Hi,

Sorry to talk about another site, but I was confused thinking NM and MN were similar. I know now that NM is full of bright colours and pictures, and this one is blue. I've been on NM for 5 years and used to go there just to seek advice, and look for penfriends. The worst thing I did was drift off to their coffeehouse area. I wanted to get to know others a bit. I didn't think I did anything wrong at first until I posted. I discovered a massive clique of people who all agree with the same thing. They targetted me with online verbal. I wud come away from NM and let things cool, then go back again a month later.

I got bullied on NM by 50 of the members. I tried ignoring them and made lots of reports, pressing the Report button. Either admin did something or didn't. Because of this the admin started picking on me! I later found out they've had me monitored for some reason. I didn't do anything wrong. I was a bit scared when admin sent PM's harasing me for posting on their Lounge forum and daring to disagree with others. I was never rude or nasty.

One male poster on NM stalked me and tried to locate me elsewhere. A group of others threatened to kill me, ect. It was all really grubby. The worst thing I did again was go back! I returned 3 months later. This time the members might've forgot me but admin certainly didn't! They banned me from using their general forums. I asked them why and they didn't answer except tell me they were checking into my personal info, monitoring my activities, get this - not wanting me to use their report buttons and they didn't want me expressing an opinion.

I felt quite scared b/cos they have all my personal info, such as address, phone, real name, LO's name, my d/o/b/ and IP, ect. The admin (i mean all of them as they all signed it) sounded threatening and warned me off using their site again. I asked them what is it I've done wrong in the first place. No answer. I realised it was best to leave the site.

Later I found out one of the members who was quite nasty to me could be a TV celeb who also uses the site and her avatar looks like her. I didn't know this when I posted on it.

What I talked about on there getting into troble on NM? Saying I'm celibate and a single mum who doesn't need a man in my life. That was all

OP posts:
thatisall · 21/05/2012 17:32

CaptainHetty they are certainly talking about sex and strap ons and the like.

I'm still looking for the brain bleach SPFanjo

TheProvincialLady · 21/05/2012 17:33

If 50 online people were stalking and monitoring me, making death threats and bullying me I doubt I'd go on another forum and start posting in a deliberately confrontational and open way about it. I'd probably keep my head down and use a different forum without making a massive fuss about myself, and I expect I'd call the police too.

CaptainHetty · 21/05/2012 17:34

Well I'm enraged, I got a warning for discussing lesbian sex Hmm

:o

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 21/05/2012 17:35

it would not allow me to type 'the chemicals used to retard fire

I think the reason people are getting so uppity about the NM bashing is because what tends to happen on this kind of post is that everyone joins in, slates NM, somehow NM find out, we then get infiltrated by the NM masses in disguise. The same works in reverse, NM slag us lot off, we find out, some MNers decide to go and have fun/create havoc over there.

It all gets silly, then nasty, then just plain bloody boring.

Luckily, that seems to be a thing of the past - hasn't happened for a while to my knowledge anyway we were too busy being infiltrated by F4J

So, OP, if you are utterly blameless and didn't do a thing to cause this - how awful for you.

I'm afraid certain comments you do make are utterly bizarre though - the famous person being a member is just.....odd.

manicbmc · 21/05/2012 17:36

A panty raid! Grin

thatisall · 21/05/2012 17:38

Captain get over there!! Your time is now! haha

Pandemoniaa · 21/05/2012 17:38

I've never managed to get past the psychedelic attack on my eyesight that the site induces in order to post anything that might test their trigger-happy ban button.

But I do agree that (a) it's bad form to come onto another forum and dish personal shit. We don't know whether you are a blameless innocent or a wily stirrer of internet cauldrons. In many respects, many of us may not care.

If you've genuinely received death threats then tell the police. Not us.

