to think that now you can't smoke in public places, you shouldn't really be making your roll-ups in them either?

Recently, I've seen a few people doing this, and it surprised me (and when did so many people switch to roll-ups?).

I don't want to see people fiddling about with tobacco pouches and cigarette papers in coffee shops and restaurants. Obviously, if they could smoke them there then it makes sense, but now it seems to me like going into a cafe and starting to make your own sandwich (with no intention of eating it in there obviously).

AIBU? A friend says I am, because if they did it outside "their tobacco might blow away", which while possibly true, hardly seems a good justification to me.

I never roll my cigarettes in a restaurant.

I've taught DS to do it, he looks so cute and it keeps him quiet.....Grin

Ok but seriously what harm does it do? You try rolling a ciggy in gale force winds...

Disclaimer: I dont actually smoke roll ups.

YABU.

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 05/05/2012 21:30

Do you realise just how shite it is to have to go out in the pissing rain for a fag? Have you any idea how double shite it is trying to roll a fag in dripping rain or wind?

YABVU.

my mates writing looks like knitting

ivykaty44 · 05/05/2012 21:31

dipped in a meal of roast chicken and gravy

Chubfuddler · 05/05/2012 21:32

Smoking isn't big or clever. I say that as an ex smoker who loved smoking and fervently wishes it wasn't bad for you. But one of the coolest things I ever saw was the way my tutor used to pack and light his pipe during tutorials.

LeeCoakley · 05/05/2012 21:32

Do you think it's ok to read a newspaper or use a mobile even though they aren't 'restaurant activities'?

ScatterChasse · 05/05/2012 21:32

Ok, I clearly am BU.

I just thought it seemed a bit anti-social, as if you were concentrating on the next thing you were going to do, rather than the meal.

Why can't you prepare them in advance though, that seems more sensible to me?

WorraLiberty · 05/05/2012 21:32

What about knitting your own cigarettes in a restaurant?

ScatterChasse · 05/05/2012 21:33

No Lee I don't. In a coffee shop, yes, in a restaurant, no.

If a fag gets rolled in a cafe and nobody is around to judge, does it cause cancer?

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 05/05/2012 21:35

You get a drop of rain on your half rolled fag and the paper tears, plus its a real balancing act if there's no surface to use for your pouch, papers, lighters.

Rolling a fag is an art form....

DesperatelySeekingSedatives · 05/05/2012 21:35

Here's a grip OP. grab hold of it.....

alistron1 · 05/05/2012 21:35

My fil trained his grand kids to make his rollies. Apparantly the small deft fingers of kids make great fags.

Sirzy · 05/05/2012 21:36

Surely if the are rolling them inside before going out to smoke then they are doing them in advance?

Naoko · 05/05/2012 21:36

Well it's hardly obscene is it...and anyway my friends and I have been known to sit in a pub companiably knitting with our pints, so that analogy doesn't quite fly with me either :o

AnnieArsehole · 05/05/2012 21:36

What about rolling up trouser legs or a newspaper?

I think there's a saying that goes 'get a fucking life'

ScatterChasse · 05/05/2012 21:36

Skinny, so why can't you do it in advance then? More in advance than in the restaurant I mean...

OP posts:
Sandalwood · 05/05/2012 21:37

They are preparing them in advance - in advance of popping out and smoking it.

WorraLiberty · 05/05/2012 21:37

I imagine there are more people rolling their eyes in front of you than cigarettes OP.

tethersend · 05/05/2012 21:38

How far in advance is acceptable?

NettoSuperstar · 05/05/2012 21:38

Jeez fucking us.
Get a grip.

alistron1 · 05/05/2012 21:39

Remember that oasis song 'roll with it'? Classic.

LoopyLoopsTootTootToots · 05/05/2012 21:39

Are you allowed to go to the loo in a restaurant, or this a strictly restaurant activity?
Blow your nose?
Cough?
Breath?

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 05/05/2012 21:39

Rolling them beforehand takes a leetle bit of spontaneity out of the rock and roll lifestyle,OP.

Do you remember spontaneity?

The rock and roll lifestyle?

Nah?- thought not Grin
