Seems that Blair is planning a return to UK politics.

Thatcher by far.

Blair at least bought in the minimum wage, sure start and did put lots into the NHS.

herhonesty · 20/05/2012 20:40

Thatcher

chocoroo · 20/05/2012 20:41

Thatcher. By a long way.

Thatcher is worse.

maxpower · 20/05/2012 20:43

I hate them both but for different reasons, but I think Thatcher just a little bit more. Bottom line is neither of them (nor Brown for that matter) did their job with any morality and we (society) have had and continue to pay the price.

minimathsmouse · 20/05/2012 20:43

Thatcher by far, she waged a class war and whole communities were left decimated by her.

CaptainKirk · 20/05/2012 20:43

Thatcher, and I didn't even live in the UK when she was PM! Cameron is a close second BTW...

GateGipsy · 20/05/2012 20:43

Thatcher. By far. What she did to mining, manufacturing, employee rights, education, the NHS, and the roller coaster ride that was the economy (which benefitted those higher up as it gave them chances to make money, never mind what happened to those at the bottom). The levels of corruption.

whothefuckputmeincharge · 20/05/2012 20:44

Thatcher. Always. Despite Iraq. Because of the towns across the UK that still bear the scars.

WetAugust · 20/05/2012 20:44

Yes, I was an adult in the 1980s. I also well remember the Winter of Discontent that led to Thatcher being elected. I couldn't wait for the Conservative administration of the 1980's to be voted out.

Having said that I think people have, since she left office, built a loathing of Thatcher that is not fully justified.

I equally loathe Blair. In my opinion he is the most cynical, disingenuous, lying, deceitful politician we've had, who fabricated evidence to take Britain into wars that were unnecessary and unforgiveable, while piling the £zillions into his own bank account.

edam · 20/05/2012 20:46

Blair can feck right off the war-mongering tosser. But Thatcher was more evil. If Blair hadn't been so keen to climb right up Bush's rectum, there would be no question at all. Stupid oaf.

Dawndonna · 20/05/2012 20:47

Thatcher. We wouldn't be in half such a mess now if it weren't for her destroying our manufacturing base.
Oh, and as for being a woman, she did nothing to support women and didn't have a single female cabinet member.

NameChangeaGoGo · 20/05/2012 20:47

Thatcher

edam · 20/05/2012 20:48

WetAugust - if you'd lived in South Yorkshire during the miners' strike you wouldn't say that. We had martial fecking law imposed by Thatch and her minions in the Met - it was imposed on any male of working age who looked vaguely working class. I knew someone who was stopped from going to his father's funeral because the bigots in the Met - on overtime paid by us - decided he was working class therefore must be a flying picket. Bastards.

Jux · 20/05/2012 20:48

Blair. He had no principles at all and hasn't picked any up recently. Thatcher had principles, even if you didn't agree with them. She wasn't in it entirely for herself. Blair does nothing that doesn't directly benefit Blair. Self-aggrandisement and hubris all the way for him.

longfingernails · 20/05/2012 20:48

Thatcher was the finest PM since Churchill.

Unlike Blair or Cameron, she really knew what she stood for (even her staunchest opponents respected her for that).

She defeated the unions, she defended the Falklands, she lifted the mountains of red tape, she got rid of the sky-high taxes so that the pips no longer squeaked, she told the EU to piss off, she looked after the police and military, she was integral to the west defeating Communism and under her Premiership inward investment poured into Britain. But most importantly (and unlike Cameron) she did her best for working-class Tories - people who weren't rich but wanted to better themselves. People who weren't afraid to get on their bike and work hard, take responsibility for themselves and their families. For the first time, they could realistically dream of owning a car, or taking a foreign holiday - or even buying their own council house!

Britain needs a Prime Minister with her gumption and conviction again. Unfortunately all we've got is the utterly wet Cameron.

ChrisPeacock · 20/05/2012 20:49

I don't hate anyone

They did what they thought best for the country and not being a polition i do not know what is involved running a country.

BelleDameSansMerci · 20/05/2012 20:49

Thatcher. Nothing to do with her gender. Her government and policies have helped get us where we are now, IMO. And now we have the absolute emodiment of her beliefs in Cameron.

redlac · 20/05/2012 20:50

Thatcher. Without a doubt.

WetAugust · 20/05/2012 20:50

Edam - I'm at the other end of the country so didn't have the same experience as you, which is probably why I asked the question, as in my mind they are both hideous.

OP posts:
ravenAK · 20/05/2012 20:52

Thatcher, although I must admit I hate Shiny Dave more, given that Thatch is now dolally & pitiable.

ChrisPeacock · 20/05/2012 20:53

dawndonna
You said " destroying our manufacturing base."

The people of this country are as much to blame as Thatcher is
We all enjoy buying cheap crap clothing made in China than buying quality goods made in this country

WetAugust · 20/05/2012 20:53

she told the EU to piss off

She bloody did not!

If she had done she would have my undying admiration. She knew the EU was all about ever closer political union but pretended to believe it was just a Single Market.

She may have defended the falklands but she left the door open for Maastricht, Lisbon, the Euro etc.

Thatcher without a doubt. I grow up in a northern town in the 80's, I always hoped my DD wouldn't face the uncertainty I did back then, but now under Cameron and his stooge Clegg i fear it will be worse for the youth of today. As a taxpayer I also object to the fact I will have to pay for the old bags funeral.