Pandemoniaa · 21/05/2012 17:39

Fuck. I forgot the (b). I blame it on another quick visit to nethuns. I am now terminally confused.

watermargin · 21/05/2012 17:43

I also think that there is more to this story, but I have to say I was once a member of a private forum which started when we "branched out" from another, bigger forum. All was well to start with but I managed to really upset somebody by phrasing something clumsily (it wasn't THAT bad, I swear! Grin)

I had the most horrible texts, emails and so forth for weeks after that, from a very small minority of women on there - one of whom told me I had mental health issues and needed to be sectioned. It was really strange, and I know my real name, address and even where I worked was published on the board. It was really frightening and upsetting and I actually ended up seeing my GP and being prescribed medication to help with anxiety following it. This is all going back around twelve months, but when I did contact the police they were no help at all - if they'd even been sympathetic I wouldn't have minded but they were quite cold and said "what do you expect us to do?" Argghh!

I'm fine with it now (although I do sporadically check my old email address for nasty messages) but I imagine they must have found something else to talk about.

Online life can be strange. I've only just really started to use forums again but I never engage in friendships from them, which is a pity.

Hattie23 · 21/05/2012 17:46

I've learnt what a fanjo is on MN so think I'll stay here.
I also found these Biscuit Biscuit and some of this Wine behind the door - so I'm settled.

OliviaLMumsnet · 21/05/2012 17:47

@CaptainHetty

I got a lifetime ban for 'questioning a moderator's decision' :o)
StickyProblem · 21/05/2012 17:50

This thread is like going into Marks and Spencers and saying Debenhams is crap.

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 21/05/2012 17:57

Are you sure that box should be blue Olivia? I think you 'moderators' should have black boxes

manicbmc · 21/05/2012 17:58

I do that all the time. Every single time I go in there - 'ooooh that Debenhams is so crappy' as loud as I can Grin

Pandemoniaa · 21/05/2012 18:00

Grin @ I think you 'moderators' should have black boxes.

MrsMuddyPuddles · 21/05/2012 18:03

Ooooh! Black and grey, perhaps, instead of blue and light blue grey? lavender? what colour is that inner box? :o

TheresaMayHaveaBiscuit · 21/05/2012 18:05

Not only is NM very, umm, brightly coloured, last time I went there they appeared to be using comic sans which is, frankly, unforgivable.

Jins · 21/05/2012 18:08

I've never been to netmums so can't comment. The last thing I need is a parenting website - I'm only here for the swearing.

However since I've been using the internet socially I have found that even the nicest people can turn into absolute horrors when given a keyboard. Forums (fora???) are notorious for cliques and bullies and just general unpleasantness. It goes with the territory.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 21/05/2012 18:10

Ahem

I am a long term member of NM and I can confirm that it is mental.

People use the PM facility for all kind of nastiness.

I wouldnt be at all suprised about the death threats.

And the standard telling off emails from the mods have a threatening undercurrent. They forbid you to share anything from the email with anyone in the universe but do not say what will happen if you do (I asked them).

I C&P mine on here Grin

I dont know why people think NM is nice. Its a bloody swirling pool of passive agressive rage.

A bit stepford wivesy. All sparkles and huns if you fit in but gawd help you if you dont agree that immigrants eat babies. If you think wearing pjs to asda is a bit ming you obviously think you are a 'perfect mommy'.

There are some lovely posters on there but my gosh do they have to fight their corner. There is currently a rash of Goat comments and its pissing the mods of mightly (tee hee)

confusedpixie · 21/05/2012 18:11

at comic sans being unforgivable. It really is! That and the Joker font.

I seem to get enquiries for work from NM so I don't think it's the work of the devil, but the forums do drive me mad, I hate text speak with a passion. I also do believe what the OP has said can happen, I've had similar on a smaller scale from forums in the past!

OliviaLMumsnet · 21/05/2012 18:11
Grin
manicbmc · 21/05/2012 18:16

Comic sans! Comic sans! That really is unforgivable for anyone who doesn't work in a primary school. And even then it's a bit Hmm

oldraver · 21/05/2012 18:20

I got a warning for calling the resident (on lone parents) drama queen.......well a drama queen, I was told it wasnt 'supportive'

Hattie23 · 21/05/2012 18:22

Bugger! I quite like Comic Sans Hmm
