I have kept quiet over the last few months not from any wish to be mysterious but because feck all has happened.

Well I say nothing has happened, the neighbours are now living in the bungalow and their house is occupied by a bewildering array of people. They are fairly quiet in the house but do many annoying things outside including talking on mobiles early in the morning and late at night and having sex in cars.

Anyway, got a letter from planning today telling me that planning permission for the mahoooosive fence they put up after they did all the annoying, noisy and intrusive building work, (the bastards) has been REFUSED.

Yes REFUSED! This is in no small part to the amazing letter written for me by MrsMarjoribanks. I can just picture their faces when they received it, their bemused looks as they tried to marry up the vision of ME with the letter in front of them Grin

So the fecking feckers have to take down their ugly fecking 10 foot fence.
I hope they dont, I hope they continue to think they can get away with anything they like, thus drawing more attention to themselves and getting their just desserts. SO NER!

charmingly thanks for that article. That is my neighbouring borough and they have their own task force. Mine has feck all.
I am always a bit depressed by the comments on these articles. There is never any thought given to the neighbours. A lot of stuff about the poor people living in the sheds (and I agree with this in many cases though not mine - apart from their children) and even stuff about how landlords are only providing a service.

I am really the least NIMBYish person you could think off normally having people virtually living in your back garden is properly unpleasant.

The background is, IIRC, that the building in the garden is allowed under the area's 'permitted development' BUT that does not include building a dwelling for actual human habitation (sleeping), it just includes big sheds, gyms, saunas, that kind of thing.

But these beggers built it and live in it. Then they put a massive fence up to hide the fact that they were living in it.

LineRunner · 21/05/2012 13:59

MrsDeV, I hope I vaguely remembered some of that correctly? The whole thing has a faintly dream-like quality to it.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 21/05/2012 14:04

Tis true.
They put in a permitted development notice for a largish oblong one room structure.

They built that, presumably waited for it to be signed off and then put down some more foundations and DOUBLED the size of it. They added a bathroom and a conservatory thingy.

They even added an extra plastic- kit shed to proved storage. This is right infront of the bungalow and is supposed to make it invisable, along with the garden swing seat next to it.

Weirdly (I must have xray vision) I can STILL see the bungalow Shock

I always suspected the family would move in because the house is a bit of a dump and it didnt make sense for them to spend ££££££££ on a shed and rent it out to one person (it has double glazing and central heating).

Lo and behold Hmm

Gits.

Brilliant news.

Lambzig · 21/05/2012 14:24

Really good news, so pleased for you. What will happen if they dont take it down?

Jins · 21/05/2012 14:24

Fab news MrsD. It was a fun thread...

Now. On to the bungalow.

They built it as a gym, ie incidental to the enjoyment of the dwelling house and not a dwelling in its own right. It therefore cannot be occupied.

Enforcement will be interested and I'm sure they'd love some photographs of the people shagging in the car

Onwards and upwards. We'll get this back to green fields soon

Jins · 21/05/2012 14:26

They also need planning permission for a house in multiple occupation.

Just saying :)

MsRinky · 21/05/2012 14:27

And obviously, any rental income is taxable, so the tax office must know about it, right ?

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 21/05/2012 14:56

That was my next step. I was kinda hoping for a cascade of unpleasant intervention (meany).

Tabliope · 21/05/2012 15:02

Was just about to suggest calling the inland revenue. Glad they've to take the fence down

empirestateofmind · 21/05/2012 15:02

Great news Mrs D, I hope they have a stream of people checking the drainage, building regs, tax, multiple occupancy laws etc and that the fence comes down soon.

JamieandTheMagicTorch · 21/05/2012 15:07

I am glad that you are glad MrsDV, because I know the fence was a big deal for you but cannot get over the irony of the fact that a fence is what's got them into trouble at this stage.

janinlondon · 21/05/2012 15:23

But will they actually take the fence down MrsDV? We have loads of conversions in our borough - every one of them refused permission. Made no difference to them at all.......I think you may need to invest in a flamethrower.....

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 21/05/2012 15:26

I doubt they will take much notice jan. They seem to think they can do what they like.
But they will be breaking some sort of law thingy if they dont so at least there should be some sanctions.

I will be following it up.

OP posts:
janinlondon · 21/05/2012 15:28

I am just checking for flamethrowers on ebay for you now.......

Jins · 21/05/2012 15:30

Leave it to the enforcement team. They will undoubtedly notice that the gym is in occupation when they come to enforce the fence.

CinnabarRed · 21/05/2012 15:39

HMRC's tax evasion reporting form is linked <a class="break-all" href="https://online.hmrc.gov.uk/shortforms/form/TEH_Report?dept-name=TEH&sub-dept-name=&location=39&origin=www.hmrc.gov.uk" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">here. Just saying.

Jins · 21/05/2012 15:41

Border Agency

May as well have a selection

MissTapestry · 21/05/2012 15:43

Woohoo! That thread was the reason I joined MN, so I could gawp at the pics of the backyard mansion! so it's your fault my life has been taken over by p&c spaces, blue badges, soft play, poo trolls etc GrinWink

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 21/05/2012 15:45

Just had an email.
It says they asked the 'agent to submit new plans' i.e. cutting the fence down a bit and changing the appearance.
They didnt submit any plans so now they have to take the whole thing down.

I bet the 'agent' as long gone once he persuaded them that it was all fine and there was nothing anyone could do.
