to think that the keeping of dogs for domestic purposes should be banned.

That?s it really. I am sick to death of having to watch my feet to make sure I don?t accidentally tread in dog muck left to steam by some selfish, lazy dog owner. I resent not being able to take 2yo DS to the park directly opposite my house because it?s used as a dog exercise ground and you can?t play toddler football without the ball and toddler falling into said dog muck. I hate that every time we go to the slightly nicer park there?s at least one dog without a lead who decides to come and sniff DS and that while he backs away the owner stands there laughing that ?he?s only being friendly?. I loathe and detest the particularly ?friendly? dogs who lick DS while I drag him away, probably just after eating another dog?s poo or a dead rat or some other disgusting thing they just found. I have personally seen the scars left on a young child by a ?friendly? dog turning savage and ripping the toddler?s cheek off. The problem of people getting bored of their dogs and dumping them in rescue centres is sickening. The stories of dogs being bred to fight, being neglected, being bred for ?beauty? despite the ?beautiful? characteristics causing the animals pain and suffering are beyond belief.

IMO domestic dog owners as a general class have proved that they are irresponsible and selfish. Fear of treading in dog poo on a pavement or in a park is common to everyone and I am so, so sick of people blaming it on a tiny minority. Domestic dog owners can?t be trusted to be responsible so they shouldn?t have them, end of. People should only be allowed to keep dogs for working purposes ? guide dogs, sniffer dogs, police dogs, sheep dogs etc. - if they are licensed.

Yes you are.

I'd love to ban lots of things that people enjoy because they piss me off. But I can't.

ellangirl · 11/05/2012 12:16

YABU but I can't be bothered to argue with you.

AKMD · 11/05/2012 12:16

It doesn't just annoy me; it makes some public parks no-go zones for non-dog owners, it's a health risk and cruel to the dogs.

halcyondays · 11/05/2012 12:17

Yabu and I'm not really a dog person. But I do think they should
Clamp down on dog owners who don't pick up their poo.

ChaoticismyLife · 11/05/2012 12:18

What do you plan to do with all these domestic dogs? Have them put down? Hmm

TheUnMember · 11/05/2012 12:18

YABU I think people who want to take away other people's dogs should be banned.

YABU

There are bad eggs in every batch.

MerylStrop · 11/05/2012 12:19

YABU

BUT and a huge big BUT I agree with lots that you say about rubbish and inconsiderate dog owners

Bring back the dog licence - and make it come with a test of people's suitability to own and care for an animal.

cory · 11/05/2012 12:19

AIBU to think that the private ownership of teenagers should be banned? Because, you know, some of them get drunk and throw up on the pavement and then you have to watch where you tread, and others grow up violent, and it's just selfish of people to expose others of the risk of their teenager.

LaurieFairyCake · 11/05/2012 12:19

yabu

and it is a tiny minority. There is no shit not picked up round my way - either I live in a responsible neighborhood (which I doubt) or the problem is much less common.

I haven't stepped in dog shit for about 20 years. And this is likely because there are much fewer domestic dogs than there used to be.

Rindercella · 11/05/2012 12:20

Yes, why not ban everything where very few people spoil it for the majority.

YABRidiculouslyU

CaptainHetty · 11/05/2012 12:21

YABU. You're also being more than a tad unfair on the majority of dog owners who are responsible and clean up after their animals, keep them on lead in public places and respect the fact that not everyone likes dogs.

LadyBeagleEyes · 11/05/2012 12:22

AKMD what an utterly ridiculous post.

TheReturnoftheSmartArse · 11/05/2012 12:22

You have many good reasons for thinking they should be banned, but I love my dog! He's brought a huge amount of joy to our family, in particular to my 3DCs who each have their peculiarities and find him a huge comfort. He's also got the whole family out and about for a decent length of time every day - my DH has lost 1.5 stone over the last six months, just walking him every day. Smile

StopEatingThatMud · 11/05/2012 12:22

Wow my very first Biscuit, enjoy it, won't you?

typicalvirgo · 11/05/2012 12:23

I don't believe you.

And this is so boring I cannot even be bothered to argue.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 11/05/2012 12:23

Tbh I think you are blaming the whole group for the actions of a minority everyone will be kept in at breaktime.

SuperSlattern · 11/05/2012 12:23

Let me guess, are you a cat owner by any chance?

Here, have a doggy Biscuit

runningforthebusinheels · 11/05/2012 12:23

YABU - my dog is trained and I clear up after him. We love him, the dc adore him and he makes me feel very safe in the house when dh is away. (stupid dog would lick a burglar to death if he got hold of one, but his bark sounds vicious)

AKMD · 11/05/2012 12:23

Biscuit is not an argument. I've put forward several points which I invite you to agree or disagree with.

Meryl I'd be happy with a dog licence but it doesn't seem to be happenign and now I'm fed up :o
