Just seen him on the news, he strikes me as an opportunistic slimy bully but maybe I misunderstand him and he really is a good guy on the side of the oppressed. Please can someone enlighten me if my dislike is mislplaced.

YANBU

He is dreadful.

EdithWeston · 30/03/2012 08:21

In The News thread here for those interested in this. There's a chat thread too.

As the people of his constituency seem to prefer him (by twice the majority, on a lower turnout) to any other candidate, there isn't much anyone else can do.

formerdiva · 30/03/2012 08:22

I had no love for him at all, but went to hear him speak out of interest (I've been to see politicians from all parties speak) and found him to be really persuasive. Completely changed my view of him. He seemed to be a really ethical guy with convincing political views, but the media hate him so much it's hard for that to be communicated to the general public.

Don't get me wrong - he's made some big mistakes (that cringed Gaddaffi speech, for a start) but on the whole I think he's a good guy.

formerdiva · 30/03/2012 08:23

And weirdly attractive...

eatyouwithaspoon · 30/03/2012 08:23

I just see a in my minds eye a cat impression in a lycra suit ... makes me cringe

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 30/03/2012 08:24

Sorry no idea there were other threads. But wasn't he really friendly with Saddam Hussein? He strikes me as a chameleon who changes to suit citcumstances that will benefit him.

OP posts:
hobnobsaremyfavourite · 30/03/2012 08:25

Oh eat I'd forgotten that.

lizziebennet · 30/03/2012 08:26

YANBU slimey toad that he is. Never mind, if this is anything like the last time he got in, he'll do nothing for his constituents and they'll throw him out at the next election.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 30/03/2012 08:27

I wondered that lizzie. His political career seems one long ego massage with little care for the people he should be representing.

OP posts:
lizziebennet · 30/03/2012 08:32

formerdiva I don't deny he is a good performer, but his only real interest is himself. The people of Bradford West will effectively be without representation for the next few years.

Ask yourself why, here in Glasgow where we know him, he did so badly in the Scottish Parliament elections last year.

creighton · 30/03/2012 08:33

the whole of politics as about ego massaging in each party. the labour party believes that working class people/ethnic minorities etc have nowhere else to go so take their votes for granted. it serves them right that they lost last night but i must admit i find it a mystery why anyone would vote for george galloway.

theodorakis · 30/03/2012 08:34

I am more anti invading other countries than I am anti slimy opportunistic men. I would have voted for him.

crazynanna · 30/03/2012 08:36

Just saw a bit of his victory speech.

"This is the Bradford 'Spring'...an uprising"

Hmm
Whatmeworry · 30/03/2012 08:39

I think he'll do more for his constituents than any major party MP though.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 30/03/2012 08:42

Mind you I was just thinking od slimy politicians cosying up to dictators and the name that sprung to mind wasn't George Galloway it was Tony Blair (with Gadaffi)

OP posts:
lizziebennet · 30/03/2012 08:48

Whatmeworry unless he has undergone a major transformation since the last time he held office, then sadly he wont. IMO you get good and bad constituency MPs in all parties, but GG just isn't interested. The man is good at getting elected, but a really poor public servant.

Mrsjay · 30/03/2012 08:48

HE is an awful man dunno how he ended up in bradford he was friends with gadaffi for years and he actually makes my skin crawl , he is a revolting person and all i could think about was when he was on big brother and he was rula lenska's cat in some weird bedroom role play

Mrsjay · 30/03/2012 08:49

Oh and his alleged fortune is questionable.

AutumnSummers · 30/03/2012 08:53

He is a twunt of an embarassment to my beloved Glasgow. YANBU

Mrsjay · 30/03/2012 08:55

I dont think he even represented his constuiencey ( oh spelling ) when he was an mp in scotland They never saw him even though he claimed to be there for the "people"

LineRunner · 30/03/2012 09:00

I was just thinking about the politicians on last night's Questiontime. Sarah 'I'm a Government Minister' Teather had a total sense of humour failure throughout the first half of the programme, and a total passion failure throughout; and I would have much preferred to see Galloway performing instead of both her and the uber-rehearsed Douglas Alexander, and indeed the strangely tedious Alexei Sayle. (Sorry Alexei, you were my hero once.)

Shallow, me.

crazynanna · 30/03/2012 09:03

Yes Linerunner....rolled eyes at Sarah having to have jokes' explained to her.

And who was that Thatcher wannabe?

Felt let down by Alexi...thought he would have been a rabble rouser...more like a damp weekend.

AutumnSummers · 30/03/2012 09:05

mrsjay you're not wrong. All he cared about was appearing in front of the cameras. No change there then.

LineRunner · 30/03/2012 09:07

crazynanna, Anna Soubry MP (Con).

I think this is the personality and policy vacuum into which figures like Galloway slip very successfully.

MothersRune · 30/03/2012 09:11

He has a strange dictatorship gate to him - like he should be standing in front of rows of marching soldiers...he seems a bit unstable.

I have no idea why anyone would vote for him either...
