To not want to be my dogs 'mummy'?

I have a 10mo DD, I am her mummy. Not the dogs. Everyone seems to refer to me as his 'mum/mummy'. When I took him to the vets and the vet took him away to be weighed she brought him back in and said "Here you go, back to mummy." and quite a few other people have made other comments (can't think of any straight off the top of my head).

It just really bugs me.

It's weird, but quite sweet in a way, so even though I don't much like it I live with it.

I'd rather be the dog's bollocks..

That's the thing, I don't know what else I'd rather be. I think it's mainly because I've had the official role of 'mum' for such a short time I don't want to waste it on the dog. Does that make sense? Probaly not but I couldn't think how else to word it, it's too early.

Seriously though YANBU to be irritated if it's not for you. It does seem to be the done thing in most vets and reflects the fact that we do rather baby our pets and see them as one of the family.

I am Sparkling Cat's Mummy and she is my furry baby. She hasn't got anyone else to be her Mummy.

I can't bear this. I agree you are not the dogs mummy, you are it's owner. We have a dog at work and his owner is always referred to as Daddy and the rest of the family as sisters, brothers etc. FFS he is a dog, not another child. So YANBU

But, but he is another child, he's my baby boy. :(

It's fine if you have a pet and happy to be it's parent, but it's not for me.

My old neighbour would rock her cats like babies and they had 'cat cots'.

It used to give me the creeps.

I started calling DH Chicken Daddy

Now I'm pregnant I sometimes call him Baby Daddy. I should probably get help...

I was walking my mums dog and someone told me that I had such a cute furry baby, I must be so proud to be it's mummy. After looking at my toddler for excess facial hair, it dawned on me that she was talking about the scruffball dog.

YANBU, it's not for you, it's just something people seem to say.

YABU. I have 2 DDs who are my little babies and 2 cats who are my little furry schnookums...they all call me Mummy....and DH is Daddy.

I don't like it either to be honest. The groomer done this the last time we took him. Funnily enough my mum and MIL refer to themselves as the dogs Granny though!

When I want o/h to walk the dog or similar, I say (with tongue in cheek), "She wants her walkies daddy" and he replies in a silly voice "I'll take her now mummy".

I would never otherwise call myself the dog's mummy.

These were little wooden beds she had for her two long haired beauties to slumber in.

Nope, the whole Mummy, Daddy thing to pets is not for me either, I have a cat, I love him to bits but I am certainly not related to him! I prefer to think of my pets as friends that live with me.

She made her cats sleep on wooden beds? :(

Poor cats, LittleDog sleeps in bed with his mummy.

I was called my dogs 'Mistress' the other day , which brought a smile to my face as you don't seem to her that nowadays with dogs and owners , made me think of my Mum and how she was the 'Mistress' to our family dog .

Also made me think of the way K9 says it.

I must say my dog was sitting patiently for me as I went into a coffee shop and a passerby said to me ' She has been so good waiting for her Mistress '

My vet can call me his Mistress any time

It makes me squirm too, OP I'm very fond of the feckless menagerie but I'm definitely NOT the cat's mother ...
