To wonder when the neighbours will give me my parcel?

Been waiting for delivery of an out of stock item.

It came on Monday whilst we were both out so it was delivered to a neighbour. We got back pretty late Monday evening so presumed they'd call over on Tuesday with it.

It's now Thursday and they still have it. YES I know I could have called across for it and will be sending DH for it this evening but I just thought it would be interesting to see how long it would take them to give it to us. In the 2 years we have been living in our house they have never spoken to us, despite our efforts to be nice, friendly and neighbourly. They don't appear to speak to anyone so don't think it's just us.

If I take a parcel for a neighbour I always take it to them - I know I have it, they may not know it's been delivered, card telling them so could have gone astray, not been posted etc. In fact the only reason I know the neighbours have my parcel is because I retrieved the card from the dogs mouth in time!

What do you do if you take a parcel for a neighbour?

Honestly. You are a shit

Pagwatch · 03/05/2012 16:33
Grin I take in parcels but might not get around to taking them to the owner - I am a bit scatty. So I would leave it in the hall. The puppy tends to pee on things left in the hall.
Kellamity · 03/05/2012 16:33

They were nice enough to take a parcel in for you and you're waiting for them to bring it to you? Shock What lovely neighbours you have! Maybe a thank you would be more appropriate!

LaurieFairyCake · 03/05/2012 16:34

Is this a reverse AIBU? Hmm

Surely everyone knows it's the person who owns the parcel has to pick it up?

squoosh · 03/05/2012 16:35

Pft.

Do you want the parcel or not? Shift your bum.

BrianButterfield · 03/05/2012 16:35

Neighbours on one side = elderly, would take parcel round to them.
Neighbours across the road = always bring ours over, would take it over to them.
Neighbours on other side = nothing against them but their front door is literally next to ours, I would wait for them to collect it.

Merrylegs · 03/05/2012 16:36

They are obviously just not that into you - and yet by stringing it out you are seeming to crave their attention.

Also 'we were back late on Monday so presumed they'd call over Tuesday'. Why? Why assume they have any idea of your movements?

It was decent of them to take the parcel. Absolutely your responsibility to pick it up asap.

Seona1973 · 03/05/2012 16:36

If the neighbours take a parcel in for me I always go and collect it from them as they have already been put out by having to take it in the first place. If I take a parcel in for the neighbours I keep a look out for them coming home and then take it round (except if the weather is bad and then i wait for them to come to me!!). If they have your parcel and you want it then go and get it rather than waiting about for them to bring it to you.

Merrylegs · 03/05/2012 16:37

(ah - reverse AIBU. Good call LFC. Has to be!)

ENormaSnob · 03/05/2012 16:39

It is up to you to collect imo.

storminabuttercup · 03/05/2012 16:39

Let's hope it's not covered in shit Grin

HeadfirstForHalos · 03/05/2012 16:42

Yes, it's not a pouffe is it?

iwannabewizbit · 03/05/2012 16:43

dont be so bloody lazy, go and get it. are they meant to hope you are in and risk tooing and frowing with it until they catch you?

fanoftheinvisibleman · 03/05/2012 16:44

I'd think you were bloody ungrateful when I'd done you a favour taking your parcel in tbh.

Icelollycraving · 03/05/2012 16:44

If this is considered interesting to you op,I must be missing something. Yabu, get off your backside & get it.

thefurryone · 03/05/2012 16:44

Generally I go and collect my parcels and would see it as my responsibility to do so, although I did have a card through the door the other day that had the neighbour box ticked but no number. I decided to give it 24 hours before conducting house to house enquiries. Thankfully nice neighbour dropped it off on his way to work. I did apologise for not picking it up. So YABU.

VonHerrBurton · 03/05/2012 16:44

Unless it's some huge bloody thing, I would take it in, sign for it and it would sit in my hall until they came for it. I would forget it was there. Stop being rediculous, go and get it. If that's all you have in your life to think about - 'will they/won't they bring it today' I feel sorry for you.

You sound like my in-laws - that's exactly the sort of thing they would do, acting all passive aggressive and when it was eventually hand delivered to them by the neighbour who was nice enough to accept it in the first place 'ooh, we've been waiting for this, thought you may be too busy as you hadn't brought it before now, but never mind'

Go and get it, don't be so silly.

PandaWatch · 03/05/2012 16:45

The last time a neighbour took in a parcel for us he came round at 7.30 the next morning. I answered the door, he looked all annoyed and shoved it in my face and said "is this yours?" (it had my DH's name on the front). I said, in a bit of a confused way, "oh yes, thank you" and he said "I thought you could have come to get it - didn't the postman leave a card?" at which point I looked around and saw the card had been left on a ledge, probably by our upstairs neighbours, and bearing in mind (a) it had arrived when DH and I were both at work the previous day (b) it was late and dark when we got back so we didn't spot the card and even if we had it would have been too late to go knocking on our neighbour's door and (c) as it was 7.30 IN THE MORNING when he came round to drop it off we hadn't had the chance to go and collect it, even if we had known about it, I was completely Confused by the whole thing.

So careful what you wish for in terms of proactive neighbours! Grin

LIZS · 03/05/2012 16:46

I think the onus is on the addressee to collect.

RosieBooBoo · 03/05/2012 16:46

Is this a joke? Its your parcel, stop being so rude and lazy, go pick it up yourself and say thanks to your neighbours for keeping it for you.

diedandgonetodevon · 03/05/2012 16:46

Your parcel, you go collect it- surely no-one truly expects their neighbours to bring it 'round!?! They have been good enough to accept it for you to save you a trip to the depot so get off your arse and go and get it.

Onetwothreeoops · 03/05/2012 16:51

I don't take parcels in for neighbours who then expect me to take it round to them.

NakedButNotFamous · 03/05/2012 16:52

My neighbour brought a parcel to me the other day. I didn't know it was there as there was no card put through my door to tell me.

peugotgringo · 03/05/2012 16:54

Ah, majority has spoken I'm clearly BU and a lazy bitch to boot Grin

[scuttles off to tell the other neighbours, friends, workmates and family who do the same as me that they are all lazy fuckers too]

If you were out when it was delivered, how do the neighbours know whether you're back yet??
