/05/2012 17:16

*does not.

Whatmeworry · 28/05/2012 17:33

But I suspect some people won't believe me. Or they will find it easier to believe that I am some sort of brainless dupe of the patriarchal society

I have it on the best authority that The Patriarchal Society doesn't give a fucking monkeys about fuzz.

BelieveInPink · 28/05/2012 18:37

FFS if this is what feminism is about then I'll kick it up the arse, thanks. Every Single Subject on feminism I have read on here from women like Krumbum have had me floored. To actually state your OPINION as fact when it very clearly isn't is so patronising it hurts my eyes to read. You're also downright rude to those with opposing opinions, categorically stating they are wrong. Not one person has fired back with a personal insult to those who prefer not to touch their pubic hair. Until I arrived of course, I think an untouched fanny looks awful and I wouldn't want to be the poor sod who had to get up close and personal with it. :o

Also, I wax the lot off because I try and get into a lovely shape and it never quite happens. Less maintenance to just get rid. And I swim a lot so I don't fancy spiders legs crawling out the outside of my swimsuit.

Oh and PS I love Worra.

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 28/05/2012 18:45

If it was men on here telling everyone who disagreed with them they were wrong and informing people why they shave their fanjos there would be outrage!

Krumbum · 28/05/2012 18:50

I was showing it to a particular poster who said that I was lying about something. It wasn't meant to be a direct example.

Debeezandbirds · 28/05/2012 18:52

You weren't lying Krumbum, didn't say you were, I said you had the facts wrong. Which you did.

Sallyingforth · 28/05/2012 18:52

My DP doesn't give a fuck if it's shaved or not.

erm, that's a shame. Have you tried counselling?

Debeezandbirds · 28/05/2012 18:54

Must agree with the personal insults point believeinpink. So far I have been called unclean and been told I have psychological issues. All because I shave my muff.

Krumbum · 28/05/2012 18:55

It says a quarter of women are raped worldwide every year. Debeezandbirds. I'm not giving a personal opinion, I'm talking about psychology and social science, believeinpink.
