to think that 5ft 10 us not tall for a man

Sorry MIL one again but this really winds me up. She is forevever telling dd that she will be tall like her daddy and grandad. Dad is 5ft 10 and grandad about the same size. Fair enough I am short even for a lady but all the men in my family were over 6ft. Now thats tall.

Apparently the average bloke in the UK is 5'9" or 5'10" see wiki here depending on where in the UK.

I was the tallest in my family- 5'8". Taller than both my father and grandfather. I obviously come from a family of Welsh Jewish midgets.

So what, let her get on with it and you get a life while you're at it.

it seems my hubby is for his age (41, we have a 12 year age gap) but I dont think he is tall as majority of the men I dated before him were above 6ft and a one was 6ft 6, but it was an odd sight as I am 5ft 2.5.

As others have said, 5ft 10 is pretty average for a bloke, but please don't say it's short! My dh is only 5ft 3 - I think he'd be very upset! :o

No I don't think its short. I think its average. I'm only 5ft3

It's the type of comment my MIL would make. She always used to say how DD looked like her, when every man and his dog said DD looked like a mini-me.

I think it's just a MIL thing

I'm tall and like being tall, although I'm tall for my generation and fairly average for my children's generation. I'd say 5 10 is average for a bloke.
I'd ignore the daft woman. If you're 5 3 then she'll probably be about average height, not that it matters, she'll be whatever height she'll be. My parents were average height and we're all tall.

But then i'm 5ft and dh is 5ft 5 6 so only shortarses in this household.

My dad is in his 70s and when he was young, he was thought of as tall - he's 5 11. whereas now that's very average.

It is all relative. How tall is MIL? If she is 5'3" then 5'10" is tall comparatively.
