Mince should not be the 'meat' in a 'meat and 2 veg' type meal

I was horrified! Surely if cow is to be the main meat then it should take a solid form eg steak or roast beef

My reasons are:
I want to cut up my meat, not have to lift it on a spoon
I want to control my veg/potato/meat ratio of each mouthful - I can't do this with mince because it's all mixed up
Gravy has already been added! I want to control my quantity of gravy
Mince is designed for meals where an even distribution of meat is required in a sauce or pie, not as a main meat

My friend says I'm overreacting but I feel very strongly about this!

Mmm--...sooooo..... mince formed into a pattie shape as a burger is OK but not when the mince is all separated like.

I surmise it is the 'holes' between the bitss of mince that bother you. Grin

Floggingmolly · 14/03/2012 08:58

As long as it's minced meat and not minced something else, then the clue is in the word. Ask any vegetarian!

deliciousdevilwoman · 14/03/2012 08:59

YADNBU! Mince, in the context you describe, is minging! It's only place, is in meals like cottage pie, bolognaise, chilli etc, and then, it has to be top quality, lean, steak mince.
*shudders** at the childhood memory of cheap mince, gravy and carrots

WTAF [cobfused]

BobblyGussets · 14/03/2012 09:13

My mum used to make this when I was little. We loved it, but it's more of a kids' meal I reckon. Love the nn BTW Grin

YouOldSlag · 14/03/2012 09:14

If my 5 year old spoke to me like this OP, I would send him to bed.

Don't be

a)picky
b)fussy
c)ungrateful
d) snobby

There's a recession on and there are people starving in the world. If I made you my minced beef and onion pie and served it with veg, spuds and gravy, you would not complain, you would be eating it and saying "yum".

You lost a lot of sympathy by using the phrase "I want" three times in your OP.

Jins · 14/03/2012 09:33

YABU because the best meal in the world is my gran's mince and tatties.

Proper comfort food

OTheHugeManatee · 14/03/2012 09:34

Mnmm, mince and tatties. Had that for lunch yesterday Grin

YABU.

Tw1gl3t · 14/03/2012 09:38

Another mince and tatties vote here, though from an Irish family. YABVVVU.

margoandjerry · 14/03/2012 09:41

YABU. Dean Street Town House www.deanstreettownhouse.com/food-menus/a-la-carte are charging £13.50 for that very meal. Perhaps they are also BU but it's a perfectly nice meal if well made.

Stratters · 14/03/2012 09:43

What? Hmm

wheredidiputit · 14/03/2012 09:47

£13.50 Shock for meat and potatoes.

My god I do this as cheap quick meal when I can't be bothered to cook a proper dinner.

MissTapestry · 14/03/2012 09:49

Mmm, mince and chips with vinegar Grin

GhastlyBespoke · 14/03/2012 09:51

Cutteduppear - Grin indeed

Also what are mince beeps please? They sound like something I would want to try.

Oh and YABU. You sound spoiled, petulant and 4.

BupcakesandCunting · 14/03/2012 10:37

Why is everyone so snobby about mince? It's only like any other meat: shit if you buy the cheapola abbatoir floor sweepings. Get yourself some steak mince and STFU. Wink

thegreylady · 14/03/2012 10:40

Lovely-savoury mince with carrots and onions served in a Yorkshire pudding with a bit of mash on the side :-)

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 14/03/2012 10:41

Are you for real?

I don't particularly like mince but it is obviously meat and why would you need to use a spoon? I can easily eat it with a fork!

Really you sound like a child Shock

GrittersWifeAndProud · 14/03/2012 10:49

Ooooh my secret recipe gravy mince and cheesy mash. Yum yum!

valiumredhead · 14/03/2012 11:05

Thank you grey - that's our tea sorted for tonight!

Northernlurker · 14/03/2012 11:08

Minced beef wellington.....yum

Is this a thread about a thread? Personally i love mince

Spagbolagain · 14/03/2012 11:15

LMAO that the mince-hate thread has turned into mince-fantasising

ItWasABoojum · 14/03/2012 11:31

This is a joke, yes? Nobody could possibly 'feel strongly' about something so trivial!

Personally I hate mince and tatties, mainly because my mum's was always rubbish, but that was largely down to the quality of the mince - it was definitely an 'economy drive' meal. Maybe especially for that reason, if someone served it to me today I'd feel very grateful, as it would remind me of how well I generally manage to eat now - and I certainly wouldn't start a pissy thread about it.

StuckUpTheFezziwigTree · 14/03/2012 11:36

Mmmm I love mince. Had some last night with onions, potatoes and carrots, served on a pancake. It was yum.

And I ate it with a fork!

YABU!

OTheHugeManatee · 14/03/2012 11:41

Where's SecretMinceRinser when you need her? Grin

3monkeys · 14/03/2012 11:46
