We've recently moved and got a cleaner. She's very nice but I'm not that impressed. She scours the kitchen within an inch of its life and skims the rest. For the last 3 weeks I've noticed that DP's toilet and the teen's toilet have poo stripes. SHe has cleaned the toilet but not scrubbed the stripes. Is this not a bit out of order? We can't have loo brushes because DS loves them and charges round the house with them aloft.

I once worked for a woman who left her pads in her pants when she put them in the wash, so I do know what it feels like to think, jesus, meet me half way.

But still, is a bit of a scrub not part of being a cleaner?

arf at a "teeny tiny bit" from someone who checks bog brush holders Smile

That counts as useful sociological research I'm sure!

EasilyBored · 18/05/2012 13:09

(mutters quietly that her degree is actually in Sociology.....) Blush

PickledFanjoCat · 18/05/2012 13:23

You should put an advert in the paper. Cleaner required, duties to include cleaning poo stripes with hands. I expect you'll be fighting them off with a shitty stick.

PickledFanjoCat · 18/05/2012 13:28

God I've just noticed "pads in her pants" did you have to have dealings with said "pads". That's cruel.

EdlessAllenPoe · 18/05/2012 13:33

if she is agency she will not be paid £13ph - more like minimum wage.

GnocchiNineDoors · 18/05/2012 13:35

If you expect people to clean up other people's shit, then at least provide a suitable tool for the job. A pair of gloves and cilit bang are not appropriate.

Teaching your DS not to run around with a loo brush may well be something you want to start with.

phedre · 18/05/2012 13:38

At my office where we have cleaners that are paid to scrub poo out of toilets - there are toilet brushes provided. There are also a million notices about cleaning up after yourself (not that those twee notices actually work as there are always tampon wrappers and empty bog rolls lying around despite the highly paid employees who should know better according the the mumsnet widsom)

BumpingFuglies · 18/05/2012 13:40

I've been cleaning for years and I honestly have no problem with it - it's part of the job. As long as there is a loo-brush of course Smile

wheredidyoulastseeit · 18/05/2012 13:41

IMO toilet brushes are the work of the devil and I have to avert my eyes if I see one lurking in the loo. especially if it has it's own mini lurkers stuck to it.

It's easy to clean loo with out a brush. just flush the loo, squirt bleach round the rim, leave a few minutes for the bleach to run downwards and cover the entire toilet area then flush again. 99% effective and if anything is left after that you can use a bit of tissue and flush it. without ever coming into contact with the poo.
Much better than having a vomit inducing brush hanging around.

oopsi · 18/05/2012 13:41

poo troll??

QuintessentialShadows · 18/05/2012 13:46

Not without a loo brush no...... Hmm

QuintessentialShadows · 18/05/2012 13:47

Why not get single use loo brushes that she flushes down the loo?

If she tied them to a rope, and flushed, she could even clean the pipes as she could pull it up again too, a few times! Grin

(when i was a child my friend used to swallow spaghetti and pull it back up again. Reasonable )

FeakAndWeeble · 18/05/2012 15:46

Oh I do love Mumsnet, just come home from work and started reading this and I am Grin

I'm sure you wouldn't get pages and pages of poo discussion on any other forum in the world. It's marvellous.

I am particularly loving this mention of 'poo aerosol' Grin I am learning so much!

Pandemoniaa · 18/05/2012 15:47

I think I just won't have a cleaner then. I can't stand the disappointment.

Cripes! You are precious!

Cleaners should not have to clean other people's shit off their lavatories. Any more than you'd expect one to scrub knicker gussets, tweezer nose hair or shovel catshit. Some things come with a personal responsibility and it is up to you to house train your own family. Not make excuses for the cleaner.

HeartsJandJ · 18/05/2012 15:51

Eh - why is up to ancient to train the family? It's her DP who leaves the marks, not her toddler. By your reckoning surely his own mother should have trained him??!!

Perhaps OP you need to get your MIL round to deal with the lav and leave the cleaner to faff around with the dusting.

Pandemoniaa · 18/05/2012 15:53

I believe the character known as "her teen" also plays fast and loose in his own lavatory. Either way, lavatorial etiquette begins at home.

HeartsJandJ · 18/05/2012 16:56

I think the teen has only recently come into the household, from what I can remember of a post earlier (OP am I right?). But even so, my point remains, why is it ancient's responsiblity any more than her DP's?

ancienthistrionics · 18/05/2012 17:04

Pandemonia, sorry I never know what to call the teen. He is DP's DN who has no parents and came to live with us full time 18 months ago. He used to be terrible, I once emailed him photos of the toilet how he left it (wee all over the floor and seat). He is now pretty good, cleans his own room, cooks, etc. We used to all share a bathroom and believe me, our current lavish bathroom arrangements are a huge relief.

bleach on its own wont get rid of poo stains or limescale. It just bleaches them so you cant see it.

You need to use a brush and scrub them away especially if they are not fresh streaks but crusty ones.

LimeLeafLizard · 18/05/2012 17:17

I've had such a laugh reading this thread, best one for ages! Thanks for that alone, OP!

And I agree with the general consensus that you should buy a loo brush - and teach the family to use it!

PickledFanjoCat · 18/05/2012 17:33

Please tell me about the pads op! I'm do curious!

gallivantsaregood · 18/05/2012 18:21

We don't have crusty poo stains EVER, minging! What do you guys all eat to have you doing poos which leave crusty bits???? The onyl way I can see that happening is if it's not flushed and bleached pretty soon after it's been deposited. And as for limescale, we live in Scotland so don't have that problem :)

NoVeggiesBeforeEggies · 18/05/2012 18:36

Arf at this thread.

YABU OP, you and your family need to clean your own poo stripes.
(I have never, ever heard of 'poo stripes' until this thread!)

Same, gallivants. No-one in our house leaves skids since XH left
I reckon people who do are not positioned properly on the toilet Wink

ancienthistrionics · 18/05/2012 18:43

Pickled I worked as a nanny in the US when I was 18. The mother used to leave soiled sanitary pads in his knickers . Also, her elderly father left some shorts by the pool, the mother asked me to go and pick them up - they were full of runny poo. And I had to wipe the six year old's bottom.

OP posts:
ancienthistrionics · 18/05/2012 18:46

her knickers that is. His knickers would be even weirder.
