AIBU to let them clean the bowl?

I have made cakes this morning for after lunch. Just like my Grandma and Mam before me, I always let the DCs scoop up the last bits with a spoon when I have finished filling the fairy cake cases.

My friend was horrified to see me do this and told me it was a disgusting and potentially dangerous thing to do. I may have said "Meh" to this.

So, AIBU to let the DCs have the lovely left-overs?

Quite not quiet Blush

Just say, "I realise your kids are very weak with a poor immune system and couldn't fight off salmonella in the very remote chance that they caught it, but mine are very fit and healthy so there's no risk at all."

Of course people should lick the bowl, perhaps not kids, unless it's a type of cake you don't like, but that's just why waste it on little people you control.

I've just made a vanilla sponge for my ds's birthday (he's 13 today Shock) and 'discovered' I'd no icing sugar. Ds & dd went to the shop and missed the scraping of the bowl Grin

MissVforVendetta · 15/04/2012 17:48

YANBU.

Lick-licks are the whole point of making a cake.

Glittertwins · 15/04/2012 17:50

I now have competition for the bowl scrapings. They stand there mournfully until I hand over bowl and spoons!

auroramusisamica · 15/04/2012 17:56

I always offer to let my DD scrape the cake mixing bowl but she always says that nursery have told her no, it's not allowed and it will make her sick, so despite my offers she just watches me!

AngelWreakinHavoc · 15/04/2012 18:06

I usually hide with the bowl and spoon in the utility room...

Glittertwins · 15/04/2012 19:13

Lovely, thanks :)

Kladdkaka · 15/04/2012 19:14

Are you sure startail you could be a little bit dead and just not know it.

piprabbit · 15/04/2012 19:20

Kladdaka - wow. Do you think it WBU to make (and taste test) your recipe tomorrow while the children are out?

Kladdkaka · 15/04/2012 19:37

I think you have to test it before allowing it near your children. Anything else would be just wrong.

(Husband and I just fought over who got to lick out the golden syrup tin. We're so sad)

ElectricSoftParade · 15/04/2012 19:46

Thank you Kladdkaka,I will try the delicious Mars Bar cake.

As I am a caring Mother, I will not allow the DCs to taste it. or my friend.

Well steak tartare is eaten with raw egg, so how come it is dangerous with a bit of flour butter sugar and vinilla extract

Kladdkaka · 15/04/2012 19:58

OMG I had forgotten how totally amazing mars bar cake is. We used to make it as kids (hence triggered by this thread). Am now dribbling, waiting for it to set having consumed what wouldn't fit in the tray, honest it wouldn't.
