RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

DS hasn't slept since friday night. Neither have I. Stuffed nose keeping him awake. As a last resort, I went to three Boots on a quest for Medised then at the forth Boots they blithely told me that there was No More Medised. Well thanks medicine people. You bastards.

AIBU to want to go and do a dirty protest at Medised HQ?

My kids refuse medicine most of the time when ill or in pain.

When they were little with raging temperature, I was gp advised to give calpol and neurofen. Years later a chemist said not to do it any more due to organ damage fears. Shock

Does piriton still cause drowseyness in the kids one?

He did wonder why I was rubbing Vick's on his feet when his feet didn't have a cold...

I hate it when people say it is drugging children to sleep if you use medised to alleviate a cold. I'm not drugging him to sleep. I'm giving him medicine to help him breathe SO that he can sleep. I'm not giving medicine to a healthy child just because I fancy a quiet night in front of the gogglebox. It's fucking horrible when you can't sleep because you're so bunged up.

Ds has been really bad with this lurgy this week. It is the first time he's had a decongestant and we got Sudafed, it was excellent ...but can affect sleep.

thesecondcoming I think phenergan is an antihistamine. Its used to treat childrens travel sickness,im pretty sure its not a decongestant.

TSC, I don't think anyone on the thread is clamouring for them to be back so they can drug their child to sleep.

Maybe to offer them relief from colds/coughs etc so they can sleep, as per their original use in Medised's case. But not actively giving them a dose with milk and bisciuits before bed iyswim

Secondcoming...this isnt about drugging our DC just to get them to sleep, its about when they have horrendous cold/cough and aren't getting the sleep they need because of it and so aren't recovering due to lowered immune system..at least thats the way I read it Smile Sorry your DS needs so much meds, must be hard Sad Hope this doesn't read as being snotty cos its not meant to be Smile

This was on daybreak the other day. Medicines like medised and calpol don't do anything and should not be given for a cold or a cough. There is a report out that parents are over using children's medicines and it could cause liver and kidney damage.

Btw, I don't rate Benylin Night. If your cough is irritating try Pholcodeine.

I think the most overused childs medicine is calpol tbh.I hear people say they give it for all sorts including sleep probs. Its liquid paracetamol thats all.

Only used it once, gave DD1 nightmares rather than giving her, and us, a quiet night.

However, I agree it's really annoying when idiots cause the withdrawal of something useful.

The only cough medicine that works for me has gone, because you could extract the interesting bit and abuse it.

When I can't sleep at 4am for coughing I really don't care if some addict is getting out of their stupid head.

Syndol is the only OTC stuff that stops my nauseas headaches, and doesn't knock me for six like my migraine medication does.

Luckily for me I recently went to New Zealand and stocked up on Mersyndol (basically identical) like it was contraband.

Sorry, I realise this information is completely useless unless you know anyone over there at the moment :(
