Seems that Blair is planning a return to UK politics.

chris many people don't have the choice - we buy 'cheap crap clothing' because we can't afford anything else

pushmepullyou · 20/05/2012 20:59

West yorkshire 80s child. What Thatcher did to our communities was absolutely indescribable. Hundreds of northern towns and villages have still not recovered. I don't think anyone who had seen that first hand would say Blair.

startail · 20/05/2012 20:59

Blair because he lied and lied and spun.

Whatever your opinion of her policies, Mrs Thatcher didn't just shift her position to suit the PR gurus!

ChrisPeacock · 20/05/2012 21:01

Max
Quality clothing lasts years
But we dont want to wear outdated old fashioned clothing do we
we want to buy new clothes every year to keep up with the latest fashion

VolkswagenBeetle · 20/05/2012 21:02

Thatcher, by far, she completely changed this country and not for the better.

I personally hate Blair a lot more than Thatcher. I think it is possibly down to my age though. I was a child when Mrs T was in power and couldn't grasp the realities of life under her administration. Blair otoh, well, I have to live with the consequences of his policies every day as an adult and can see and understand for myself just how he fucked this country over to feather his own nest and further his own delusions of grandeur and statesmanship. Real Labour supporters like my Granda, who accompanied his father on the Jarrow March, would turn in their graves if they knew what Tony Blair did in the name of the Labour Party :(

Gumby · 20/05/2012 21:03

How did she decimate northern villages/ communities?
Was it closing down the mines?

FreudianSlipper · 20/05/2012 21:04

but chris if she had not ruined manufacturing we could still produce cheapish clothes here, not as cheap but we woudl have more money to spend as there woudl be more people working, more money for people to spend and we could create competition

thenightsky · 20/05/2012 21:05

Thatcher by a million miles. I wonder if today's Torys are even slightly aware of how much they are hated in Yorkshire due soley to Maggie's actions.

SodoffBaldrick · 20/05/2012 21:05

I can't believe anyone would say Blair. Don't get me wrong, I abandoned the Labour party after Iraq, but he wishes he was in Thatcher's league.

I hate myself though, for warming to her slightly after watching The Iron Lady. Grin Easily moved, it would seem.

Thatcher by a country mile.

CurrySpice · 20/05/2012 21:07

Thatcher

PandaNot · 20/05/2012 21:08

Thatcher. No doubt. She waged war on communities who had no hope of a 'fair fight' and those communities are still paying the price today.

thenightsky · 20/05/2012 21:08

gumby... it wasn't just mines (although that was pretty major), but our steel industry was also destroyed.

I took DS to see Magna in the late 90s. There was a lady there taking her grandchildren round. We were watching the foundry display... she was visibly sobbing and I asked her if she was okay. She said...'this was all real before Thatcher... now we are a fucking theme park'.

ReindeerBollocks · 20/05/2012 21:09

Thatcher.

thenightsky · 20/05/2012 21:10

Now I'm sat here, welling up with tears... THAT is how much Thatcher is hated by Yorkshire people.

valiumredhead · 20/05/2012 21:12

curry I was waiting for you to turn up Wink

tootiredtothink · 20/05/2012 21:12

Thatcher

Gumby · 20/05/2012 21:12

Sorry to be thick but why did she close it all down?

difficultpickle · 20/05/2012 21:13

Blair. In a league of his own.

Brightspark1 · 20/05/2012 21:13

No contest, Thatcher buggered up education and the health service and destroyed whole areas of this country leaving communities with no jobs, no hope and no future, squandered North Sea oil revenue and and ...
The health service improved a lot under Blair, but I cannot accept his conduct over Iraq.
Not keen on DC either- slimy git

Chubfuddler · 20/05/2012 21:13

Blair. Pure evil. Makes me shudder to picture his face. Brown was a relief - clearly a moron, but at least everyone thought so rather than thinking that snake oil salesman was the messiah.

orangeandlemons · 20/05/2012 21:13

"Chris" I worked in textile industry when Thatch as in power. If she had supported manufacturing instead of pushing the service industries, it wouldn't have gone to China.

Because she wouldn't support or invest it became impossible to compete with off-shore manufacturers who were investing in technology etc.

I saw it all. Far eastern plants would have all the new shiney technology, British manufacturing had Jack. They couldn't afford to invest. Hence production became quicker, faster and therefore cheaper outside Britain
Thatch was a monster
