for wanting people to follow the rules

i am really annoyed with this. i moved from my last home for my neighbours parking their vehicles in our spaces and it got really nasty. we have since moved to a new development where there are set rules about what you can and cant do re: parking and vehicke types its ones of the reasons i bought the house. My new neighbours are basically flouting them even though they have been warned by the developer.

aibu to expect for people follow the rules that are set, and not take the piss.

its been handed to the solicitors now i hope this can be resolved ir ill be moving again.

the vans are big ugly horrid things i dont want to look at.

No one would think of breaking the parking rule here, and if you did you'd be fined pronto. At first the rules annoyed me, but it is actually very nice that everyone does pretty much what they're supposed to.

"the vans are big ugly horrid things i dont want to look at."

So's my ex-stepmother but I have yet to consult a solicitor over her.

ScarlettAlexandra · 21/05/2012 16:55

I'm not a naturally bitchy person bronze i really don't remember what i said. i don't mean to offend anyone.

Please don't take this the wrong way but I feel a distinct incontinence coming on.

Posterofapombear · 21/05/2012 16:57

Why is it any worse than a car of the same size in terms of having to look at it?

You must have to much time on your hands to go to such lengths over someone's work vehicle!

roadkillbunny · 21/05/2012 16:58

YABU and I think it may just be that you are a snob. Why bring up that they are affordable part rent, part buy homes? They also probably didn't have much choice about buying that house, I know when a friend of mine got her affordable house home that it was a case of like it or lump it and had they lumped it they wouldn't have been offered anything else in the affordable housing scheme as there is such a demand for them.
Saying that you do have a point that the rules are the rules, my next door neighbour parks his mobile home in the area in front of our houses that according to the deeds should not be used for parking except by me however the realities are that it is technically public highway so would take a great deal of grief to sort out, he is careful to ensure we can still get our car in and that he doesn't block our light. There is also a cravat on all the houses in our close against satellite dishes, we have one both front and back as it happens and lots of others on the close do as well as cable is not available in the village so not a great deal of options if you want more then freeview, one of my other neighbours has a much bigger dish as his wife is from a different country and likes to be able to get her home country TV.
When we looked into getting a dish when we moves here (unaware there was one already on the back) we were told that having one wasn't a problem but if even one resident complained about the dishes being up then we would all have to take them down and comply with the cravat. You would be that person wouldn't you OP? It is a small village, we are all neighbours and we want to get on so we make compromises with each other to allow us all to enjoy our homes and live together as a community. There will always be something someone does that annoys you, some of those things make break the rules but not the law and you just have to balance and make compromises where you can.
There is a lovely atmosphere on our close, we all look out for each other and care about each other. I am glad you don't live here as you would kill that very, very quickly. I think for your neighbours sake, who can't just move like you seem to be able to do, you should just sell up and move somewhere where you have your own drive and you don't overlook anything other then your own garden so you have the control.

BadNails · 21/05/2012 17:02

I'm sorry roadkillbunny but 'cravat on all the houses' made me Grin

Sparklingbrook · 21/05/2012 17:03

So the upshot is Scarlett that you are being unreasonable for expecting people to follow rules. Apparently.

I wish you luck, but don't want to post any more in case i get accused of anything. We are clearly in the minority. Sad

ScarlettAlexandra · 21/05/2012 17:04

the dish doesn't bother me as much. i said about it being affordable housing because i thought they might have different rules but they don't.

People walking on the right when the sign says 'keep left'.

People using phones when there are signs saying 'switch off moblie phones'.

People taking pictures when the rules are 'no flash photography'.

People sitting on the grass when the signs clearly say 'keep off the grass'

I try to relax, but it annoys me! Even if it doesn't directly affect me.

I feel your pain OP.

SarahStratton · 21/05/2012 17:06

KL? Hah you'll have fun there.

ScarlettAlexandra · 21/05/2012 17:12

what is that meant to mean?

anything you want to share?

OP posts:
WenTheEternallySurprised · 21/05/2012 17:13

KL? Kuala Lumpur?

Which, according to Wiki, is "among the fastest growing metropolitan regions in the country".

It sounds like you'll be in your element OP.

WenTheEternallySurprised · 21/05/2012 17:14

"what is that meant to mean?
anything you want to share?"

Like a parking space, Stratters? Grin

roadkillbunny · 21/05/2012 17:15

BadNails now I have wonderful images in my head, this is what comes of not being able to see very well, only looking for the words a spell check bring up and just being rubbish with spelling but at least it now gives me the image of all our houses being the most spiffing and smart around :D

Sorry OP, I remember you too well from the P&C parking space thread.
YABU and quite ridiculous. Maybe you need to live on a island by yourself?

ScarlettAlexandra · 21/05/2012 17:24

maybe people should just follow the rules set for everything in life, no one would be offended then.

OP posts:
VivaLeBeaver · 21/05/2012 17:28

Omg, sorry but you sound like the neighbour from hell.

There's an estate near me which has the same rules. Widely ignored and nobody was bothered. Someone moved in and was bothered and moaned to the developers. Problem is the estate is 10 years old now and the developers don't give a shit. Don't know how true it is but I've been told that the rules can't be enforced, they're not breaking the law. Only the developer can attempt to enforce it but if the "offending" house put their case for having a van to a court under the human rights act, etc the chances are they will win.

My neighbour opposite parks a huge box van outside my house, about 3x the size of a transporter. It's a 20 min parking slot and he leaves it for hours, sometimes days. I've never reported him.....life is too short to get wound up about such trivia.
