The one from Fathers4Justice, where they accuse MN of:

"carrying abusive and distressing anti-male content which promotes gender hatred against men and boys"
and, apparently, labels "men and boys as rapist, peados and wife beaters."

The ad has a lovely picture of a sad little boy with words like "rioter" and "homeless" and "sperm bank" written on his skin.

I am confused, as I have never come across a thread on here where people routinely call men paedophiles and rapists. In fact, usually, if someone implies that a man being left alone with a child is dodgy, posters will pile in and say "God, don't you know not all men are paedos.?"

As I understand it, this is a forum for discussion, not a political movement with a manifesto. There are many and varied opinions on MN, and the minute one opinion is aired, another will be along to refute it.

Or should I just laugh at F4J? The ad is quite gruesomely funny.

It would be really interesting to have the male MNers debate with F4J so any accusation of gender bias was removed

I have been trying to engage with them on their FB site today, but it's hard going.

Socialist Biscuit ?

Lunatic tbh I don't think either the male or female MNers need to take f4j down as they keep running away. It's a bit difficult to hold a meaningful debate when one party makes a comment and then takes their ball and goes home when no-one else agrees with them!

NowThenWreck · 16/03/2012 21:15

I have a fair few reasons to hate men, if I was so inclined:
My feckless, faithless father who never paid maintenance for his kids, my abusive relationship where I exited with 2 broken ribs, my Ex, who pays no maintenance and takes no real responsibility for his child.
I loved my dad, moved on from the abusive relationship (never pressed charges when I should have) and enable my Ex a relationship with his child with no caveats.
I don't hate men, in general, and most posters on here don't either.
I could come pretty close to hate for an organisation which says explicitly that women lie about DV to stop men from seeing their kids.
But I won't. Because I have bigger balls than the lot of you Father for Justice.

There is no need to apologise for your views, absentwanderer.

They are wrong, mind you, but you don't need to apologise for having an opinion.

As for your comments about attention, do you not think that publishing a poster in a national newspaper is somewhat of attention seeking tactic?

flippinada · 16/03/2012 21:19

of an attention seeking tactic, I mean to say.

flippinada · 16/03/2012 21:22

I think F4J do a good job of taking themselves down.

flippinada · 16/03/2012 21:23

Grin Aye

SardineQueen · 16/03/2012 21:23

flippinada

lunatic I took your post the wrong way Smile

VegimalStyle · 16/03/2012 21:24

absent have you seen the ad? It's a direct attack on MN! Don't you think they have the right to rebuttal? Or is it the norm over there to sit down and shut up and take what you're given?

BasilFoulTea · 16/03/2012 21:24

Give 'em enough rope...

messalina · 16/03/2012 21:24

If you stop buying the Inde, it will probably fold. Or at least halve its readership.

MariaFormosa · 16/03/2012 21:25

I'm not too surprised that this ad was carried in the Independent. I'd always thought it was pretty OK until I saw an interview a while ago with its then ?features editor on Sky - it was a discussion about the fact that Jo Yeates' murderer, Vincent Tabak, had been addicted to violent internet pornography ... apparently the only conclusion this guy could draw was that there should not be any attempt to censor this kind of stuff on the grounds that lots of nice men watch it and DON'T then go on to kill anyone ... I couldn't believe it.

Bet someone on the Independent is following this thread - please remind me who it was, sorry - I can't remember his name. It was quite a young guy.

"..sit down and shut up and take what you're given?"

Now that sounds like something F4J would say! .

flippinada · 16/03/2012 21:33

Can you explain what your point is absentwanderer?

Is it that attention seeking is great when you agree with the person or group trying to get attention, but appalling and childish when you don't?

If that's not your point then what is your point?

flippinada · 16/03/2012 21:35

Triple post alert (sorry) but this - "I've seen all the deleted posts on the link provided"

How can you see them if they've been deleted - do you have some special deleted post reading ability, and if so can you teach me how to use it?

Bogeyface · 16/03/2012 21:37

It comes down to the fact that the truth hurts, and when women on here slag off their feckless exes who can talk the talk but dont actually walk the walk, it hits home.

NormaStanleyFletcher · 16/03/2012 21:37

Absent - Justine did not say the posters were angry and nasty. She said that some of the posts had been. People apologised the next day, they only posted in panic when they thought their rl details might be handed over to a third party.

They might have copied and saved before they went kaput

Still

There are no posts that say what they claim they say
I know the post that has them aerated
It was talking in terms of probabilities and statistics.
Maybe that was why the misunderstanding occurred Smile

absentwanderer · 16/03/2012 21:39

I read the thread NSF and if someone writes nasty stuff then they're nasty right?
Nobody thought their details were being handed over it was all headless drama.
