To question WHY DH needs 7, yes 7 shirts ironing?

So DH is off out tomorrow night to wet our newest arrivals head, DS1 was born just two weeks ago today.

He has managed to round up most of his oldest and closest friends apart from one who married a dragon who will never in a million years let him come out to play to join him for an evening of fun and frolics in the local boozer...... All good so far!!

Then he asked me to iron a couple of shirts for him, still ok with me.......

He came downstairs with SEVEN, yes SEVEN shirts requiring the attention of the iron, with me on the other end of it!!!

Why??? I mean two I could understand, but 7?????

You had a baby 2 weeks ago and you're ironing his shirts? Why the flip can he not do them himself?!

UnChartered · 11/05/2012 19:23

because you are a fool nicer person than i and will do them?

bibbitybobbitybunny · 11/05/2012 19:23

I honestly do not believe this, sorry.

Bumblefeck · 11/05/2012 19:24

nulgirl · 11/05/2012 19:24

If he's going out, why can't he iron his own bloody shirts?

GrimmaTheNome · 11/05/2012 19:24

Make him watch you do the first one, then hand over to him.

cardibach · 11/05/2012 19:25

Do one for tonight (assuming he is a bit rushed), tell him to do the rest?

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 11/05/2012 19:26

Go into kitchen - make a cup of tea
Place cup of tea on table next to a choccie biscuit or three
Hand DH iron
Wish him luck
Sit down and enjoy Brew & Biscuit

hiddenhome · 11/05/2012 19:26

Don't men iron their own shirts? Hmm Even my 13 year old ds irons his own shirts.

EasilyBored · 11/05/2012 19:26

You had a baby TWO WEEKS AGO! Tell him to iron his own bloody shirts!

ilovesooty · 11/05/2012 19:27

My husband used to say things like "Please understand I need a suitable selection of ironed shirts for work"

He's now an ex.

ClaireDeTamble · 11/05/2012 19:28

You gave birth two weeks ago? Tell him to iron his own bloody shirt and get you a drink and cake while he's at it.

Pffft - honestly. Hmm

marriedinwhite · 11/05/2012 19:30

7 shirts, 7 days. Yep, that's what my dh needs a week. DS does too nowadays although occasionally he might wear a tee shirt. DD has five too.

I think I was ironing with a two week old baby - wasn't at work was I. It's all good practice for when the dc need it too.

Have to say I prefer ironing to housework and contract out the latter..

Dons flak jacket and runs for cover Shock

bibbitybobbitybunny · 11/05/2012 19:30

I will occasionally iron a shirt for dh if he asks very very nicely and is absolutely run ragged with work. I'm talking about couple of times a year here. Otherwise he does his own ironing or I outsource it even though I sahm with school aged children.

There is no rule or law I am aware of that says women iron shirts for men.

marriedinwhite · 11/05/2012 19:31

Ilovesooty my husband says that too - he likes a choice. Some of his white shirts have herring bones and stuff Grin. Good job I like ironing really and the very nice lifestyle he has given me

PineappleBed · 11/05/2012 19:32

Tell him to iron his own shirts. He's leaving you in with a newborn and wants you to iron too - what are you, the staff?

MigratingCoconuts · 11/05/2012 19:33

really??!! Confused

Heleninahandcart · 11/05/2012 19:35

OP have my first ever Biscuit.

Unless you love ironing and this is your idea of cake.

OnlyWantsOneTwoAndThree · 11/05/2012 19:35

He doesn't need 7 shirts for one night out Hmm

redwineformethanks · 11/05/2012 19:36

M&S non iron shirts is the way to go. We've done no ironing in years.

EnjoyResponsibly · 11/05/2012 19:36

DH irons his own shirts beautifully and miles better than I can, he does my stuff too

bibbitybobbitybunny · 11/05/2012 19:37

Hey, marriedinwhite, do you have a very nice lifestyle? Are you terribly wealthy and living in an extremely expensive house in a super-desirable part of London with dc in private education? Really?? I never heard you post about that sort of thing before.

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/05/2012 19:39

I compromise. While I sit on the sofa, he irons and I will switch the TV to something he likes. See, compromise.

marriedinwhite · 11/05/2012 19:39
