WhiteWidow · 27/05/2012 17:19

Because yet again I have the most horrific shaving rash! He says he doesn't mind but I do... Now I feel silly Blush

While we're here does anyone else suffer from the BURN and HORRID ingrown hairs? How do you prevent them.. I'm sick to death.

I wish I could just go all european and not do hair removal but it makes me itchy thinking about it.

SchrodingersMew · 28/05/2012 00:44

Yellow No one apart from DP sees my fecking fanjo so why would I care about any social rules I may be breaking? My DP doesn't give a fuck if it's shaved or not.

Moominsarescary · 28/05/2012 00:44

I'll admit to some level of social conditioning. I don't fart in public as its not socially acceptable. Lots of things I don't do because I've been conditioned to think they would be socially unacceptable.

My choice to shave my fanny has nothing to do with social conditioning

SchrodingersMew · 28/05/2012 00:44

Krumbum This thread was about shaving, not waxing.

Shaving isn't painful and any rash can be sorted with some cream.

Moominsarescary · 28/05/2012 00:46

Or porn, the only porn I've watched was years ago and the women had hair. I had no bloody idea until recently that all porn stars are hairless.

SchrodingersMew · 28/05/2012 00:47

Krumbum

You commented that men wanted to shave us them rape us, FFS, I think you are probably one of the most radical feminists I have ever read on here!

SchrodingersMew · 28/05/2012 00:48

Moomins Me too! I only found out porn stars were hairless when the people telling me I was oppressed by porn told me! It seems they have seen more of it than me, yet it's me who is affected? Hmm

WorraLiberty · 28/05/2012 00:48

yellow really mate you are genuinely deluded if you think you can put all women who decide to shave their own body hair in one mental box.

If you think you can write a massive proportion of society off as doing something for the same reasons, when those people are telling you there are all sorts of different reasons then yes you are deluded.

I absolutely hand on heart agree with you that some women and men for that matter are socially conditioned to do all sorts of things...but please remember that not everyone is...the world does (thankfully) contain individuals who refuse to bow to pressure from other people.

Those other people also include feminists who try to coerce other women into being how they think they ought to be...in exactly the same way some men have tried to coerce them over the years.

Both are bang out of order and should just accept that some people know their own minds whether you agree with their choices or not.

Repression is always a bad thing whether it's men or women doing the repressing.

It's only a bit of fanny hair after all Grin

Morloth · 28/05/2012 00:49

Embrace your fur, I have, I like having furry legs and bits.

This also means I don't waste any time on continually removing it. I decided that was a mug's game years ago.

Hasn't made any difference whatsoever in my life, happily married, healthy, great job, attractive.

The thought of ingrown hairs on my fanjo is just eep.

SchrodingersMew · 28/05/2012 00:49

Worra I think you are keeping me sane(ish) tonight!

WorraLiberty · 28/05/2012 00:53

Well Schrod I'm taking me and my shaven haven to spend an hour with my DH who has just got in from work...and who doesn't give a shiny shite what I look like either down there or up top (thankfully) Grin

Night all x

Moominsarescary · 28/05/2012 00:54

Moominsarescary · 28/05/2012 00:55

Moominsarescary · 28/05/2012 00:56

Thats better

mathanxiety · 28/05/2012 01:04

Who would have even thought of it if it hadn't filtered through into pop culture via porn? (and btw the shaving of men started in gay porn).

FeedingTheBirds · 28/05/2012 01:17

Began reading this thread with genuine interest and lost genuine interest at around page 7 when it turned into a "do what I say or you're a porn apologist"/"do what I say or your a twat".

I will offer an alternative, i'll get the strimmer out tomorrow when I do the back lawn (wey hey!) £3.50 each and bring a can of cider. Deal?

FeedingTheBirds · 28/05/2012 01:18

Said genuine too much, but have a genuine strimmer Wink

FeedingTheBirds · 28/05/2012 01:18

Gin will do. But it goes up to £4.00 unless you bring tonic.

Empusa · 28/05/2012 01:26

It may be social conditioning that accounts for why so many do shave, and why some of those feel they have to. But it doesn't then follow that all people who shave do it because of social conditioning.

People have a variety of reasons, and there are logical thought processes that can lead to shaving down there.

For me personally there were two things which lead to it, and I'll grant you it started because of outside influence.

When I hit puberty I started shaving my legs and armpits, this was because of social conditioning. But here's where it breaks away, I discovered I liked the feeling of shaved legs, and as I'm a very tactile person I then moved on to shaving my arms (to get more of that sensation). I didn't know anyone who shaved their arms back then, and actually got some very strange reactions to it. If I was doing it because of what people thought I'd have stopped it right there. Grin From there I (logically) thought, "well if hair free legs and hair free arms feel nice, wouldn't hair free genitals also feel nice?"

Running concurrently to this was the fact that I got a lip piercing at the age of 18. This was due to outside influence because of being in the alt scene. From there I got a variety of other visible piercings. Which, of course, led on to hidden piercings. Including a genital piercing. To me it made sense to be hair free around the piercing to save me from things like getting hair caught!

So the two different thoughts led to me being hair free.

Not done because of what any men want. Not because of what is in porn (I hadn't seen any porn till after I started shaving/got pierced).

As you can see it's not beyond the realms of possibility that some people might have thought of shaving without it being due to conditioning. People are totally capable of independent thought.

Empusa · 28/05/2012 01:27

"Who would have even thought of it if it hadn't filtered through into pop culture via porn?"

See my previous post. It is totally possible to think of it without having seen it elsewhere.

theoldtrout01876 · 28/05/2012 01:50

after you shave rub area with hydrogen peroxide on a cotton ball, works every time for me :o

SchrodingersMew · 28/05/2012 04:10

Moomin No wine in this house just now. :( I think for this thread I would need something stronger though. :o

Empusa I'm also alt, hence the shaved eyebrows, I only grew them back because the thougt of post child birth pictures with my drawn on eyebrows sweated half way down my face terrified me. :o And yes, it also bloody feels nice to have nice soft, smooth skin down there and I like oral Blush 'tis not the most attractive when your partner has to come up to pull hairs from their mouth!

Thumbwitch · 28/05/2012 04:25

theoldtrout - I feel you might be pulling the leg a little! Grin If not, you have tougher skin than I do!

Debeezandbirds · 28/05/2012 07:25

Wow I'm glad I went to bed last night when I did, I've woken up to find out that one in four women in the UK is raped every year and that shaving your pubes is only good for ensuring you don't get crabs. Well neither of those is true so I doubt I've missed to much.

"Embrace your fur, I have, I like having furry legs and bits." Whoop de fucking do. Some people don't. If I ever come over to you and tell you to embrace your fur free fango now cos I like it you have permission to ban me from Mumsnet.

MiseryBusiness · 28/05/2012 08:40

Oh my days. I shave because it feels nicer and is more comfortable for me. There have been times when I haven't done it as regularly (when pg) and honestly, I didn't feel uncomfortable and didn't like it at all.

I shave/wax because I want to.

I've never been with a man, DH included that could actually give a fuck.

I'm sure there may be women that do it for a man or men whom expect women to be at least trim but that's not everyone.

This thread has made me Shock

Whatmeworry · 28/05/2012 08:55

Some parents are rubbish and fail to teach their children how to behave considerately

Bingo :)

IMO when its used to justify not having sex, you suspect the problem is not with the foof defuzzing itself.
