To hate the use of the word cunt on mns

I have kind of get used to it over the months I have been on here. But I still really don't like the use of this word. It is a swear word for female genitals and I guess I think it is a fairly misogynistic insult to use. And it does surprise me that posters who in other ways seem very liberal use language that I see as misogynistic and disrespectful towards women.
So AIBU to think this?

it's preferable to being likened to a nob though, really.

How do you feel about cock?

ElectricSoftParade · 08/03/2012 09:12

Without being too airy-fairy, I feel to a certain extent it has been reclaimed and am quite happy to use it. Probably not in everyday conversation though.

I know it has been used in a very disrespectful way for many years but I quite like using it to refer to my, well, cunt. It took a while for DH to not shudder when I said but I think that's because it was so ingrained that it was "bad". Cunt/cunts are not bad!

SlinkingOutsideInFrocks · 08/03/2012 09:12

YABU.

Why is a swear word for female genitalia supposedly the 'worst' word out there; so much worse than 'dick' or 'cock' or even 'fuck'?

I think an, um, irreverent use of it diffuses it.

Pagwatch · 08/03/2012 09:13

It's interpretation I think. I don't like 'cunt'' being retained as the most awful thing you can call someone.
Why is that, the only unacceptable swear word, womens genitalia. They are not shocking or vile- well no more so than prick or cock.

It's equality 'innit.

I get the arguments for and against. But this is what I think.

Housewifefromheaven · 08/03/2012 09:13

You should go over to netmums. They don't say cunt over there :o

Mrsjay · 08/03/2012 09:14

BigGirlInASmallWorld · 08/03/2012 09:14

It is generally written by the village types.

Wicker baskets at dawn and having 123456789875432123456 interpretations for AIBU isn't enough.

The word cunt makes them gangster.

Wicker wicker..Villagist mahoosive....

Mrsjay · 08/03/2012 09:15

they dont say anything over there they cant even say bloody its fucking edited they have a swear filter sigh

SarahStratton · 08/03/2012 09:15

I'm with Pag. Cock isn't considered particularly offensive, I want my cunt back.

fuzzpig · 08/03/2012 09:15

I only rarely use it online (just did in another thread) but would never use it in person.

To me it's just a word - I don't associate it with a vagina or women in general.

BigGirlInASmallWorld · 08/03/2012 09:17

I've never ever been to NetMums..I can't bring myself to visit yet after years being here in loads different names

RuleBritannia · 08/03/2012 09:17

Only people like Jeremy Kyle's 'clients' use the word in my eyes.

Mrsjay · 08/03/2012 09:17

I say FUD a lot like you are a FUD its a scottish cunt Grin god i cant stop saying it now . I think the word used to be taboo thats maybe why people dont like it ,

Pagwatch · 08/03/2012 09:19

Oh yes. I am very Jeremy Kyle. And gangsta too. Oh yes, I hang with the Surrey massive. Oh yes indeed.

That must be why.

Flisspaps · 08/03/2012 09:22

I think it's a fabulous word, in no small part to a lovely piece in The Vagina Monologues

scarletforya · 08/03/2012 09:24

Why do you think it's mysoginistic? Confused

Swearing is equally satisfying to both sexes imho!

thegreylady · 08/03/2012 09:25

I don't like any sexual swearing at all but I do like mumsnet and you can't have one without the other so I don't use it myself. I think it is mainly the younger mnetters who do it as it seems sadly to have become acceptable in speech as well as online. None of my adult DC use such language in my presence but I am sure they do otherwise. I just feel that using words like that as swearing/insults etc demeans sex, sexuality and so on. I know I sound like a pontificating prig but hey it takes all sorts etc.

Pagwatch · 08/03/2012 09:25

No, it's true. I hang with my homies, have an espresso con panna and cunt shout at passers by. It's what passes for entertainment around these parts.

That must be why. It couldn't be to do with different views of the word. It's just Kyle Gangsta types.
