and have suffered health consequences that could have been prevented by breastfeeding?

(and with over 200 posts it's seems I wasn't the only one to think so)

Nobody would start a thread with that title unless they wanted a bunfight to ensue. Plus your post of 21.43 will just serve to fuel the fire.

Heswall · 15/03/2012 21:48

I suffer with my hearing as a direct result of parents smoking, proven to be the case, if I cannot sue then nobody else should be able to.

Sparklingbrook · 15/03/2012 21:49

a lot of the posts involve biscuits. Wink

ledkr · 15/03/2012 21:50

Why does it bother you so much richocet If you bf your dc then surely that is all you need to be worrying about. If we all went around worrying about other peoples dc we'd be exhausted. You must realise what you suggest is ridiculous and inflammatory.

krisskross · 15/03/2012 21:52

can i sue my mum for excessive fray bentos pies and carrots? and crispy pancakes?

Richocet · 15/03/2012 21:52

Ledker- perhaps you should tell that to the formula companies... They seem immensely concerned with how we feed our babies.

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 15/03/2012 21:52

Mmmm Fray Bentos pies. Grin

Richocet · 15/03/2012 21:53

Krisskross- most definately the Fray Bentos

OP posts:
krisskross · 15/03/2012 21:57

i will be contacting one of those no win no fee companies in the morning. Grin
and beans and sausages in a tin. the list could go on.
she does love us though.
i will put my complaints in a card on sun.

exoticfruits · 15/03/2012 21:57

It is totally unimportant.

Richocet · 15/03/2012 21:58

Look- I didn't post this to annoy or offend people. Clearly the idea is ridiculous. It was a musing, obviously poorly executed, about how an adult might feel about the choice their parents made about how they were fed. Everyone knows that bm is far superior to ff, and you are at risk of far more health complications if you are ff, I wondered how one might feel if this choice was made with purely selfish reasons in mind, and not made in the best interests of the child.

I BF both mine and I still think yu are being ridiculous. I wouldn't want to dream about the particulars of claim my babies would write about me!

MrsHeffley · 15/03/2012 22:03

Ricochet why on earth would I feel so guilty about something so piffling as bfing.

I feel far more guilty that I don't hear my kids read every day or manage to get 5 a day into them every day. Both are far more important and fortunately my kids are all thriving academically and physically.

I think you need to get a little perspective re bf a few studies have shown bfing is preferable not that it is the elixir of life.

Haberdashery · 15/03/2012 22:07

HAHAHA! Those of you who were fed on formula can count yourselves lucky. And those mothers who actually fed their children on formula can count themselves as concerned parents doing the best available for their children. I was fed on watered down Carnation, despite formula being available at the time.

I breastfed my daughter but was lucky enough to find it easy and enjoyable.

MrsHeffley · 15/03/2012 22:07

Also "health complications",hmm not sure about that and "at risk" no you are slightly more likely to have a baby with D & V,which lets face it could be caused by many things, would love to see the exact links to formula but hey ho.

ginmakesitallok · 15/03/2012 22:08

Well in theory you could sue her - but your chances of winning would be slim to say the least. First of all you need to prove a duty of care (you'd get that one), then you'd need to show a breach in that duty of care (don't think you'd be able to prove that), then you need to show that you were harmed and that that harm was a result of that breach of care - and that's where I think your case falls down.

Having an increased risk of something doesn't prove that whatever caused the increased risk caused the something.

MrsHeffley · 15/03/2012 22:08

I was fed on SMA and raw egg beat that.Grin

OriginalJamie · 15/03/2012 22:09

Oh Go AwAY

OriginalJamie · 15/03/2012 22:10

"Seeing as less than 2% of mothers have an actual medical reason why they can't breastfeed, perhaps the rest of you should be diverting your anger at the health professionals that have failed to support you. Maybe then bf rates would increase and there'd be a few less mothers with one less thing to feel guilty about"

So start a thread about that then. Obviously.

Or Go AwAY

blackoutthesun · 15/03/2012 22:10

but what shall i do, my mum remembers she bf 2 of us but she had 3 dd's Shock and no i'm not that old

Richocet · 15/03/2012 22:12

Yes MrsHefferly, anything from an increase in d&v to SIDS, so yes, at risk.

OP posts:
Haberdashery · 15/03/2012 22:12

Oh come on, MrsHeffley, SMA sounds marvellous in comparison to evaporated milk! Raw egg a bit iffy, I'll grant you that.

blackoutthesun · 15/03/2012 22:12

oh a i didn't have a medical reason for only bf for 8 weeks, dd did tho shall i sue her?

Starwisher · 15/03/2012 22:14

Lol

That is all
