Almost any other domesticated animal is better

I didn't think I liked mine but she ran away for 48 hours to remind me how lucky I am to be owned by her.

Tortington · 24/03/2012 23:35

no no

cat people need to affirm that they are inferior being bossed around by evil laughing cats

whilst dog people like to affirm they are superior - dogs thick as shit,

Meow saucer of milk over at table 2

EnjoyResponsibly · 24/03/2012 23:37

You are quite some distance beyond U and ridiculous.

Cats are the master race of domestic creatures.

They can do all the stuff stoopid dogs do, but chose not to. Why have a dog and bark yourself is a saying invented by cats.

AgentZigzag · 24/03/2012 23:37

Awww, sorry about your bun PP, pets can leave a gaping hole when they go.

LittlebearH · 24/03/2012 23:40

Some cats are boring. I have always had Persian cats. I know they look odd or miserable, I have found them to have so much personality. Very dog like in their behaviour but less smelly and smaller poos!

misspedantic · 24/03/2012 23:40

YANBU Anyone with a cat knows that they have an annoy habit of sitting between you and the tv with there arse right up against your nose when you're lying on the sofa. OK if Jeremy Kyle is on but damn annoy when watching Xfactor.

edam · 24/03/2012 23:43

Sorry to hear your rabbit is deceased, PP.

Who was it who said 'dogs have owners, cats have staff'?

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 24/03/2012 23:44

Yes. I agree wholeheartedly.

Dogs are a bit crap too.

I like, erm.......ducks. Feed 'em bread and they're happy. But not swans. Nasty.

EnjoyResponsibly · 24/03/2012 23:45

Edam a cat Grin

Pawan · 24/03/2012 23:45

A friend defines her guests as "dog guests" or "cat guests"

.... dog guests need lots of looking after, feeding, taking out for walks and attention

....cat guests are easy to please, as long as there is somewhere to sleep, they will come and go without bothering you....

DilysPrice · 24/03/2012 23:49

As discussed on a digression to the kosher food thread, many dogs will happily, nay, eagerly, wolf down any faeces left lying around in the cats' litter tray.

I'm pretty sure this proves cats > dogs, surely?

Pawan · 24/03/2012 23:50

Maybe for the ultimate discussion, you need to read/see Lydia Monks excellent book about a cat who wants to be a dog, entitled "I wish I were a dog" - lots of pros and cons for each.

AIBUqatada · 24/03/2012 23:50

Cats are cleverer than dogs but just too free-spirited to learn stuff. Yep, absolutely. Like PFBs whose mediocre school performance is because they are sooo gifted and talented that school bores them.

And when dogs herd sheep, or predict epileptic fits or load washing machines for wheelchair users or sniff injured people out of avalanches, that is because they are too stooopid to give up and lick their bottoms instead.

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 24/03/2012 23:54

I'm with you , op, hate cats. It's the way they stare. Yuk. Emotionless cold cruel little sadists. Narcs of the pet world.

BackPackBackPack · 24/03/2012 23:57

I grew up with cats.

I had 2 cats until 4months ago, until 1 was ran over and the other died which we belive was caused through Antifreeze.

I wanted another cat but DP and DD wanted a dog so we now have a dog. I love my dog but would still prefer a cat.

So YABU cats are much better pets. My cats always used to know when to cuddle me and leave me alone, All the cats needed was feeding and plenty of water and the odd cuddle when they came for it. Pooch just bounds right up to me and stares at me for hours. I move off the Sofa and he sits down with a sigh, Hes only a pup and he owns the house already. I really hope when we are able to walk him he is much better. Aswell as starting Puppy training as at the moment all the dog does is sit and watch me then howls when I go to bed, So he now sleeps with us and when he is fully grown I don't have a clue where he is going to sleep, I'm sure he thinks hes a tiny dog.

DD and Pooch plays a game where Pooch hides and DD has to find him which = chaos in the house.

edam · 24/03/2012 23:59

Enjoy, you could be right there...

AIBU (great name, btw), cats can learn, they just aren't interested in doing any of the things that dogs learn that are useful to humans, such as fetching, carrying and rescuing.

My childhood cat learnt to collaborate with the dog that my little sister eventually persuaded my Mother to allow her to have. Cat initially hated the dog and resented his intrusion into her well-ordered existence, as you'd expect. But the dog was too dim to notice her disdain, and too furry to realise she was trying to scratch him. Then the cat worked out if she could master the dog she could become a criminal mastermind... she was the clever one, he was the muscle. No food was safe ever again!

tabulahrasa · 25/03/2012 00:03

Cats are stupid, much, much stupider than dogs - either that or I own deficient ones and have only ever met deficient ones...

I don't quite understand the point of cats, mine are substitute dogs. One sort of fulfils that, but she's Siamese. I can't train her though, she learnt her name and she can tell when food is coming, but that's about it. She does play fetch and is very affectionate though, she'll sit with me for hours and come running when I call her.

The other one, the more cat like one, she's sweet enough when she wants to be and I'm quite fond of her, but I don't see much of her (she's either out or sleeping) and you can't do anything with her that you want to do when you want to do it, she freaks out at the oddest of things and just looks at you vacantly if you try and call her for anything.

Based on the catty one and other people's cats I'm not sure what they do as pets, they seem to mostly live in your house, eat your food and ignore you apart from when they randomly demand attention at awkward times.

I've come to the conclusion that they're mostly ornamental. They do that very well.

misspedantic · 25/03/2012 00:06

I once caught my cat sitting on a tree stump with about 10 cats sat round him on the grass. I'm positive he gave me a dirty look and my view of cats was never the same. Every now and again I would catch him staring at me and I knew he hated me. That Cravendale advert freaks me out...

Cats are evil.

EnjoyResponsibly · 25/03/2012 00:09

Tab Siamese may be the exception to the rule. Or perhaps YOU are the weak link.....

edam · 25/03/2012 00:11

tabula - I think you are making a category error. (Sorry for the appalling pun.). Cats are too clever to be 'trained' - that would mean demeaning themselves merely to entertain a human.

Your Siamese, in particular, should be very intelligent. Sadly I gather inbreeding has done a lot of damage in the past forty years and Siamese these days often have health problems, poor things, so it would be no surprise if it had affected their intellect as well.

AgentZigzag · 25/03/2012 00:13

Bloody hell that's sinister misspend, what do you think they were plotting?

tabulahrasa · 25/03/2012 00:13

Only one's a Siamese, the one that follows me round showering me with affection Grin

The other one likes food and, um, being out of the rain, she's not really fussed about any of us, lol

Neither of them are particularly bright though, one got stuck in the swing top bin so often using it to climb that we had to get rid of it and the other one thinks that if she stares hard enough at doors they might just magically open...it doesn't seem to have occurred to her that if she actually let anyone know that she was sitting there staring at it that they might open it for her Hmm

GreatGretzky · 25/03/2012 00:21

YABU. Cats are great! They're (usually) clean, they don't need to be taken for walks, they're quiet...perfect pet!

misspedantic · 25/03/2012 00:22

Agent z not a clue but it really was the strangest thing I have ever seen and has made my mind up that cats are plotting for world domination.

evil I tell thee... EVIL
