To think caesarean scar should not be irritating after 13 years?.

13 years ago I had an emergency caesarean under general. I've never had any problems with the scar, have had no pregnancies since.

For the last couple of weeks my scar has been itching like anything, it's almost insanely itchy and it was all I could do yesterday in a really serious meeting not to say excuse me and have a good old scratch!

Has anyone else had this? I'd feel a bit silly going to GP about it, but it is showing no signs of stopping and is getting embarrassing!

I'd go to my GP to be on the safe side, simply because it's a c section scar.

However to hopefully put your mind at rest, I have a few scars - non surgery related, that itch like fuck buggary on a regular basis and for no apparent reason.

Have you tried Sudacrem or come Canasten?

Scars do itch but if you feel like you need to leave the room to itch then it sounds like it's a bit more than normal tightening. Mine does a bit still 11 years on but not that badly. The scars that I have on my leg after an accident I could quite happily scratch to bits some days though!

I had a planned c section with DT 3 years ago.... its is still painfull when excerising or just going for a long walk GP says there is nothing wrong :( and i will have to lean to live with it ... am thinking of trying another dr ?

13 years :( god i thought mine was bad :(

Go to the doctors, it's rare, but occasionally itching can be a sign of a liver problem, I believe (disclaimer - I'm not a doctor!).

Massage is very helpful and if it's really bad then scar therapy plasters which contain silicon REALLY help. Massage for 3 mins per day can make a massive difference, you have to time it as 3 mins is quite a long time in reality.

if you have a overhang ....the area can become hot and sweaty and cause a 'jock itch' canesten will clear it up as will talcum powder after bathing/showering.

Is the scar on your bikini line?

Does it look a bit red?

If so you may have a 'fungus' type infection.

I get this and a little bit of tea tree oil sorts it out.

I don't think liver related itching is just limited to just scars though sea.

My C scars, one 9 yrs and one 7, both at times itch the hell out of me. As above, I found sudocreme good, or a bath with Oilatum oil then the cream.
But (also as already said) probably best to visit Dr, just to be on safe side. Had a v itchy scar once which then pushed out a sliver of glass after YEARS!!
Hope you feel less itchy soon!

I had a little piece of what I can only assume was the stitches thread appear out of my scar, about five years later. Weird. It was quite hard and black.

I don't really have an overhang, I know what you mean - I used to but I lost some weight over the last couple years now it is just like a dent in my fat iykwim lol

Good phrase that, itching like buggery - I just keep getting an image of the look on my dogs face when she is having a good ole scrat and can imagine my face looking like that lol

No redness, until I itch it, then the redness clears after a bit. Will try a bit of canesten, must have some kicking around from where I wore tights to work every day

Could it have been an impacted pube? I am cut on the edge of my pubes and regular skin.

You might want to try Aqueous lotion first. If that doesn't work you might need a steroid cream such as Daktacourt (available over the counter) but you might want to see your GP just to be on the safe side.

If it itches on a regular basis then I wouldn't worry at all, my appendics scar still itches 10 years later. However it is a sudden thing and doesn't calm down quite quickly then I would get it checked out.

I thought about ingrowing hair but it's right across the length of the scar not in one particular area.

Oh the delights of childbirth just carry on giving years later Confused

I ^think& Dakacourt os an anti fungal, isn't it? I thought it was Daktarin.... any way it will work in the same way to Canasten if it is.

I wouldn't use Aqueous creams it has detergent in it and isn't advised to use on sensitive skin now because it can irritate. It was only every designed to be a soap substitute.

Ooo yes my 11 year old scar itches like crazy sometimes. I rub a bit of savlon on it but it gives me the heebiejeebies just touching it .

Are you in the Peri or menopause,and just getting the awful itchy skin that sometimes comes with that?

I have the overhang and very occasionally I get this (after nearly 17 years). Def try sudocrem or canesten as both have worked for me. Hope the itching stops soon as I know how this feelsSmile

Sorry to be the doom agent, but my scar is 23 years old and still itches at times.

I wear old ladies knickers (cos I am an old bat) and that does help, but if I wear skimpy knickers and the elastic goes near my scar I am itching all day.

They cut across nerve endings when they do a c-section, it took years for me to get feeling back in my scar. Maybe itching is a good thing?

Any redness, soreness, discharge go and see your GP.

Not menopausal as far as i can tell no clotty monsters yet anyway, although have the delights of that to look forward to as in 40s.

Sounds like canesten is the way to go, otherwise will have to bite the bullet and see GP

I had my second CS 8 months ago and my scar has been itchy and sometimes a bit weepy. I had a look in a full length mirror and found the cause - I still have a bloody stitch left in!!! not sure what to do about it - most of it has had skin grown over it so think removal would be painful. What does everyone recoommend?

I wouldn't be so bothered if it had always itched, seems odd it has started now as if the whole teenage thing isn't bad enough, my body decides to piss me off too!!
