to think that now you can't smoke in public places, you shouldn't really be making your roll-ups in them either?

Recently, I've seen a few people doing this, and it surprised me (and when did so many people switch to roll-ups?).

I don't want to see people fiddling about with tobacco pouches and cigarette papers in coffee shops and restaurants. Obviously, if they could smoke them there then it makes sense, but now it seems to me like going into a cafe and starting to make your own sandwich (with no intention of eating it in there obviously).

AIBU? A friend says I am, because if they did it outside "their tobacco might blow away", which while possibly true, hardly seems a good justification to me.

Not a fan of the old fellatio either to be frank.

(I bet Frank is)

(Who is Frank?)

tethersend · 05/05/2012 22:44

Someone should ring Amsterdam.

Haberdashery · 05/05/2012 22:50

How on earth is it impolite? I genuinely don't understand.

HybridTheory · 05/05/2012 22:53

YABU and really quite stupid - what harm does it do??

WorraLiberty · 05/05/2012 22:53

So, no cocks then?

I'm laughing so loud I made the dog jump Grin

squeakytoy · 05/05/2012 22:55

The actual rolling of the cigarette doesn't bother me, so much as when they leave tobacco on a table/surface that will be used for something such as food or drink...

I find it easier to consume my drinks out of a cup, rather than poured straight onto the table, and have mastered the art of using a plate for my food..

I would be more concerned about dirty fingers being all over the table than a bit of tobacco though if I were to eat straight off the surface..

Plaguegroups · 05/05/2012 23:02

Oh OP, I see you have accepted you were BU with good grace.

Grin Grin Grin So I will just say thank you for providing the basis for such a funny thread.

blondiedollface · 05/05/2012 23:15

Squeaky I'm just one of those people that always wipes off a table of crumbs/food/spillages/tobacco before I place my mug/plate on it, I find it incredibly disgusting that someone can leave a drug on a surface that someone will be using to place items for consumption on.

No need for the sarcasm, completely unnecessary and out of place.

takingiteasy · 05/05/2012 23:15

I smoked roll ups 10 years ago when I met dh. I wasn't skint back then I just prefered them and thought they made me look cool and interesting until dh pointed out I just looked skint. I do still prefer a rolly though.

Drum gold with a slim filter. Never roaches a roll up I thought that was just for joints!

Nevertooearlyforcake · 06/05/2012 00:02

I had a weird urge to have a rollie yesterday, a decade after giving them up - have now got steps at the back door just perfect for a cup of tea and a smoke.... BUT I won't - though in the past I might have gone into the cafe and order something to give me a sheltered place to make up one up...

SeaHouses · 06/05/2012 00:08

Is that meant to be ironic? You are complaining that people are rolling up a drug (by which you mean tobacco) in a coffee shop, where people frequently consume coffee, which is a drug.

Hebiegebies · 06/05/2012 00:12

Seahouses, perhaps that's because they weren't prepared to share.

Do you think we will need to prove we are british citizens before we can order a latte?!

theodorakis · 06/05/2012 06:55

Life. Get.

lollilou · 06/05/2012 10:05

Yabu and you know it now. Had a feeling this thread was going to go this way even with alot of the rabid non-smokers on here.
I smoke roll ups and I have a pretty silver tin which I bring out wherever I want to be it cafe, pub or club sometimes in a shopping mall Shock I've never considered your point op and to be honest I'm not going to consider it againSmile

One of the reasons I married DH was for his impressive rollie making skills.

OP you are a loon ( in a good way). Grin

DizzyKipper · 06/05/2012 10:15

Of course it makes sense for people to make their roll ups inside, in the warm, away from the wind that will blow their tobacco away, where they're already sitting comfortably and actually have a good seat for making the roll up on. And where they're still in company and can continue on with their chat in the meantime. I don't understand how you can fail to see all this. YABU and so so judgy!

DizzyKipper · 06/05/2012 10:18

Oh yes agree with squeakytoy, I'm also one who finds drinking from a glass and eating off a plate far easier than straight from the table Wink If you're concerned about the hygiene of the table have you been monitoring how many people do/don't wash their hands after coming out from the toilet and putting their hands all over them? Grin

sparkle12mar08 · 06/05/2012 10:19

Well may I be the first to say I think the OP is entirely reasonable?! Rolling cigarettes in a restaurant is common, nasty and very bad manners. But then I'm the person who'd happily ban smoking anywhere except in the privacy of someone's own home. Flame away folks!

SoupDragon · 06/05/2012 10:21

If you don't like the look of it, look somewhere else.

MrsPlanB · 06/05/2012 10:23

YABU and a bit weird.

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 06/05/2012 10:25

I hate it when people start putting their coats on before they've left my house. So rude. Coats are for outside, not inside, so why don't they wait until I've closed the door behind them to start putting on coats?

EmmaCate · 06/05/2012 10:25

YABU. That's it really. They could say to you 'do they have to do it in public places' all manner of things child-related that they'd rather not see while eating and drinking.

LadyBeagleEyes · 06/05/2012 10:30

Grin at being nasty and common.
I smoke roll ups because I can't afford fags.
And yes, a roach is for joints, I use the filters.
And yes I make them in cafes, on the bus, everywhere really.
