To wonder why MN has turned into such a bitch fest recently.

I have been coming on MN on and off for about 2 years and have always found it to be very useful for reading others advice and asking others for advice, reading reviews and getting holiday advice. There will always be times when people will disagree or not like other peoples advice, but I have been truly shocked recently at some of the posts I have read.

I am quite an outspoken person (in real life), but do try to adhere to the mantra of 'Don't put anything online that you would not be prepared to say to anyones face' but OMG even I have been surprised at the amount of bitchy, nasty responses some people have received on here recently.

I know that it is difficult when communicating just through the written word, as there is no body language or intonation to always give the correct message, but some posters really do think it is ok to be really nasty and make personal comments. Name calling seems to be the 'in thing' at the moment and I have to admit, that I just don't get it - not from grown women.

The majority of people who make these types of comments, probably wouldn't dare to say these things to people's faces, but think it is perfectly ok to do it online.

Can we at least have a week where we think about what we post and if we can't post anything constructive and polite, then perhaps don't post at all.

Yes, I think it's actually quite a dilemma to know how to behave towards the so-called old-timers, who have actually not been on the site as long as many of those going Hmm

It's certainly a PITA to upset them, because then they mob you; yet it feels so morally wrong to stand by and see them do their worst to a newbie.

flashsale · 10/03/2012 10:16

I think it's great that at least all this is being said, instead of just thought by Hmming lurkers.

Whatmeworry, you are spot on.

BIWI · 10/03/2012 10:23

Why is this - again - about old timers? I see more of this bitchiness from new/more recent posters. Those who love to pile in on AIBU because they think that bitchiness is 'de jour' there.

And again - if you see this behaviour - report the posters.

flashsale · 10/03/2012 10:30

Newbies are unlikely to tell other posters to fuck off to Nethuns, though, are they? Or to use acronyms and code words which are incomprehensible to people new to the site?

BIWI · 10/03/2012 10:31

Doesn't stop them being rude/unpleasant though - with or without acronyms!

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 10/03/2012 10:36

Hear hear

In my opinion its prob best not to use nasty vitriolic language when accusing others of being bullies and.vitriolic cos you sort of lose the moral high ground.

Just sayin'

FannyPriceless · 10/03/2012 10:47

I saw an explanation from MNHQ once about why they would delete a post that said "fuck off to nethuns."

Rudely telling someone to leave the site is considered abusive. Swearing is not. Or something like that.

So I think I would report a post with that in it. Unless clearly said in a humorous way be someone who knows me. I think.

flashsale · 10/03/2012 10:48

Well, obviously the less rude people will have been told to fuck off to Nethuns, won't they? And will have done so.

I expect I am about to be told the same.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 10/03/2012 10:49

i have never told anyone to fuck off to Nethuns Grin

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 10/03/2012 10:50

i dont even know who people mean by "old timers who tell people to fuck off to Nethuns" tbh

BIWI · 10/03/2012 10:51

Me neither.

flashsale · 10/03/2012 10:51

Thanks, Fanny, I hadn't seen that commitment from MNHQ. Makes a difference.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 10/03/2012 10:51

but read loads of pretty nasty stuff about "them" which seems a bit hypocritical to me

flashsale · 10/03/2012 10:53

Here we go...

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 10/03/2012 10:55

here we go?

Why do you say that?

I already said I haven't ever told anyone to "fuck off to Nethuns"

But because you recognise my name and I have an opposing opinion to you you are starting with all that nonsense?

Seems to be bullying to me, but in the other direction.

I have only spoken to BIWI a few times ever, but because we are on a thread with you and having a differing viewpoint (expressed pretty politely) you are going to trot out the "bullying" shite.

Seriously, wake up to yourself.

BIWI · 10/03/2012 10:58

Eh? What do you mean, flashsale?

I thought we were having a discussion/debate about all of this - what are you trying to do?

Confused

X-posted, clearly Grin

Whatmeworry · 10/03/2012 10:59

There are also definitely covens groups who flock onto threads to give Peiple They Disagree with a good kicking over. I suspect there are DMs and whatever flying, as they all seem to appear roughly at the same time.

In my time here I've worked out what/who some are, but they are forever changing their names too which makes it harder to spot that that person stalks/hounds you thread after thread after thread. I am also of the opinion some have multiple personae on MN.

its all very sad, but hey....

BIWI · 10/03/2012 10:59

I don't mind offering hugs! Although obviously I do this in a manly way.

Grin
fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 10/03/2012 11:00

Whatmeworry, there definitely are

(FWIW I am not in any although some people probably think i am)

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 10/03/2012 11:01

I give hugs and a surreptitious arse grope at the same time Blush
