Hi,

Sorry to talk about another site, but I was confused thinking NM and MN were similar. I know now that NM is full of bright colours and pictures, and this one is blue. I've been on NM for 5 years and used to go there just to seek advice, and look for penfriends. The worst thing I did was drift off to their coffeehouse area. I wanted to get to know others a bit. I didn't think I did anything wrong at first until I posted. I discovered a massive clique of people who all agree with the same thing. They targetted me with online verbal. I wud come away from NM and let things cool, then go back again a month later.

I got bullied on NM by 50 of the members. I tried ignoring them and made lots of reports, pressing the Report button. Either admin did something or didn't. Because of this the admin started picking on me! I later found out they've had me monitored for some reason. I didn't do anything wrong. I was a bit scared when admin sent PM's harasing me for posting on their Lounge forum and daring to disagree with others. I was never rude or nasty.

One male poster on NM stalked me and tried to locate me elsewhere. A group of others threatened to kill me, ect. It was all really grubby. The worst thing I did again was go back! I returned 3 months later. This time the members might've forgot me but admin certainly didn't! They banned me from using their general forums. I asked them why and they didn't answer except tell me they were checking into my personal info, monitoring my activities, get this - not wanting me to use their report buttons and they didn't want me expressing an opinion.

I felt quite scared b/cos they have all my personal info, such as address, phone, real name, LO's name, my d/o/b/ and IP, ect. The admin (i mean all of them as they all signed it) sounded threatening and warned me off using their site again. I asked them what is it I've done wrong in the first place. No answer. I realised it was best to leave the site.

Later I found out one of the members who was quite nasty to me could be a TV celeb who also uses the site and her avatar looks like her. I didn't know this when I posted on it.

What I talked about on there getting into troble on NM? Saying I'm celibate and a single mum who doesn't need a man in my life. That was all

I think Mumsnet is so much more direct in it's confrontation than other forums that it's much healthier. I've never been on netmums but used to use the BBC parenting forum and that was scary. For all the strict anti-swearing guidelines I had some very unpleasant confrontations with individuals who seemed to delight in trying to destroy the other person and following them around other sections of the BBC boards. I got off lightly actually, some of the bullying was horrific. Mumsnet is just a helluva lot more honest and as a result so much less scary.

Think it was Jess something-or-other MrsD

BrianCoxhasSmellySox · 21/05/2012 19:54

at Vicky - I'm an ex Beeber (not one of the kind you describe though)

I was a prolific ie had too much to say and far too much spare time on my hands poster over there 2004-2009ish. I don't have much bad to say about it, other than yes the 'usual' stuff went on there as does on any other forum. It was a good forum, is very quiet these days - is a shame, but is so heavily moderated it's not a surprise when you can come here and shout expletives left, right and centre Wink

RubberBandit · 21/05/2012 19:56

Actually, it was Jess08990.

D'oh...Jess080990 (sticky 0 key...looks like apricot jam but could equally be dog drool)

manicbmc · 21/05/2012 20:06

I used to go on the channel 4 big brother forums years and years ago, until they stopped it because so many of us disagreed with 'the management' about how they were fixing and rigging stuff. It was quite a laugh though.

Tangointhenight · 21/05/2012 20:19

I went over there, just to look and it was awful...my eyeeeeeeeeeeesssssssssss !!!!!!!

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 21/05/2012 20:25

I thought so.
I think she may be at it again but I dont want to send a load of people over to a poor young frightened girl's thread on the off chance.

I will just keep an eye on it.

FartBlossom · 21/05/2012 20:39

BrianCox I was on the beeb boards from 2004 till about 08 too

Jess was everywhere wasnt she? It was deleted as she had different threads on different sites with different outcomes IIRC

FartBlossom · 21/05/2012 20:42

I used to be a regular on NM's and it was a lifesaver for me for a while. There are/were lots of really kind and supportive posters, particularly on some of the Boards (was to Mrs D, although she won't remember me Smile)

I think it went downhill after a while, and I also got completely sick of the sparkles. Have had a peek a few months ago, and wouldn't recognise the place.

takingiteasy · 21/05/2012 21:00

I am an occasional used to be a Netmummer, I even had a ticker!

Anyway, I think my honesty is better of here than there, I did get warnings for not being nice enough. Well that's not what they said but that's pretty much all I ever done wrong!

Anyway, with regards to the OP's story, I call BS. I was very active on there for about 2 years, surely I'm not dim enough to miss this?

anniemcphee · 21/05/2012 21:00

(wonders why bounty thread got deleted and not this? :( )

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 21/05/2012 21:01

I used to be on Babyworld when it had the live chat room....is there anyone else that old who remembers that?

BelieveInPink · 21/05/2012 21:01

Err, why is this here and the other (very well spirited and happy) has been deleted?

I just lost a wee bit of respect for MN.
