To wonder when the neighbours will give me my parcel?

Been waiting for delivery of an out of stock item.

It came on Monday whilst we were both out so it was delivered to a neighbour. We got back pretty late Monday evening so presumed they'd call over on Tuesday with it.

It's now Thursday and they still have it. YES I know I could have called across for it and will be sending DH for it this evening but I just thought it would be interesting to see how long it would take them to give it to us. In the 2 years we have been living in our house they have never spoken to us, despite our efforts to be nice, friendly and neighbourly. They don't appear to speak to anyone so don't think it's just us.

If I take a parcel for a neighbour I always take it to them - I know I have it, they may not know it's been delivered, card telling them so could have gone astray, not been posted etc. In fact the only reason I know the neighbours have my parcel is because I retrieved the card from the dogs mouth in time!

What do you do if you take a parcel for a neighbour?

Well if i get a package i keep it safe until they come collect it. They have no obligation to deliver it to you.

curiositykitten · 03/05/2012 16:24

Are you serious?

The delivery person let you know they have a parcel for you. AFAIAC it is your responsibility to collect it from them. You didn't pay them for delivery did you?

You should be bloody grateful that they took it in and the driver didn't take it back with them.

LadySybilDeChocolate · 03/05/2012 16:24

Maybe they are waiting for you to go and collect it? It's not really their problem, is it? Wink If my neighbour took one in for me I'd go and get it, I wouldn't expect her to bring it round.

FateLovesTheFearless · 03/05/2012 16:24

I take it to the neighbour as I am nice like that. However I wouldn't expect them to take delivery for my item and deliver it to me.

If it was my neighbours on the right I would burn it. Grin

PoppadumPreach · 03/05/2012 16:25

i think it is your responsibility to get it - they have been kind to accept it - why should they have to hand-deliver it to you too?

I'm very friendly with my neighbours but we all come to collect our parcels. It used to bug me when neighbours took ages to collect something!

ExitPursuedByABear · 03/05/2012 16:25

I wait for the neighbour to come and get it. I am not a delivery service.

Heard two of my neighbours having a big row about a parcel the other day. It is probably a minefield of rights and wrongs of which I am unaware.

SydSaid · 03/05/2012 16:26

I'd usually take it to them, but sometimes they aren't in, and I don't notice when they get in - so they'll come along and get it. It has been known to be a few days before we've managed to get it to them, as we are in at different times.

But if you are keen to get it, and you know where it is - why haven't you gone to get it? I am clueless as to what your issue really is.

gafhyb · 03/05/2012 16:26

Mostly I would take a parcel, but I do it because I am nice, and not because it is expected of me. If someone doesn't bring a parcel to me, it's no skin off my nose - they did their favour by taking it. Often people who are in during the day are elderly or have small children

Pooka · 03/05/2012 16:26

Stop being so passive aggressive and go and knock for it.

Nancy66 · 03/05/2012 16:26

they've sold it on eBay

halcyondays · 03/05/2012 16:26

If I get a parcel I give it to the neighbour as soon as I get the chance, and any of my neighbours do the same.

NickNacks · 03/05/2012 16:27

I play the same game- see how long it takes them to come and fetch their parcel, doesn't bother me that they don't have it lazy feckers

SydSaid · 03/05/2012 16:28

NickNacks - have you got peugot's parcel?? ;)

NotGeoffVader · 03/05/2012 16:28

If I take in a parcel for my neighbour I ring them to let them know/knock with it when I know they're in. They do the same for us.
However, it all depends on who your neighbours are - I suppose if you have a card to say they've got the parcel, then there is nothing to stop you going and getting it - I suspect they're waiting on you to call.

Petsinmypudenda · 03/05/2012 16:28

You are taking the piss out of them. I hope they ebayed it

gafhyb · 03/05/2012 16:28

But people sometimes don't collect their parcel because the postie didn't put a card through the door - so I wouldn't keep a parcel for more than a few days

Pagwatch · 03/05/2012 16:29

Don't be silly. Go and get it.
Otherwise you risk finding out that there is some reason why they are so reserved and you will feel stupid.

plantsitter · 03/05/2012 16:29

I often take parcels in for neighbours, being a SAHM, but I would only take it round myself if I a) happened to be passing and knew they were in or b) they hadn't collected it after about a week. In both cases I would be wondering why they hadn't bothered to collect it themselves - particularly as popping out to deliver somebody else's parcel involves either dressing 2 small children in coats and shoes and chivvying them down the street, which is a pain in the arse, or leaving them on their own in bed, which I wouldn't do.

NickNacks · 03/05/2012 16:30

Ha ha sadly not! :)

squeakytoy · 03/05/2012 16:30

YABU ... just go and get the bloody thing off them..

HeadfirstForHalos · 03/05/2012 16:30

Yabu. Your parcel, your responsibility. Get off your arse mumsnet and go and get it Grin

landofsoapandglory · 03/05/2012 16:31

You know the neighbour has taken the parcel in so, IMVHO, it is your responsibility to go round and collect it. I think you are being in cheeky in leaving it so long TBH!

gafhyb · 03/05/2012 16:31

Are you being serious OP. If so, you sound rude to me.

ZZZenAgain · 03/05/2012 16:32

I'd go and get it

lumbago · 03/05/2012 16:32

You fecking lazy cow. Go and get it.
