To think that if someone elderly gets on a busy bus...

...they should not expect a seat?!?

I would of course give up a seat for someone elderly or less able than me but should they think they're entitled to a seat just because they're old especially if they get on bus which already has people standing?!?

Your views please

This is all getting a bit silly. All I meant was that I wish OAPs would show a bit more consideration to working people who need to catch buses, many of whom are working a lot harder, and for a lot less money then they ever did.

Hullygully · 08/03/2012 16:47

STOP THEIR STINKING PENSIONS THE THIEVING OLD FUCKERS AND KEEP THEM OUT OF THE SUPERMARKETS.

crystalglasses · 08/03/2012 16:49

We are all going to be old at some point
I've never heard any elderly people complaining that they haven't got a seat
I always offer a seat to anyone who looks like thet need it or are struggling
I don't understand why anyone should be embarrassed if their offer is declined. I'm grateful because it means I get to keep my seat while feeling virtuous and shaming the other pasengers who didn't offer

lesley33 · 08/03/2012 16:49

debbie - you said you didn't want old people to tavel on buses when people are travelling to wor. When it was pointed out that old people can't actually use bus passes until after 9.30am you said not everyone works 9-5 and you used to start work at 11am. So you were basically saying old people shouldn't travel on buses. Which is ridiculous

lesley33 · 08/03/2012 16:50

sparklingbrook - No of course not! They can shop during the week - office hours only of course

IAmBooyhoo · 08/03/2012 16:50

what do you suggest all these OAPs do then debbie? do they have to go down the queue at the bus stop and ask everyone whether they are going to work or not and if so then the OAP goes back home to wait until a bus comes that no-one who works is getting?

Psammead · 08/03/2012 16:51

Of course they are entitled to be offered a seat. They are just as entitled to refuse if they want.

If the elderly are clogging up your bus, get onto the bus company for more busses! My gran survived two world wars and brought up three children in poverty. She can bloody go where she wants, when she wants.

crystalglasses · 08/03/2012 16:51

What an 'ageist' thread this is. There seems to be an irrational dislike of elderly people. It wouldn't be allowed if it was about race/ethnicity

Hullygully · 08/03/2012 16:51

70 should be the cut off for all of us. We're all a drain on resources and frankly unsightly after that.

NotaStatistic · 08/03/2012 16:51

I think in the matter of freebies that maybe they should pay a reduced fare (really reduced of course) but it is irritating watching a bus go pass because its full of oaps

Sparklingbrook · 08/03/2012 16:51

Thought so lesley. They need to stay in at weekends and let the important people go about their business unhindered. Wink

IAmBooyhoo · 08/03/2012 16:52

but they can't shop during the week because debbie works during the week and no OAPs are allowed on buses that she might want to use.

KalSkirata · 08/03/2012 16:52

please buy a car OP. Your bus obsession with other people on buses is kinda weird.

Hullygully · 08/03/2012 16:53

yes I agree nota

although when you've got em all corralled like that on a bus it is easier to blow them to kindgdom come

IAmBooyhoo · 08/03/2012 16:54

Grin @ hully

lesley33 · 08/03/2012 16:54

Good point Iambooyhoo. Maybe there should be a limit on elderly people who want to go into shops during weekdays so it is never too busy for working people who might want to pop in? And of course if anyone elderly is at the checkout and someone who si working comes along, then they should have to let the working person go first. After all old people have got nothing better to do than wait around

NotaStatistic · 08/03/2012 16:55

I don't mind old people the majority of the time though. I just want a fair system so thank god for the 9:30 rule.

Sparklingbrook · 08/03/2012 16:57

Yes working people should have a 'queue jumper's pass' like at Alton Towers. SAHMs have got all day too don't forget. Grin

Hullygully · 08/03/2012 16:57

really I do feel you are both kind and sweetly loving, nota

OrmIrian · 08/03/2012 16:59

Actually I would like to bring in a ban on the elderly using self-service checkouts. Because they can't do it! Why do they try? It makes me weep with frustration. or perhaps just a ban on anyone else using them when I need to and am in a hurry? That's not unreasonable is it? Perhaps I can get a badge that says 'Very important Person in a Hurry, Please make way'

Not just old people. Anyone who dithers, or reacts in an overly-shocked manner to anything the machine does, or who tries to load a trolley full of shopping onto the little ledge for bag-packing and then reacts with outrage that it won't fit.

NotaStatistic · 08/03/2012 16:59

Why thank you hully, you do have amusing opinions on this subject lol

OP posts:
lesley33 · 08/03/2012 16:59

I didn't think of SAHM Grin

Yes AIBU to think SAHM should not be able to travel on the bus before 9.30 am as they may be taking seats from people trying to travel to work?

Sometimes I can see the appeal of being a trol. But wouldn't actually do it

IAmBooyhoo · 08/03/2012 17:00

when i was at school the local newsagent had a 'two schoolchildren at a time' rule. maybe the buses could do that with pensioners. just let 2 on at a time. that could work. they have all day to wait around for the next bus anyway.

Hullygully · 08/03/2012 17:00

I don't think that's very nice orm.

they can't help being old and fuddled.

NotaStatistic · 08/03/2012 17:00

I will slightly agree with you there orm, self service should be faster not slower lol
