THEY HAVE DISCONTINUED MEDISED

RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

DS hasn't slept since friday night. Neither have I. Stuffed nose keeping him awake. As a last resort, I went to three Boots on a quest for Medised then at the forth Boots they blithely told me that there was No More Medised. Well thanks medicine people. You bastards.

AIBU to want to go and do a dirty protest at Medised HQ?

Its not discontinued. I got some only on Friday from my local boots. Its just for 6+ now.

NumericalMum · 17/03/2013 21:19

I am one who goes hyper on the active ingredient of medised. And I get knocked out for days by some other anti histamines. My mum learnt by dosing me up on a long car journey once...

Mumfun · 10/06/2013 23:09

Asked for Medised tonight and they havent had any for a long time. After reading this thrread I will go in search of Dozol.

I need it for me :)

Sparklymommy · 11/06/2013 21:11

I thought calpol nighttime was discontinued years ago! We replaced it with medised and now that's gone too... What is left?

OHforDUCKScake · 11/06/2013 21:39

Zombie thread.

But still Julien Benadryl is for 6+ as is Medised now.

Probably not advised to give that plus calpol to babies...

doorbellringer · 11/06/2013 23:51

I've just spent half my night reading this and cackling at the fights only to realise its all redundant information!

Has anyone managed to find a alternate that's works? I've been looking for years and as it's now 2016 and still no joy please help just need something that helps them and get better and settle when they so ill like medIsed did x

MLGs · 21/02/2016 22:36

If child under six has a bad cold I use calpol (if think there might be a temperature or pain) and piriton. Doctor has told me that piriton works for this and also to suppress a cough in the night.

If over six I give calcough for a cough or very stuffy nose, which has the same antihistamine that was in Medised in it. This is the only medicine I can find on the market that contains this antihistamine. However it also has a cough medicine that (i think) is not suitable under six. If pain or fever I would give calpol too.

People on here might not like the zombie thread but you sounded desperate so I thought I'd reply!

madamginger · 21/02/2016 22:40

There is no replacement for medised. Piriton will dry up a runny nose, but the advice for medication for under 6s changed in 2012 and it's very unlikely to change

madamginger · 21/02/2016 22:45

calcough has also been discontinued, the one that's still available is just glycerin

gamerchick · 21/02/2016 22:45

I miss medised. Brilliant for adults with the flu never mind kids.

twiglet474 · 21/02/2016 23:07

What is a zombie thread?

TwistyBraStrap · 21/02/2016 23:15

ZOMBIE THREAD

eyebrowse · 21/02/2016 23:15

We use a few drops of oil of olbas on a tissue. Works brilliantly

twiglet474 · 21/02/2016 23:17

Also my child is 11 almost 12 and of a slightly bigger size. So not worried about under 6 but do need something avaliable still that could work the same?

madamginger · 21/02/2016 23:29

Night nurse is similar but not licensed for under 12s

WindsOfTremorrah · 21/02/2016 23:31

Twiglet, you've resurrected an old ('zombie') thread. You'll get more responses if you start a new thread.

SoThatHappened · 21/02/2016 23:32

Given that it was discontinued 4 years ago and there havent been hundreds of threads on the subject recently, I guess people re coping without it.

SoThatHappened · 21/02/2016 23:32

*are coping

CaurnieBred · 21/02/2016 23:34

Dozol I get it from my independent chemist - Boots don't stock it and deny any knowledge of it

ouryve · 21/02/2016 23:49

Twiglet, if you're desperate for diphenylhydramine for a 12 year old, nytol have it in the same dose that medised used to have.

I think most 11-12 year olds can find other ways of managing their symptoms, though. Personally, as a long time sufferer of snots and coughs, due to allergies, I find the best medicine is a massive drink of water. Being dehydrated usually exacerbates my symptoms.

unlucky83 · 21/02/2016 23:57

I know a Zombie thread - but I was just going to complain about Sudafed...and point out the difference between 'Sudafed decongestant' and 'Sudafed blocked nose' - in fact the rest of the Sudafed range.
I discovered if i took Sudafed for really blocked sinuses as a side effect it really helps me focus, my brain clears...I become really productive.
I found out that some people use it to self medicate for ADHD....DD1 has it and I suspect I do.
Anyway I've been struggling recently so taking the odd sudafed ...and it has been working, just to get me out of a mess.
Just bought some from an online pharmacy (to bring an order up to the minimum for free delivery) to find it is the 'blocked nose' one - it has a different active ingredient (phenylephrine instead of pseudoephedrine hydrochloride).
You can still get Sudafed decongestant (in packs of 12 at the most) but I didn't realise there was a difference (they are both in blue and white boxes)- just thought I'd get the biggest.
There is lots of stuff online saying that phenylephrine doesn't even work effectively as a decongestant...haven't tried it but guessing it isn't going to work for ADHD either Sad
Apparently is is because pseudoephedrine is used to make meth (as in illegal drug)...bastards Angry.

Anyway something to watch out for ...

HRHsherlockssextoy · 22/02/2016 00:01

Try having a look at NyQuil. I think it's similar to medised, but without the calpol bit.

Got some in America for my son, and it tastes rather delicious.

You might as well take an antihistamine though
