for wanting people to follow the rules

i am really annoyed with this. i moved from my last home for my neighbours parking their vehicles in our spaces and it got really nasty. we have since moved to a new development where there are set rules about what you can and cant do re: parking and vehicke types its ones of the reasons i bought the house. My new neighbours are basically flouting them even though they have been warned by the developer.

aibu to expect for people follow the rules that are set, and not take the piss.

its been handed to the solicitors now i hope this can be resolved ir ill be moving again.

ScarlettAlexandra · 21/05/2012 16:35

So where do you stand on a Mercedes-Benz V-Class, Hyundai i800 or a Citroen Dispatch Combi as examples?

Sirzy · 21/05/2012 16:38

How about answering my other question?

Sparklingbrook · 21/05/2012 16:39

One of the reasons OP bought the house was the rules about not having vans in the car park if I am reading this correctly.

Olympia2012 · 21/05/2012 16:39

I haven't seen parking rules here, but we have car parks accessible through 'coach house' archway, so no vans can fit

The parking bays are clearly marked 'v' on developer plans.... 2 are directly outside my front windows. These are for everyone, but I would worry if vans were parked permanently!

bronze · 21/05/2012 16:40

Would you complain about a caravelle?

SarahStratton · 21/05/2012 16:40

OMFG a sky dish

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 21/05/2012 16:40

Sirzy - let's hope OP is never in the siutation hey where her DP needs to use a van for work then - they will have to move yet again! Circumstances change but hey, it's someone elses problem!

Mad as a box load of frogs.........

Sparklingbrook · 21/05/2012 16:42

No Olympia that's absolutely fine apparently, if that happened you just shouldn't look out of your window, then the problem is solved. Easy. Confused

WenTheEternallySurprised · 21/05/2012 16:44

Let's get this right.

You moved house essentially over someone parking in your space?

You live on a development where one cannot own and park a van or large work vehicle, effectively debarring the hoi polloi working class man or woman who happens to need a such a vehicle earn an honest living?

You have got a solicitor involved about someone parking a van in a car park?

Please tell me I've got that all wrong.

ScarlettAlexandra · 21/05/2012 16:44

if they changed job needing a van, they would have to park it else where. that's not my problem is it sirzy.

your right sparkling i would not have moved if i new about the vans.

no caravans either at all.

big cars are ok bronze mines not the smallest. that's not the point they are allowed.

IAmNotACowbag · 21/05/2012 16:45

I didn't even know you could have housing with parking rules. You live and learn eh?

YANBU - the rules are there for everyone not for people to pick and choose as they wish. It's the principle as much as having to look at a minging van!

SarahStratton · 21/05/2012 16:45

So, will you be mooving soon OP? Grin

WenTheEternallySurprised · 21/05/2012 16:46

Ugh! Correction - "from earning an honest living". Sorry about the typo, it's the shock that did it.

bronze · 21/05/2012 16:47

But a few of th eones I mentioned are basically vans with seats. Theyre based on the same chassis and engine and everything. If they painted what looked like blacked out windows on the side of their van would that make it better?

ScarlettAlexandra · 21/05/2012 16:48

no that's right wen. still to the funds thats all i ask.

my previous neighbours had their own private parking but close to use mine all the time. on my own private land.

as i said lots if research and in still getting people with disregard for others.

Sirzy · 21/05/2012 16:48

What's the difference between having to look at a big car and having to look at a van?

BadNails · 21/05/2012 16:48

Ok, so being a sahp may mean that you see far too much of the thing which annoys you. You're already doing something about it by contacting your solicitor, so unless you are planning on speaking to your neighbours directly, I would (and I mean this in the nicest way possible) get over it.

You can't physically move these things yourself, you can't change the view from your living room window and you've done the extreme thing, imo, by not attempting to deal with it directly.

What you can change, however, is your attitude towards it and how you can deal with it from here on until your solicitors achieve something. I believe unfortunately, that you like to complain and you won't see that part of the problem is you.

I will put money on this being resolved and you'll move onto something else. You will stew over that and seek justification on this or another forum or a like minded friend for the way you feel.

I wish you all the best OP.

mockingjay · 21/05/2012 16:49

Scarlett, you should move to Switzerland. It would suit you here Grin

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 21/05/2012 16:49

because at least OP can moan about a van and be "in the right"......some people just love to moan, mainly those that have nothing else going on in their lives!

Sparklingbrook · 21/05/2012 16:50

The difference sirzyis that the rules say cars are allowed but vans aren't.

ScarlettAlexandra · 21/05/2012 16:50

hopefully funny enough stratters to KL for two years in a flat keeping my home here though and will be returning regularly.
