THEY HAVE DISCONTINUED MEDISED

RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

DS hasn't slept since friday night. Neither have I. Stuffed nose keeping him awake. As a last resort, I went to three Boots on a quest for Medised then at the forth Boots they blithely told me that there was No More Medised. Well thanks medicine people. You bastards.

AIBU to want to go and do a dirty protest at Medised HQ?

Well no-one on this thread has said that they use it to aid sleep (as Doing says) and I did say that I have used it when DS can't sleep because of a snotty nose (as Doing says) so yes, I do take that personally. So should everyone on this thread because NO-ONE has said that they use it for convenience. Wind your neck in, sweetcheeks.

So not giving your child Medised and/or Calpol when your child has a cold or a slight fever makes you an ammmmmaaaaayyyyyzing mother now does it? I didn't realise it was so easy.....

PurpleRomanesco · 13/03/2012 19:36

I don't think it would have helped for croup no.

Very few things do with the dreaded croup, It's awful. How is DS now?

bumbleymummy · 13/03/2012 19:36

My neck isn't out my dear - you're the one swearing and spluttering everywhere.

bumbleymummy · 13/03/2012 19:38

Isn't steam supposed to help with croup? I remember reading something about taking them into a steamy bathroom or bundling them up and taking them into the cooler night air....

PurpleRomanesco · 13/03/2012 19:38

Oh stop being such a smug git bumble. You sound like an arse.

DoingHouseworkHonest · 13/03/2012 19:38

Bupcakes, did I say you were overdosing? No. So why all the frothing? I said some not all.
It's even been in the news this week about how some parents are using it as a sleep aid instead of for its real purpose.
It is not a sleep aid. It is a medicine. Regular usage can cause damage - not saying you are as I have not got a clue how regularly you use it, or others on the thread. I wouldn't know.
All I do know is what I have read on this thread - people saying they use it for bunged up noses, coughs and colds.
Not a good idea to regularly use for little things like that - use Vicks or something instead.

OhChristFENTON · 13/03/2012 19:38

I love a good 'sweetcheeks' appropriately placed Grin

BupcakesandCunting · 13/03/2012 19:38

Fuck off, bumbley. A lot of us on this thread aren't talking colds or slight fevers. We are talking fevers of 39 up (in my case) and chronic nasal congestion. Not a little sneeze and sniffle. DoingHouseworks' post was irrelevant as no-one is rueing the loss of Medised as a sleep aid. Sometimes when children are very poorly with blocked sinuses, the antihistimine is NEEDED to open the airways.

My pil used Piriton type things to help their dcs sleep - on exciting nights like Christmas Eve and before holidays. They are absolutely open about it - though mil says it was very rare. They were terribly good at it. Fil is a pharmacist and mil a nurse.....They are excellent parents btw.

BupcakesandCunting · 13/03/2012 19:42

Well, DoingHousework if you've seen on the news about over-medicating and it's stoked your ire, go and start on a thread and discuss it there. This isn't the place for it as I think that most of us on this thread have said that we use medicines by the book. DS has about 4 colds a year. Two are usually worse than others. Vicks and the like does bugger all. I'm not going to be a martyr and NOT give my child medicine responsibly (and remember that this is medicine that my doctor has given to me on prescription) just because there are weedy ineffective alternative remedies available.

You need a cunting drugs company to go alongside cunting airlines Smile

bumbleymummy · 13/03/2012 19:47

Did I say you were bupcakes? Where have I said that you should never medicate? Yet I am being accused of being smug and trying to show how 'amaaayzing' I am simply for saying you don't have to treat every fever and/or there are alternatives to things like medised for colds. Some people are so defensive...

BupcakesandCunting · 13/03/2012 19:49

I wasn't talking about YOU when I said the amazing mother remark. Perhaps YOU need to get over yourself, dear.

fabwoman · 13/03/2012 19:49

He is okay now, thank you.

We used the humidifier but it isn't enough on its own. He gets it quite a bit Sad. Apparently his dad used to have it as a kid.

bumbleymummy · 13/03/2012 19:50

Also, what did we do before antihistamines if they are needed to open the airways? I don't know too many people who died of a stuffy nose....

BupcakesandCunting · 13/03/2012 19:52

Needed for comfort you div. No-one will die of a migraine but we still medicate for those. Well, YOU probably wouldn't. You'dprobably go outside and bark at the moon twelve times before setting fire to a bunch of thyme or summat.

OP posts:
bumbleymummy · 13/03/2012 19:55

Not really...I am actually an amaaayyzing mother :)

Roseformeplease · 13/03/2012 19:55

I take Piriton for my eczema and to make me sleep. Both are linked. Does that make my mother (70 and lives the other end of the country) a bad woman? FFS the sort of mothers who post on sites like this about their need to find the right medication for their sick children are not evil drug wielding witches - they are grown ups working hard to do their best for their children. However, will try fairy farts for extreme itching tonight and report back!

SherlockHolmes · 13/03/2012 19:58

Haven't read the whole thread, but I recently bought some sleeping tablets (over the counter ones) from Boots, and was shocked to find that 2 tablets (which is the maximum you can take) is EXACTLY the same dose as in Medised. Thing is, my sleeping tablets say for over 16s only here.

Hecubasdaughter · 13/03/2012 19:59

Antihistimines were first developed before a large proportion of MNers were born. However I will say that a study in 1955 showed no benefit of antihistamines over placebo with regard to cold symptoms.

BupcakesandCunting · 13/03/2012 20:00

Yes but Sherlock isn't that because the SleepEase is primarily a sleeping aid and we probably shouldn't be encouraging people under 16 to be starting up on sleeping tablets?

Hebiegebies · 13/03/2012 20:01

If I didn't take pain meds when I had a migraine, death would follow, not mine but anyone who dares walk into the darkened room I'm in!

bumbleymummy · 13/03/2012 20:02

Bupcakes, again, where have I said I would never medicate? There is a happy medium between Paracetamol and barking at the moon Hmm

BupcakesandCunting · 13/03/2012 20:04

You have said you would never medicate for a sniffle or a bit of a cold. But then no-one on here has said that they would either so I'm not sure where you sanctimonious postiring is aimed tbpfh.
