RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

DS hasn't slept since friday night. Neither have I. Stuffed nose keeping him awake. As a last resort, I went to three Boots on a quest for Medised then at the forth Boots they blithely told me that there was No More Medised. Well thanks medicine people. You bastards.

AIBU to want to go and do a dirty protest at Medised HQ?

You're welcome Bups.

Cunty, very likely according to what I have been told. And Beau, I have been told the same that it is VERY unlikely that Medised will make a return to the shelves under its current incarnation by its makes now.

So does Piriton work children who have phlegmy coughs and colds?

Tatty you are starting to sound like you might have a small crystal meth lab in your boxroom :o. You know way, way too much.

In Ireland (and presumably elsewhere but at the stage I needed it it wasn't in the UK) you can get Dozol - paracetamol and diphenhydramine - guarantees your child will sleep. I used to panic buy at that random chemist in Dublin Airport.

And years ago an elderly GP gave me a prescription for Phenergan when I had a 1 year old with an ear infection and was 3 months pregnant and could barely speak with tiredness - he said "I used to drug all my children to sleep and they're completely OK" :o.

Vicks on the soles of their feet, nice think socks on.

Apparently in the same way that if you rub garlic on the soles of your feet, your breath will smell of it...somehow your feet take it up into your airways Confused

You can still get child otravine online, which is great for bunged up noses (2+ years if memory serves). It's actually better for congested noses than medised ever was (remembers the hey day when Medised was 3 months plus...)

Won't knock your kids out though.

Faverolls, I don't know the name for it but there is a small % of people who have the opposite reaction to a medication, in the same way that your DC reacted to Medised

Can also happen with certain antidepressants

Vicks on feet is like magic. Like spooky magic. No logical reason for it to work....but it does.

It's like phlegm voodoo.

You can't get Paramol Shock. But it's the only over-the-counter stuff that actually works to relieve toothache!

CuntyQuiche · 12/03/2012 22:35

I ended up buying Solpadeine (the pink ones) instead which left me rather more spannered than usual!

Jock I use Paramol for sporadic sciatic pain, it's marvellous.

Yes it does Bssh. By drying the secretions and reducing the inflammation leading to it (afaik. I am not a doctor. Just what I have been told by the pharmacist)

I'm very cross about them getting rid of paramol. It was so wonderful for period pains!

Do they still do fenergan? (have absolutely no idea how to spell it but was recommended by someone to give to DS who would hyperventilate at the mereist hint of a spider sighting)

Anywhooo

I stopped buying Medised years and years ago when my GP told me about paralysis - I don't using drugs to aid sleep on big or small people, and never had done. My dh made me try NightNurse once and it sent be batshit, really dizzy and I felt like the walls were closing in.

Is your son a biggun? I used to give my (then 5-yo) son remedies for over 6's. But he is/was tall and built like a miniature rugby player.

Get a humidifier. Those things really work - I'd forgotten how essential it was until ours broke. Dh was on the steps of Argos before they'd even opened the next day!

OhChrist, can speak to my person on the inside of the chemist tomorrow if you want?

BsshBossh · 12/03/2012 22:40

Thanks Val. Will look for children's Piriton. The Vicks trick works most of the time for my DD but perhaps it would work all of the time if she'd let me put socks on her in bed.
