That?s it really. I am sick to death of having to watch my feet to make sure I don?t accidentally tread in dog muck left to steam by some selfish, lazy dog owner. I resent not being able to take 2yo DS to the park directly opposite my house because it?s used as a dog exercise ground and you can?t play toddler football without the ball and toddler falling into said dog muck. I hate that every time we go to the slightly nicer park there?s at least one dog without a lead who decides to come and sniff DS and that while he backs away the owner stands there laughing that ?he?s only being friendly?. I loathe and detest the particularly ?friendly? dogs who lick DS while I drag him away, probably just after eating another dog?s poo or a dead rat or some other disgusting thing they just found. I have personally seen the scars left on a young child by a ?friendly? dog turning savage and ripping the toddler?s cheek off. The problem of people getting bored of their dogs and dumping them in rescue centres is sickening. The stories of dogs being bred to fight, being neglected, being bred for ?beauty? despite the ?beautiful? characteristics causing the animals pain and suffering are beyond belief.

IMO domestic dog owners as a general class have proved that they are irresponsible and selfish. Fear of treading in dog poo on a pavement or in a park is common to everyone and I am so, so sick of people blaming it on a tiny minority. Domestic dog owners can?t be trusted to be responsible so they shouldn?t have them, end of. People should only be allowed to keep dogs for working purposes ? guide dogs, sniffer dogs, police dogs, sheep dogs etc. - if they are licensed.

No Biscuit is not an argument.

It's a statement of fact that you're being a twat.

TheReturnoftheSmartArse · 11/05/2012 12:25

In fact, I think dog ownership should be prescribed to anyone who is overweight through lack of exercise. Grin

kelly2525 · 11/05/2012 12:25

Fuck off, don't tell me I'm irresponsible and selfish for having a pet dog.

I think you'll find people like you are the reason people like me prefer animals to humans.

Yes you sound U, but then you don't want to be told that, you want everyone to agree with you.

cuteboots · 11/05/2012 12:27

YABU- Most people I know clean up after their dogs but you will always get a minority who spoil it and cant be bothered. Unfortunately I dont think you will ever stop this

MothershipG · 11/05/2012 12:28

YABU

If we follow your logic let's ban all kids too because some of them have useless parents who let them run wild and make a mess and cause trouble. Let's ban football because some fans are hooligans, etc, etc, ad nauseum.

Yes irresponsible owners should be brought to book, but please don't penalise the rest of us because of a few tossers. Angry

TheUnMember · 11/05/2012 12:28

7.3 million dog owners in the UK according to government statistics and none of them can be trusted to act responsibly according to AKMD. How did you manage to meet all of them AKMD?

fuckarama · 11/05/2012 12:29

YABU
Even my 10 year old won't walk the dog without a poo bag and she can lift after him.

And where I live there is dog licensing. And compulsory chipping of dogs as well.

And yes, I'm in the UK

SoupDragon · 11/05/2012 12:29

Is it really time for this rant again?

FoofyShmooffer · 11/05/2012 12:30

There's

SuperSlattern · 11/05/2012 12:30

If there issues in your local area then report it to the local council.

There are lots fucking hundreds of things that annoy me. However your wants and needs do not trump someone else's. That's the country we live in.

My viewpoint comes from being a mother and a dog owner

Tbh I think you're pissed off and wanted a bunfight.

SoftSheen · 11/05/2012 12:30

YABU. Your problem is with a minority of irresponsible owners. Some children are badly behaved and/or neglected, should we ban children?

However, I would be in favour of tougher laws governing the breeding and ownership of dogs. This would be of benefit to dog welfare as well as to the public.

AKMD · 11/05/2012 12:31

IMO domestic dog owners in general have proved that it isn't a sensible option to keep a pet dog. I'm sure there are many, many dog owners who are responsible but there is also a sizeable minority who are not. Hence why people have to keep looking down as they walk along the pavement.

TheUnMember · 11/05/2012 12:33

So you're generalising about the majority based on what you admit yourself are the actions of a minority. Confused

Biscuit
fuckarama · 11/05/2012 12:34

So all the lovely pet dogs that are well looked after and that are cared for and not allowed to foul, they should be forcibly killed because you don't want to watch where you're putting your feet?

And because you haven't phoned your local council to complain about the few owners who can't behave responsibly?

FoofyShmooffer · 11/05/2012 12:34

Sorry.

The point regarding dog muck I agree with. laurie must be lucky in her area, our walk to school is an obstacle course of dog crap.

However, we wouldn't be without our girl. If she wasn't with us she would have died in the woods she was dumped in as a pup.
Bringing back the dog license is the way to go.

AThingInYourLife · 11/05/2012 12:34

" Your problem is with a minority of irresponsible owners."

Is it? Are you sure it's not responsible owners that are the minority?

People should have the right not to have their paths and parks covered in excrement.

If we can't, as a society, manage to make that largely the case, then maybe we are not responsible enough to be a society that keeps pets?

AKMD · 11/05/2012 12:35

Generally people have to watch their feet as they walk in a public area because they don't want to walk through dog poo. That is a general problem caused by a sizeable minority.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 11/05/2012 12:35

Clearly you live in a shit area.

fuckarama · 11/05/2012 12:36

I think in general most people like dogs so therefore the minority who don't should be shipped off to a dog free island and kept there out of the way of everyone else.

Or PTS.

Or just banned. Banned. Banned. Banned.

TheresaMayHaveaBiscuit · 11/05/2012 12:37

Of course YABU ... also this is mistimed. The Monthly Whinge About Dogs Day is next Tuesday, I'm pretty sure today is Aren't Old People Grumpy Day.

SoftSheen · 11/05/2012 12:37

I would definitely be in favour of significant fines for owners who allow their dogs to mess in public places (especially kids' play areas etc) and then fail to clear it up.

TheUnMember · 11/05/2012 12:37

That is a general problem caused by a sizeable minority.

How sizeable?

ChickensHaveNoLips · 11/05/2012 12:37

Total toss. For loads of reasons. A quick search should stop anyone having to repeat themselves. I'm not fond of cats, but I don't think they should be banned as domestic pets. Because I realise that other people do like them and have a right to enjoy having a pet.

AKMD · 11/05/2012 12:37

No idea or I would report the lot to my local council.

AKMD · 11/05/2012 12:38

Cats don't generally cause a public nuisance though. Unless they adopt you...
