Almost any other domesticated animal is better

I honestly never understand all this 'you can't train cats' stuff. I have three and they are all trained and very well-behaved - no scratching, stealing food, begging or jumping on work-surfaces, no sleeping on beds except on the cover at the end of the bed which is specifically for them. It's perfectly possible to train a cat, it just needs a bit of patience and consistency. Apart from that mine all spoilt rotten though. Grin

Oh, and they're not shit at all. I have had some really rough times and my cats have always been loyal and loving.

Cats are fabulous. Each has their own personality, which cannot be said for pet rodents. Dogs are too much like hard work.

tabulahrasa · 30/03/2012 17:55

Dogs come over when you call them to stroke them or play with them, cats might, they might not, they might pretend they're going to and then run off at the last minute or they might come for a fuss and then decide they need to kill your hand instead...it drives me mad, lol

If the point of owning a pet is to have something you can stroke and play with when you want to, then cats just don't cut the mustard. Grin

I mean I like having them and all, but I think I'm really a bit needy to be a cat person. Though I suppose my ridiculously spoilt pampered cats might be evidence against me saying that Hmm

Custardo you usually speak sense which accounts for this thread. It is the law of nature that every now and then you must spout forth preposterous shite in order to balance the aforementioned sense.

Cats are the best.

YANBU, they crap all over my garden. Well, next door's did until it went missing (nothing to do with me I promise). I should have won an Oscar for the look of concern I plastered on my face when they came to ask if I had seen hide or hair of Fluffy (or whatever its name was). Fortunately my street is pretty light on cats.

noddyholder · 30/03/2012 17:59

no

Lizcat · 30/03/2012 18:02

Cats are much cleverer than dogs. Dogs have 16 sounds and cats have 40,000 sounds nearly as many as humans!!

mummymeister · 30/03/2012 18:02

i am allergic to cats - and they know it. i could be in a room with 99 other non allergic people the cat walks in the room, looks around spots me and its over here like a shot, purring and rubbing my legs and generally irritating the hell out of me. even the worlds most unfriendliest cat sat on my lap and waved its nasty fluffy tail in my face. i dont like pets that people trying and ascribe human emotions to. it only "loves" you because you feed it and keep it warm. stop doing that and it would move on. nasty horrible things fit only for violin strings imo

CleopatrasAsp · 30/03/2012 18:35

mummymeister, I fail to see why your allergies make cats 'nasty, horrible things'. Your allergies, your problem, nothing to do with cats being horrible!

UABU,cats are wonderful! Used to always have dogs as a child but now have moggies and they are so clever, intutive, feisty, affectionate and utterly marvellous!

SkinnedAlive · 30/03/2012 19:17

Cats all the way :) I love dogs and all other animals but cats are just purrrr-fect in every way. They smell gorgeous, are clean, loving and live longer than the average dog - which is a big advantage as it is heartbreaking when your pet dies.
