to NOT want a cleaner?

it seems to be very common on MN; paying another person to clean your house. Why can't the adults in the house do it between them? And once the kids are old enough to hold a duste,r teach them to help out as well.

I'd hate someone else in our house cleaning up our mess. It sends a bad message to children too. And no-one in this age of dishwashers, washing machines, vacuum cleaners is too busy to do it themselves.

OP posts:
Glittertwins · 03/03/2012 21:53

The norm, I meant, not some random male cleaner called Norm.

blushingcrow · 03/03/2012 21:54

Well at least one poster said she found it odd that working parents didn't have a cleaner.

Completely different world to mine,.

Glittertwins · 03/03/2012 21:55

All my friends work, only one other has a cleaner so not normal here, nor have I stated it was.

blushingcrow · 03/03/2012 21:57

I'm not criticizing people for having cleaners honest , I'm just saying in my world it doesn't happen.

trixymalixy · 03/03/2012 21:59

So one post from one MNetter has made you loathe MN Hmm.

blushingcrow · 03/03/2012 21:59

and I am being a touch sensitive I agree Grin

PurpleRomanesco · 03/03/2012 21:59

And what of the people who would have a cleaner? You are aware that you are no better than them, work harder than them or are more "house proud"?

Mominatrix · 03/03/2012 21:59

Why all this controversy over having a cleaner? Is it some British class thing which we forriners will never understand?

I have a cleaner who comes to me twice a week...and I am a SAHM. She is a god-send who does a far better job on many domestic job than I do. I pay her well and let her know that she is very appreciated. I still have to do housework every day she is not there, but the work she does ensures that my house is kept to an acceptable level (to me) of cleanliness.

Not sure why I am not supposed to employ her when financially it is no burden (frankly, the amount I pay her in a year, despite being a very good rate, is less than I spend on school fees in one term) and allows me to maintain my sanity (priceless).

PurpleRomanesco · 03/03/2012 22:00

X Post!

blushingcrow · 03/03/2012 22:01

No read the thread, loads say I grew up with a cleaner , maybe you were born to clean etc .

I feel like a square peg in a round hole on here tbh.

PoohBearsHole · 03/03/2012 22:04

Well, I work, and I don't have enough time to clean the house all in one go. If I did I might do, but in addition I have 2 small children who don't understand that when mummy is cleaning they can't get all the toys out, or stick their hand in a bucket with cleaning products in.

I prefer to cook and do a good job at that, I can and do clean but having a cleaner means this is more manageable. So shoot me.

DamnBamboo · 03/03/2012 22:04

Constant I really want to understand your stance of cleaners

Please can you elaborate, I'm genuinely curious.

trixymalixy · 03/03/2012 22:05

This thread is going to attract more people with cleaners than without. There are all sorts on MN from all walks of life.

TheFallenMadonna · 03/03/2012 22:06

I do have a cleaner, but I do get it though...

I feel the same way on private school threads. When people talk about it being the "right thing for our family". I want to yell "that's totally NOT THE POINT".

I don't though, generally Grin

People use the envy argument for that too...

PurpleRomanesco · 03/03/2012 22:07

Sorry blushing my post was to Constant.

There are lots of sections on MN! You shouldn't be feeling like that.

Who is the sock puppet then?

CreepyWeeBrackets · 03/03/2012 22:25

Grin at all breatheslowly's posts on this thread.

My first cleaner worked semi-naked (for the five weeks out of twenty that she turned up) as well. But she dressed like Rhianna on-stage in RL...

blushingcrow · 03/03/2012 22:27

Because people sort of agree with the OP they are sock puppets?

DamnBamboo · 03/03/2012 22:28

But what is the point thefallenmadonna?

TheFallenMadonna · 03/03/2012 22:32

About private schools? Or cleaners?
The OP has answered about cleaners, as have a couple of others.
You don't agree, I don't agree, but their given reasons are not to do with envy as far as I can see.

DamnBamboo · 03/03/2012 22:33

I don't even know why I'm posting on this thread.

I have asked three separate posters, who are against having a domestic cleaner, why it is a bad thing, and nobody has come up with a reasoned, coherent response.

TheFallenMadonna · 03/03/2012 22:34

They haven't come up with a response you agree with.

Chubfuddler · 03/03/2012 22:35

They haven't actually come up with a reason at all. Except it's wrong. But can't say why.
