To hate the use of the word cunt on mns

I have kind of get used to it over the months I have been on here. But I still really don't like the use of this word. It is a swear word for female genitals and I guess I think it is a fairly misogynistic insult to use. And it does surprise me that posters who in other ways seem very liberal use language that I see as misogynistic and disrespectful towards women.
So AIBU to think this?

Interesting - thanks I will have a think about this. Yes I have seen the vagina monologues, but as I said upthread my issue is cunt being used as an insult or swear word rather than the word itself. And I think Maya uses the word as a descriptive word.

I have never used it. I can't. I have tried. I have asked for training. But I just cannot bring myself to do it.

I think it might be my age.

Hullygully · 08/03/2012 16:49

It's difficult because my Serbo-Croat (old school) great aunt is called Acuntia, so sometimes I have to use it.

Hullygully · 08/03/2012 16:50

Try saying Aunt Acuntia after a few schnapps.

lesley33 · 08/03/2012 16:50

Will try tonight Hully

Hate it too. Hated it in the Vagina Monologues too.Wasn't too struck on the whole show, thinking about it......

countessbabycham · 08/03/2012 17:21

I don't like the word cunt.

Can't really explain why.

diotima · 08/03/2012 18:14

Gonna position myself over all the "Can't decide on a name for my newborn - any suggestions?" threads and keep saying "Anacuntia, Anacuntia, Anacuntia" LOL!

countessbabycham · 08/03/2012 19:01

I think I know why.
Because I've heard it used with such out and out contempt towards women in the past.
I don't use it.But I'm not particularly offended by other women using it.
I pull DH up on it if he uses it so I clearly don't like men's use of it.
Whether that makes me unreasonable I don't know but I am what I am.

FUD its a scottish

Yep I love the word fud, you hear it pre watershed.

lesley33 · 09/03/2012 10:11

I suspect its because lots of people don't know what it means. I wouldn't have a clue. It reminds me when the song "pass the duchy" was number one and a radio DJ informed people that Duchy meant cooking pot! If it had been called pass the spliff, it would have been banned back then.

Oh very well known in Scotland, I used to work with a woman who described her hair as looking like a witches fud if she hadn't brushed it.

lesley33 · 09/03/2012 13:10

I would have been Shock if I had known what it meant. At my workplace people just wouldn't say even very mild swear words

I think there's something about the sound of the word 'cunt' that is particularly harsh and offensive, which is exactly why it's useful to keep in reserve. Sometimes people really are cunty, and no other words fit IMO
