Seems that Blair is planning a return to UK politics.

And Cameron will be hated more than her.

I think you may be right about that. He's building up quite a disgruntled constituency.

Thatcher.
Cameron is very unpopular but more for being a fool she knew exactly what she was doing.

Dawndonna · 20/05/2012 22:04

The Lady wasn't for turning.
Bloody good job Nikita Kruschev didn't operate in the same way. Cuba would have been a site more than a crisis.

NotGeoffVader · 20/05/2012 22:04

Personally, Blair.

Thatcher was bad but at least she did what she said she would do. Blair on the other hand, changed his mind like the weather, and reneged on god knows how many promises.

Just don't get me started on the bunch of idiots we currently have.

Glitterknickaz · 20/05/2012 22:08

Camoron.
He's worse than Thatcher and that's saying something.
I intensely dislike Blair too.

So.... errrr all three?

Well, as a foreigner, I think britain improved a lot in the Blair yrs. Iraq, otoh, is unforgivable.

ilovesooty · 20/05/2012 22:20

By me? Thatcher, by far. I think she did a lot more damage.

Yellowtip · 20/05/2012 22:21

Thatcher.

PoppyWearer · 20/05/2012 22:21

For me, Thatcher.

For DH, Blair.

As usual, we cancel out each others' votes!

flatpackhamster · 20/05/2012 22:22

Blair, although you'd have to step outside the bubble the chattering classes imposed around themselves to realise it, and to realise how popular Margaret Thatcher still is 20 years on.

ilovesooty · 20/05/2012 22:25

West yorkshire 80s child. What Thatcher did to our communities was absolutely indescribable. Hundreds of northern towns and villages have still not recovered. I don't think anyone who had seen that first hand would say Blair

Agreed. I'd spit on her grave.

ComposHat · 20/05/2012 22:29

I'm wondering if there's an age divide in the replies here!

And/or a North/South divide.

I grew up in what was then a mining area in the 1980s so you can guess my answer would be. Whereas my partner who grew up in the home counties struggles to understand my vehement hatred of Thatcher.

I already have a Shepard's Pie and Champagne celebratory party (like the ones she used to have round Jeffrey Archer's gaff) for the glorious day when she snuffs it.

Mayisout · 20/05/2012 22:29

Blair.

People forget (or weren't around) when Thatcher came into office. The country was in a right state. Dockers striking so shortages of everything, rolling power cuts. Not good.

JosephineCD · 20/05/2012 22:30

Thatcher was a great PM. She did what had to be done and did not shy away from doing it. Blair was just an evil snake-oil saleman that told people what they wanted to hear and did what he wanted, despite the catestrophic consequences for Britain.

Mining and manufacturing suffered because they were run terribly, had been for decades, and couldn't continue to be subsidised forever. IMO it's similar to things at the moment with benefits. However much people wish for things to continue as they did under Labour, they can't, because the money simply isn't there.

PoppyWearer · 20/05/2012 22:37

I'm a rural Southerner. Hate Thatcher.

pixwix · 20/05/2012 22:39

Thatcher - hth!

And compos - can I come? :o

Jux · 20/05/2012 22:42

I said Blair upthread, but actually I don't think we would have had Blair if we hadn't had Thatcher. Blair is truly Thatcher's Bastard Child. He's more Tory than Cameron.

I still hate B.Liar more though, simply because he pretended to be socialist and then dismantled the party fingernail by fingernail. Now they're all Tories.

I will mourn John Smith to my dying day.

ModreB · 20/05/2012 22:42

Having lived through the rhetoric and regimes of both of them, both times with a young family.

Thatcher.

By more than a mile. I will gladly dance on her grave. With tap shoes on.

WetAugust · 20/05/2012 22:46

Me too. I often watch his daughter on Channel 4 news and wonder how differently things may have turned out. Very sad that he died.

LadyBeagleEyes · 20/05/2012 22:46

John Smith would have been an amazing PM.
Isn't it said that he was the best PM we never had?

ljgibbs · 20/05/2012 22:46

No contest, Thatcher and I'll be hanging out the flags (at full mast) and having a party when she dies.

WetAugust · 20/05/2012 22:47

I think they actually say that about Denis Healy Confused

OP posts:
JosephineCD · 20/05/2012 22:47

I wonder what people think Labour would have done if they were in power in the 80s? Would the mines and factories still be open today?
