To question WHY DH needs 7, yes 7 shirts ironing?

So DH is off out tomorrow night to wet our newest arrivals head, DS1 was born just two weeks ago today.

He has managed to round up most of his oldest and closest friends apart from one who married a dragon who will never in a million years let him come out to play to join him for an evening of fun and frolics in the local boozer...... All good so far!!

Then he asked me to iron a couple of shirts for him, still ok with me.......

He came downstairs with SEVEN, yes SEVEN shirts requiring the attention of the iron, with me on the other end of it!!!

Why??? I mean two I could understand, but 7?????

I've been with dh 16 years and I have never ironed a shirt of his.....nor do I ever intend to. Men can iron!

Op you need to learn to say NO!

NovackNGood · 11/05/2012 19:40

I outsource it even though I sahm with school aged children what do ou do and what do you live off of?

Let him do his own ironing. Never understood mothers who don't teach their sons to iron. What do they expect them to do once older. He could always take them to the cleaners to get ironed if he is too lazy/incompetent to do them himself.

bibbitybobbitybunny · 11/05/2012 19:42

Heh heh heh, no, we are bored Wink.

Also, if you are fortunate enough to have a lot (financially) it is pretty insensitive to always mention it in a meeting place where many people have very little.

Zealey · 11/05/2012 19:43

Haha. Are you joking? I mean REALLY? Of course he should iron his own bloody shirts. Especially if you have recently given birth, but not even that - he should iron his shirts anyway. And I am saying that as a man.

CrackedNipplesSuchFun · 11/05/2012 19:43

7 shirts all in one go is a bit of a piss take, especially given you have only given birth 2 weeks ago!!! If my DH had made thy request when I had had my DS then I think he would have had the iron thrown at him!!

I would suggest you tell him you're happy to iron one or two but that he has to pull his finger out too. Give and take and all that Smile. But to be fair he is being a bit of a buffoon buggering off out and expecting you to iron his shirts. A bit 1950's IMO ...

Please don't over do it though, what ever you decide to do. You've been through a major thing and your body needs rest, rest and more rest, especially if you are breast feeding.

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/05/2012 19:43

Let's have a poll. Of the people who let make their DH's iron their own clothes, how old are your children? People who iron for them, how old are yours? I'm guessing that anyone whose children are under school age now and wasn't born in 1950 is letting their DH iron.

SecretNutellaFix · 11/05/2012 19:43

Is he allergic to doing his own ironing or something?

TuftyFinch · 11/05/2012 19:47

I have been with DP for about 20 years. In that time I have maybe ironed 1 shirt, possibly 2. He has probably ironed more for me. Neither of us have ironed anything for a good 5 years. Shake, hang and fold in this house.
If he asked me to iron 7 shirts, just to give him a choice on his night's jolly, when we had a 2 week old baby, I'd have to make sure I had a hanky to wipe the tears of mirth running down my face.

marriedinwhite · 11/05/2012 19:47

Bibbity perhaps if I had been arsey I might not have kept the DH - think of it from the other side. We make our luck, we aren't given it. And I have always said huge emotional sacrifices were involved, included the day our ds2 was born at 27 weeks and dh was in court and I had to do it on my own. DH got there a few minutes before he died in my arms.

ChaoticismyLife · 11/05/2012 19:48

Ironing? Confused

Mealiepudding · 11/05/2012 19:49

MrsTerryPratchett I love your compromise Grin

I was born not long after 1950 but made encouraged my DCs iron their own clothes from the age of 10. And exh did his own too.

OP - just say no.

UnChartered · 11/05/2012 19:50

i've never ironed DHs clothes - i do the washing, he does the ironing

BroomForMyChin · 11/05/2012 19:50

People still bother ironing?! Why? Nobody notices a few creases...

mumblechum1 · 11/05/2012 19:51

I must admit I do all dh's ironing. He works all over the place, is knackered when he flies back from some far flung country on a Friday night and I don't mind doing his ironing in between my 18 hour per week job, as he works 18 hour days on a regular basis.

When our kids were little though, I had an ironing lady, and 2 weeks post birth I think dh would have done his own or sent them to the hotel laundry.

BananasInBloomers · 11/05/2012 19:52

Show him the iron, show him the ironing board, pat him on the back and go for a nap.

marriedinwhite seriously?

YourFanjoIsNotAHandbag · 11/05/2012 19:54

My DH irons his own shirts, he likes a crease or something in the sleeves and realises that if that what he wants, he had better do it.
He irons so much better than me, it all looks lovely.

Dd, 14 irons her own school shirts
Ds1 13 irons his own school shirts
Ds2 is 8 and wears polo shirts that require minimum ironing.
I iron my own work clothes unless I need to look really smart, then DH does it!

If I had to iron everyone's shirts it would be 15 shirts, 5 polos and my clothes.

I can't think of anything worse?!

anewyear · 11/05/2012 19:55

I Just dont iron, full stop.....

bibbitybobbitybunny · 11/05/2012 19:55

Gosh, two cheap shots in one miw. Well done.

stifnstav · 11/05/2012 19:56

Leave the bastard

NagooIsBuildingAnArk · 11/05/2012 19:57

DH irons his own shirts.

We might iron something for each other if it was needed and the other person was busy, you know, to be nice.

I iron DS's uniform, because I have a lot more time on my hands than DH does.

You have my first ever ffs here! That really takes the p. You only just gave birth - some women takes double the time to recover! Tell him to do it himself or go without.

Babylon1 · 11/05/2012 20:01

Lol!! I actually don't mind ironing, it's the fact he wanted 7 to choose from for his night out!!

I did them while he looked after the 3 DCs and cooked dinner!! And it's not an issue for me that I only gave birth two weeks ago - really!! I'm feeling great, baby is fab, his big sisters think he is amazing and all in all I'm on top of the world!!

Thank you for the Biscuit though, I'll enjoy them with a cuppa!!!

The only AIBU bit was about the amount of shorts for one night out??Confused
He doesn't wear shirts through the week, he's a plumber/joiner!!

Still don't get why he needs seven. Is he a messy eater?

NovackNGood · 11/05/2012 20:04

Maybe he's going on a date and is nervous.

Leave the b@£*&%£d.

Isn't that the appropriate musnett response :)
