To leave Dd alone in hotel room?

Shelby2010 · 13/05/2012 22:40

More of a WWYD really. We are going to be staying with Dd (18mths) in a hotel next month on holiday & then overnight for a wedding in July. How safe do MNetters feel it is to leave their sleeping DC in the room with either the listening service or a normal baby monitor while eating in the hotel restaurant or attending an evening reception?

Am I being very PFB to worry about how many members of staff could access the room (especially with programable card keys)? The fact that hotels do offer a listening service suggests that many parents are ok with this. I'm torn between thinking I'm paranoid and thinking that they always tell you not to leave valuables in you room except in the safe..... Help!

A babysitter would be preferable (hotels usually have a list of approved ones they will book for you) but can be expensive.

The listening service should be fine - at the most it would take you what, 10 mins, to get back to her?

squeakytoy · 13/05/2012 22:46

I wouldnt.

Arana · 13/05/2012 22:46

Madeleine McCann.

Floggingmolly · 13/05/2012 22:47

Are you serious? Hmm

Hassled · 13/05/2012 22:47

I think I'd be a bit twitchy - sort of depends on the size of the hotel, I guess.
Does anyone in the wedding party know of a tame trustworthy teenager who would sit in the room for you?

my2centsis · 13/05/2012 22:47

Sorry op there's not a chance I would do this but
Sure others would.

Sorry no help at all really

mummybookworm · 13/05/2012 22:48

I wouldn't do either.

bogeyface · 13/05/2012 22:48

Absolutely not, no no no.

AnyFucker · 13/05/2012 22:49

I woudn't, and never have with my two

some people would, I suppose

how important is it exactly that you get your adult time ?

MissAnnersley · 13/05/2012 22:49

I really wouldn't do it either. I think you need to get a babysitter. Sorry.

Is it you and your DH? Could you take it in turns to sit with the baby?

WorraLiberty · 13/05/2012 22:49

I never have and I never would either.

yousankmybattleship · 13/05/2012 22:49

Absolutely no way.

2shoes · 13/05/2012 22:49

I never have and never would do this

squeakytoy · 13/05/2012 22:49

My parents left me in a hotel room (small hotel/b & b) when I was about 6, and they were downstairs. I was old enough to find my way to them if I had needed them and that is the difference.

An 18mo is not able to get out of the room if there is an emergency, or be able to articulate if anyone had been in the room either.

What if there was a fire alarm, would you be allowed back up to the room?

It is just not a risk I would take with my child.

AuntLucyInPeru · 13/05/2012 22:49

I have, in hotels I felt safe in, and with one of us checking the room every 20 mins or so. I felt uneasy every time though Sad

fluffypillow · 13/05/2012 22:49

What arana said. Please be sensible fgs.

newyearnewattitude · 13/05/2012 22:50

I wouldnt and in fact when dd was 18 months old we went to a wedding with her and stayed in the same hotel so that if needed one of us coyld take her upstairs and we'd take it in turns sitting with her... We took her buggy but in the end she danced loads, played with lots of people and went up to bed at 11! She loved it!

Hervana · 13/05/2012 22:50

I wouldn't

How does the listening service work? What does it consist of? How far away is the restaurant?

gingerchick · 13/05/2012 22:51

No way! I wouldn't

edwinbear · 13/05/2012 22:51

No, never. I have taken DS to hotels on a number of occasions and would never/have never, left him alone without a CRB checked babysitter, lots of hotels offer this service. I wouldn't want random maintenance men/maids/room service people having access to my sleeping child.

Spuddybean · 13/05/2012 22:51

i wouldn't be comfortable to do this.

CurrySpice · 13/05/2012 22:52

Sorry I wouldn't at that age either

SugarBatty · 13/05/2012 22:52

Don't do it. Do it in shifts to sit with your child an hour each and swap.
