Netmums, not meaning to moan here....

Hi,

Sorry to talk about another site, but I was confused thinking NM and MN were similar. I know now that NM is full of bright colours and pictures, and this one is blue. I've been on NM for 5 years and used to go there just to seek advice, and look for penfriends. The worst thing I did was drift off to their coffeehouse area. I wanted to get to know others a bit. I didn't think I did anything wrong at first until I posted. I discovered a massive clique of people who all agree with the same thing. They targetted me with online verbal. I wud come away from NM and let things cool, then go back again a month later.

I got bullied on NM by 50 of the members. I tried ignoring them and made lots of reports, pressing the Report button. Either admin did something or didn't. Because of this the admin started picking on me! I later found out they've had me monitored for some reason. I didn't do anything wrong. I was a bit scared when admin sent PM's harasing me for posting on their Lounge forum and daring to disagree with others. I was never rude or nasty.

One male poster on NM stalked me and tried to locate me elsewhere. A group of others threatened to kill me, ect. It was all really grubby. The worst thing I did again was go back! I returned 3 months later. This time the members might've forgot me but admin certainly didn't! They banned me from using their general forums. I asked them why and they didn't answer except tell me they were checking into my personal info, monitoring my activities, get this - not wanting me to use their report buttons and they didn't want me expressing an opinion.

I felt quite scared b/cos they have all my personal info, such as address, phone, real name, LO's name, my d/o/b/ and IP, ect. The admin (i mean all of them as they all signed it) sounded threatening and warned me off using their site again. I asked them what is it I've done wrong in the first place. No answer. I realised it was best to leave the site.

Later I found out one of the members who was quite nasty to me could be a TV celeb who also uses the site and her avatar looks like her. I didn't know this when I posted on it.

What I talked about on there getting into troble on NM? Saying I'm celibate and a single mum who doesn't need a man in my life. That was all

thatisall hand over the brain bleach Grin

Under the fluffiness its a dark place

Safmellow · 21/05/2012 17:06

I would just stay away from there if you have had a bad experience. Also try never to put personal info on any forum. NM is all glitter and pink but there as with anywhere there are nasties! Hope you fare better on here.

GnocchiNineDoors · 21/05/2012 17:07

Good to hear you've abandoned the ticker-tape parade Grin

ScrambledSmegs · 21/05/2012 17:08

Sorry to hear you've had a bad experience. However, I do feel that it isn't great form to vent about another forum on here. I may just be old-fashioned though.

I hope you can have a fresh start at Mumsnet and settle in happily. Welcome Smile

(That was a nice smiley, btw, not a PA one)

Not wanting to stick up for Nethuns but - really? All of that really happened, and you did absolutely nothing to warrant it?

I can believe the clique thing and the bitchiness, it happens on most forums. But the mods ganging up on you? 50 odd members starting on you. Death threats? Then you went back.

Then you leave and your first post here is a Nethun bashing thread?

Really?

sue52 · 21/05/2012 17:14

It all sounds most odd. I have looked at Netmums but the lurid colours and the text speak put me off.

thatisall · 21/05/2012 17:15

Their spelling upsets my karma.

Shutupanddrive · 21/05/2012 17:15

I find it hard to believe that you did nothing at all wrong Hmm

sparkle12mar08 · 21/05/2012 17:16

Why on earth did you put your real information into their system though?! Everyone surely knows that you don't do that on internet forums...

CanISawItOff · 21/05/2012 17:16

To be fair if people were threatening to kill me and they had all my details I'd be off to the police no matter how they knew/know me and with the web you have the benefit of screenshots to back you up.

The police take internet bullying/trolling very seriously these days.

glenthebattleostrich · 21/05/2012 17:17

I was banned for trying to swear. I expressed an opinion, forget what the thread was about now, something about in laws I think and it was all 'ignore them hun, u sound g8' and stuff and I also asked people to write in English.

The mods decided I was a bully and banned me. To be fair, I was on my second warning for swearing (think the first one was for trying to use biatch instead of bitch!)

It's much better here, lots of lovely people and you can say fuck Grin

AllYoursBabooshka · 21/05/2012 17:21

They ban you for swearing?! Shock

porcamiseria · 21/05/2012 17:22

they made DEATH THREATS??? really??

gawd.....

CaptainHetty · 21/05/2012 17:24

Yes! There's a swear filter. And heaven forbid you should try and bypass it Angry

You also can't mention sex. Minors might read it, don't you know.

Frontpaw · 21/05/2012 17:24

If I got banned for swearing everywhere - would go nowhere!

manicbmc · 21/05/2012 17:25

You can't swear? What the actual fuck? Shock

MrsMuddyPuddles · 21/05/2012 17:25

Er, this isn't her first post here, BrianCox

BrianCoxhasSmellySox · 21/05/2012 17:25

My bad, assumed it was an introductory post.

TiggyD · 21/05/2012 17:25

Call the police if they threatened to kill you. If you don't, I can't believe you.

HandMadeTail · 21/05/2012 17:26

Moaning about netmums on here is not the right thing to do, IMHO. I'm sure you could take it up with netmums, if you feel you have been treated unfairly, or if you are concerned for your safety, contact the police.

BTW, quite a few people on mumsnet are also on netmums, I understand, so you may be offending people if you come on here moaning about netmums.

AllYoursBabooshka · 21/05/2012 17:28

In all fairness she can post whatever she likes about her experiences with NMs.

RandomNumbers · 21/05/2012 17:30

Death threats, goodness me

What did the police advise ?

MrsMuddyPuddles · 21/05/2012 17:30

no worries, Brian Cox some of this sounded familiar so I checked, then felt pedantic

TiggyD has a good point re the police...

Safmellow · 21/05/2012 17:31

Ha ha, that reminds me, I once tried to post on a NM thread about cot death/mattress wrapping, and it would not allow me to type 'the chemicals used to retard fire' :)
