Mince should not be the 'meat' in a 'meat and 2 veg' type meal

I was horrified! Surely if cow is to be the main meat then it should take a solid form eg steak or roast beef

My reasons are:
I want to cut up my meat, not have to lift it on a spoon
I want to control my veg/potato/meat ratio of each mouthful - I can't do this with mince because it's all mixed up
Gravy has already been added! I want to control my quantity of gravy
Mince is designed for meals where an even distribution of meat is required in a sauce or pie, not as a main meat

My friend says I'm overreacting but I feel very strongly about this!

Get a grip and stop being so silly.

Biscuit
ObiWan · 14/03/2012 08:25

Ah, we used to have that at school.

Like shepherds pie, but without the mash. With peas and carrots thrown in, and boiled new potatoes on the side. It's a classic (if you're 7 years old..). Grin

SydSaid · 14/03/2012 08:26

I'd love to know the context in which you were horrified to receive mince.

YABU. You sound like my daughter when she was 8!

VickityBoo · 14/03/2012 08:27

I buy cheap pieces of beef and grind it myself to save money. So...the result isn't real meat then?

AKissIsNotAContract · 14/03/2012 08:28

YANBU. Who cooked you the meal?

GavisconJunkie · 14/03/2012 08:29

YABU cottage pie, shepherd's pie, stew (not always prime fillet!), mince beeps & tatties, yum...

By the way, you're clearly minted, pass some cash this way!

valiumredhead · 14/03/2012 08:30

So how do you cope with chill, bolognaise and cottage pie?

SecretNutellaFix · 14/03/2012 08:30

yabu.

Meat is meat, regardless of how it is prepared and served.

FetchezLaVache · 14/03/2012 08:31

Oh, do behave.

shesparkles · 14/03/2012 08:34

YANBU-mince is minging! The best part of leaving home for me was not having to eat the damn stuff any more...

MadameChinLegs · 14/03/2012 08:35

mmm, mince and dumplings.

lostboysfallin · 14/03/2012 08:35

Mince is just mashed up meat, you did know that?!

GavisconJunkie · 14/03/2012 08:36
Spagbolagain · 14/03/2012 08:37

Yabvvvu. My DH and DS are like you. They are zonal eaters, cannot bear items on the Plate getting mixed up and need to be in control of their own gravy.

I say you are all very spoilt with your ridiculous demands and should be grateful for what you are given. DS is 2 so some explanation there, no excuse for the rest of you. Grow up and eat your dinner.

doughnutty · 14/03/2012 08:37

Mince n tatties mmmmmm.

YABso, so U and ungrateful if it was served to you. Most of the Scottish women on here will have been brought up on this as a once a week meal. In our house it was one of the two or three meat meals mum could afford. Some weeks it was mostly onions and carrots (homegrown) and gravy. Actually haven't eaten it in ages as I could never match my mums or grans for flavour.

If you don't like it why don't you have a Biscuit instead.

YABU, if someone goes through the expense of paying for meat, you ought to be grateful for having meat. I hate the meat entitlement culture.

Methe · 14/03/2012 08:46

If you're eating it with a spoon yabu.

catgirl1976 · 14/03/2012 08:46

But was it rinsed?

That's the main issue

JaneMare · 14/03/2012 08:49

if the OP had rinsed her mince there wouldn't be a stupid thread problem, would there?

Grin
trixymalixy · 14/03/2012 08:49

Mince n tatties are a Scottish staple so YABVVVU!

CuttedUpPear · 14/03/2012 08:54

YANBU and I can't believe that anyone would think you are BU.
Honestly, it's a human right to be able to control what we put in our mouths.

What do the people who cut your food up for you say?

And that big lady, was she the one who made it? So so unreasonable.
I suggest you just throw it on the floor or even better the walls so she learns not to inconvenience you like this again.
