Not to make my children change out of school uniform after school

I've never made them and they've never bothered, and it seems to be the same with many of their friends too. With 5 kids it saves on washing too.

The 3 youngest girls will happily play in the garden or go on playdates after school; the only time it's been an issue is at softplay where they have to take ties off for H&S reasons.

The elder 2 girls will go out with friends after school or if home, will either do homework or slob around and don't seem bothered, often won't even take shoes or blazers off.

Odd, or the norm?

I always nag mine to change the minute they get home...they hang them straight up so they're clean and crease free the next day.

iamme43 · 21/03/2012 18:43

Each to their own.

My DS always changes as soon as he gets home I never ask him to he just does it and when I see kids out playing in their uniform I think their mums are lazy......

each to their own though.

lazylula · 21/03/2012 18:43

Ds1 changes out of his uniform when we get it, that way his uniform often lasts a few days and also get a few days out of his other clothes (normally just joggers and a top for comfort) so it does not create extra washing.

McHappyPants2012 · 21/03/2012 18:44

My son has a clean uniform every day so never make him change unless we are going to a party. Saves on washing

troisgarcons · 21/03/2012 18:45

Depends - if its only tea and homework and no playing out - then uniforms until jimjam time.

Playing out - change shoes and trousers, polo shirt will go in the wash anyway

Elabella1401 · 21/03/2012 18:48

Don't worry gingerfrizz, mine do it too and I don't see the problem. I don't see the point of creating washing for the sake of it. Lazy?...how very dare you!...surely you mean eco friendly!

McHappyPants2012 · 21/03/2012 18:48

How can people make children wear the same uniform for a few days, now that is gross.
Kids run around or sat in hot classrooms approx 6 hours a day, a fresh uniform every day

I'm obviously gross and lazy Grin
Mine only change if they are going to play outside and their uniform often lasts two to three days.

WorraLiberty · 21/03/2012 18:51

Depends on whether you have a particularly smelly child or not McHappy

If they come home and their clothes are still clean and smelling of fabric softener, they might as well wear them again the next day.

McHappyPants2012 · 21/03/2012 18:53

Not a smelly child, never sniffed his uniform lol

CloudC · 21/03/2012 18:56

My boy comes home with much of his lunch all over his uniform, so I figure his dinner may as well go there too Grin. He doesn't change to play out, only if we're going somewhere.

AllDirections · 21/03/2012 18:57

My DDs don't change either. DD3 always has a completely clean uniform every day and my older DDs always have clean shirts. They like their uniforms :)

Lazy??? I think clean describes us better :o

pinktrees · 21/03/2012 19:00

I change my kids out of school uniform most days because I want to preserve the school uniform for the next day without washing it ideally.

rogersmellyonthetelly · 21/03/2012 19:01

Mine have a set of uniform for every day, they don't get changed as they are at the age where a large amount of their lunch ends up on them rather than in them so may as well have their tea join it. Really why make work for yourself? I'm not lazy just don't see the point in 2 sets of dirty clothes a day rather than 1

Hassled · 21/03/2012 19:04

I've never bothered to make them change - I don't see the point. They have clean shirts/tops daily, and trousers seldom go past a day or 2 without a wash. Throwing casual clothes into the mix just seems overly complicated.

gingerfrizz · 21/03/2012 19:04

No, I'm not lazy and neither are my children. Having said that, is it very lazy of them not to even take their ties off, or is that just weird Hmm

Mine stay in uniform. It's comfortable, it's grubby anyway - why generate even more washing?

Bunbaker · 21/03/2012 19:08

"Each to their own."

I hate that expression. There is implied criticism there.

Obviously you are perfect mother who doesn't mind the extra washing. If I had 5 children I wouldn't want all that extra washing either.

DD sometimes changes and sometimes doesn't. She isn't a mucky child so it doesn't matter to me what she does. Generally if she is going to play with a friend she changes out of her school clothes.

Lexie1970 · 21/03/2012 19:09

DS is in reception - if he finishes school and his jumper and trousers are not covered in lunch then he changes so can wear for 2nd day. Clean polo top everyday!

bettybat · 21/03/2012 19:11

I don't get this new uniform every day thing - do your children literally have five jumpers, five skirts/trousers, five blazers, five ties?? Or do you wash one whole uniform every night?

Am I being a real div here? I mean, five shirts - yes. But five WHOLE sets of uniform? As far as I remember, I had two or three jumpers, a couple of skirts, one blazer, one tie and five shirts.

Sparklingbrook · 21/03/2012 19:11

Mine do, but they wear shirts and ties so they can't wait. Grin

iamme43 · 21/03/2012 19:12

I always shower and change when I get home form work [ and I only do 4 hr
shifts]

And dh always showers and changes when he comes home. I do not understand why your children would not, except that you can't be bothered.

gingerfrizz · 21/03/2012 19:14

They bath/shower before they go to bed, so they're definitely not dirty!

Yanbu, my ds has a clean uniform every day he's always filthy when he comes out of school so saves washing more clothes if he got changed.
