To not give ds a drink?

BonkeyMollocks · 18/04/2012 20:37

Ds (4) is currently shouting from his bed that he wants a drink.

He has been offered water twice, which he has refused because he wants juice.

Apparently he is thirsty and now he wants daddy because daddy is normally a soft touch. I have banned daddy from speaking to him or going in there, because it will end with dh giving him juice just to shut him up, therefore making him not listen to me in the future and he will do it every night.

I am in a really shitty mood anyway and its not helping but dh thinks I should just give him some juice.
I think we should sit it out and let him cry it out.

He also did the same thing last night, he went to sleep eventually after 2 hours :(
AIBU to ignore him?

Water, no chat. We are not bitches, we are voices of reason in a world of increasingly spoiled brats kids.

usualsuspect · 18/04/2012 20:51

I would give him the juice.

Rillyrillygoodlooking · 18/04/2012 20:51

It'd be nothing from me. Ignore and if he got up, put him back to bed in silence.

DublinMammy · 18/04/2012 20:52

Here's a massive Wine. Try earplugs as well to really enjoy it.

Mrsjay · 18/04/2012 20:52

I used to give my dds a drinks bottle with water at bedtime started with dd1 bawling to have juice as she may die of thirst and choke because she was so thirsty , Yes she was THAT dramatic , so i got juice bottle filled it with water just to save the little mites life Grin they soon get bored and go to sleep ,

Sparklingbrook · 18/04/2012 20:52

Why usual?

gafhyb · 18/04/2012 20:53

Don't give in. The fact he's been going on this long will make it even worse to give in now

BonkeyMollocks · 18/04/2012 20:54

Ooo he has just asked for water....

Because I couldn't be bothered to have a screaming child , when a drink of juice would shut him up.

There an honest answer for you.

Midnightmoon · 18/04/2012 20:56

YANBU
Don't give in and eventually he will learn and just take the water or (hopefully) sleep.
Plus juice is bad for teeth, my mum gave me juice and I had to have a false tooth at 15 because of it.

Stay strong :)

BonkeyMollocks · 18/04/2012 20:57

I called it picking my battles or wanting a bit of peace.

curiositykitten · 18/04/2012 20:59

usual - and tomorrow, when he wants an X-Box, you give him that just to "shut him up" too?

tinkertitonk · 18/04/2012 21:00

Oh ffs give the little blighter his drink. It's not like he's demanding whisky.

BonkeyMollocks · 18/04/2012 21:01

tinker If he was demanding whisky, should I give him a drink then?

He has had water and is now quiet-ish

usualsuspect · 18/04/2012 21:02

Mine always had juice to drink

marriedinwhite · 18/04/2012 21:03

The teeth cleaning is the issue. If he has juice, he has to get up and wake right up to clean his teeth.

usualsuspect · 18/04/2012 21:03

I would not let a child scream for 2 hours over a drink of bloody juice

Showmethemhappyfeet · 18/04/2012 21:04

Wow you lot who would give him juice, bet your kids like you well more than mine likes me!

BonkeyMollocks · 18/04/2012 21:05

usual The problem is that it isn't just juice at the moment.
He has done the same over the past few days when I have refused to give him a easter egg for dinner.

I am not going to give in and make it worse! I would rather sort it now!

GwenTen · 18/04/2012 21:06

Mine only wants water anyway but I would have given him the juice. But there again I have been known to take toast to him Blush I am a soft touch.

CaptainVonTrapp · 18/04/2012 21:07

Water only. If he's thirsty he'll drink it. He wont be up for two hours tonight. If you've said water only, you need to follow through.

usualsuspect · 18/04/2012 21:08

Juice, child sleeps V 2 hours of screaming

I know what I would do

But each to their own.
