to really not identify with the feminist boards on here, when i always thought I was a feminist

seems so joyless and anti sex.

I feel very conflicted now. I always thought feminism was about equality for women, which I dont believe we have, but it seems to re\lly be focusing on the wrong issues for me, and getting too much into dynamics of personal relationships, and peoples sexual preferences

im probably being unreasonable

Mumsnet is massive so if you don't like the Feminist board it is incredibly easy to avoid it. Far easier to avoid than to start a whiny thread in AIBU.

YuleingFanjo · 11/03/2012 14:14

surely people enter into the discussions on the feminism boards knowing that there willl be an exchange of opinions and that some of them may be different to their own? I think there are several feminists on mumsnet who want to challenge and argue with the 'rad-fems' and so they actively and deliberately take part in threads to give an opposite point of view, which is what it's all about isn't it?

Dinah, you don't think the division of housework/childcare/income generation should be of interest to feminists?

DoomCatsofCognitiveDissonance · 11/03/2012 14:14

Dinah, it's not 'their' board any more than AIBU is 'your' board.

And I would make T-shirts but now the kittens are grown up, all they want to do is sleep in the sun ...

AyeRobot · 11/03/2012 14:16

"There are posters who would suggest that the biscuit icon, was misogynistic as it represented the female gentalia - the centre is the vagina, the red is blood and the biscuit is the vulva"

hahahahaha you have a very vivid imagination! It's not misogynistic, it's quite brilliant,

KatieMiddleton · 11/03/2012 14:17

Hmm. I'm a feminist and a MNer so presumably a MN feminist. I have never been given a copy of the MN feminist manifesto and I'm not included on the memos.

Now there are two reasons why that could be the case:

  1. The other MN feminists are evil bitches who just want to exclude me and busy themselves hating the menz.
  1. There is not blanket policy of MN feminism.

I know which one I think is the more likely...

On a serious note, I think there has been a real effort on those boards in the last year to be more welcoming. Or maybe there has been no collective drive but it just has felt more welcoming to me? Of course there are some posters I rarely, if ever agree with (actually only one springs to my mind - we just have very different opinions) but that happens in _chat and style & beauty and other threads with different posters. That's life though. Would be dull if we were all the same.

If you think a board should be different you need to put a bit of effort into explaining your point on a few threads. Engage in some discussion. Ask questions. Pull people up on their outrageous statements. Whinging off board is just a bit pathetic when we're all supposed to be grown-ups.

chibi · 11/03/2012 14:17

This is the first i have ever heard of the biscuit icon representing a woman's external genitalia

do you maybe need a liedown?

perhaps quilting will bring you peace.

I wonder who the feminist board threatens most, misandry dicks or F4J weirdos?

I'm gonna start campaigning for a hairy biscuit icon right now.

KatieMiddleton · 11/03/2012 14:21

Where are these threads about all men being rapists? Or threads about penis weapons?

I miss all the good stuff Sad

Because it doesn't exist.

ShirleyKnot · 11/03/2012 14:22

I might start a thread about the biscuit as vagina.

A vagina biscuit - that'd be nice.

The other MN moan thread ended up with talk about a fanjo cake. It's today's theme, I think.

KatieMiddleton · 11/03/2012 14:23

Sorry the biscuit is some sort of insidious feminist slur?

What the jeff?

DoomCatsofCognitiveDissonance · 11/03/2012 14:26

Grin Katie!

KatieMiddleton · 11/03/2012 14:26

ShirleyKnot · 11/03/2012 14:28
