To think caesarean scar should not be irritating after 13 years?.

13 years ago I had an emergency caesarean under general. I've never had any problems with the scar, have had no pregnancies since.

For the last couple of weeks my scar has been itching like anything, it's almost insanely itchy and it was all I could do yesterday in a really serious meeting not to say excuse me and have a good old scratch!

Has anyone else had this? I'd feel a bit silly going to GP about it, but it is showing no signs of stopping and is getting embarrassing!

My appendix scar does this occasionally and its 25 years old Grin Christ when did I become so old!

Rhinosaurus · 18/04/2012 14:56

Hersetta, you should get that seen by a GP as its an infection risk, or could possibly cause an suture granuloma - a lump around the suture which could be painful, or an abscess could develop.

Thanks Rhino - thought that would be the case. i am currently in denial though!

Debsbear · 18/04/2012 15:54

Hersetta - got to the doctors! Rhinosaurus - you too! [best "Mum's" face]

Rhinosaurus · 18/04/2012 15:56

I hate the doctors typical nurse but am quite happy telling others to go Grin

Hersetta - GP's NOW!! Are you sure it is a stitch? Usually they do a long stitch or staples.

Hersetta · 18/04/2012 16:10

I had individual stiches this time as I had a scar rupture last time and was in hospital for 6 days when DD was a week old so they wanted to be sure the stiches held this time. I had half taken out at 7 days and half out at 9 days.

valiumredhead · 18/04/2012 16:12

Really, make an appt NOW, that could get really nasty if left.

Hersetta · 18/04/2012 16:56

Ok, Ok I will...promise.

My appendectomy scar still itches after 22 years.

Magneto · 18/04/2012 17:02

My mum's scar still itches occasionally and it is nearly 20 years old now.

Random question: when you have a second c-section do they make a new cut or reopen the old one? I only ask because with my mum they reopened the old scar but a couple of posters here have mentioned scars implying more than one.

anniewoo · 18/04/2012 17:03

23 years on mine still itches slightly sometimes

5madthings · 18/04/2012 17:03

27yr later and my appendix scar still itches sometimes, its very annoying. and i cant believe it was 27rs ago i had it out, fuck me that makes me sound old!

Hersetta · 19/04/2012 08:36

Magneto - they opened the old one and cleared away all the scar tissue.

Mrsjay · 19/04/2012 09:00

I have a scar on my bikini line not from a section but a bladder operation it still itches sometimes ive had it for 20 odd years , but if you are worried go to the gp and see , i sometimes put salt in my bath and it eases it , . and for a stich go back to the doctor it was maybe a dissolvable one , if its weeping it maybe infected ,

scrablet · 19/04/2012 12:54

With mine, they reopened old scar to 'tidy up' so I have one 'smily' and one 'frowny'. Not so tidy Sad

mowbraygirl · 19/04/2012 14:29

I had my gall bladder and appendix out nearly 45 years ago no keyhole surgery in those days so I have a 7" scar from just below my ribs. It doesn't help that it is keloid i.e. raised and a bit red. Every couple of years for no reason it suddenly gets very itchy bright red and sore.

I have tried various creams i.e. E45 Canestan over the years which seem to work and then it will clear up and that will be that for a while.

If it doesn't stop itching by the end of the week I would go and see the doctor or even the practice nurse if you can't get an appointment with the doctor.

ddubsgirl · 19/04/2012 15:37

mines gets itchy,i had 3 sections, the 2nd one they cut out the old scar as it was messy(hacked me :( ) but that got infected and 3rd one weeped alot but no infection,it hurts when i have my period.

bonjovi19 · 04/05/2017 23:07

Hi I had a caesarean nearly 20 years ago and it gets really itchy every so often.I use soda cream i think that helps.

grannytomine · 04/05/2017 23:14

I always had problems with my c section scar. Then I had a hysterectomy and my lopsided itchy scar seemed to almost disappear and it definitely wasn't lobsided anymore. Drastic way to fix it though.

peachgreen · 04/05/2017 23:48

I had the same cut for a cyst removal 17 years ago and it itches like crazy on a fairly regular basis. So annoying!

keeplooking · 04/05/2017 23:59

My (also 13 yr old) c-section scar sometimes gets very itchy and can look slightly inflamed. Usually calms down shortly after application of good old Sudocrem!

Guiltypleasures001 · 05/05/2017 01:12

I've two, 18 and 23yrs old, both get itchy sometimes

Teabagtits · 05/05/2017 01:17

I was told it can take a long time for some nerves to repair. Could it be that there are just a few slow repairing nerves? I found this out when 23 years after having a lump removed from my breast and the nipple being completely numb all that time, I suddenly started to get feeling in it again and that started with itching and tingling.

WhIppetWoman33 · 30/06/2017 00:59

After 23 yrs my scar can get sore in hot weather but clears up v quickly with sudocrem. Keep up with application for a while after it has visually cleared and dry well after bathing.
