to NOT want a cleaner?

it seems to be very common on MN; paying another person to clean your house. Why can't the adults in the house do it between them? And once the kids are old enough to hold a duste,r teach them to help out as well.

I'd hate someone else in our house cleaning up our mess. It sends a bad message to children too. And no-one in this age of dishwashers, washing machines, vacuum cleaners is too busy to do it themselves.

Oooh! My very first Biscuit

diabolo · 01/03/2012 19:32

Sorry - I wish I could afford a cleaner again, so YABU.

Pagwatch · 01/03/2012 19:33

That's your choice.
I hate housework. I pay someone you do it.

So?

EndoplasmicReticulum · 01/03/2012 19:33

I wouldn't want one. I'd feel I would need to tidy up first.

I just have a messy house.

Pagwatch · 01/03/2012 19:34

Someone to do it.

Although you could do it if you like. I pay well.

SwedishEdith · 01/03/2012 19:35

I want a tidier really. Since I can't manage that, it would be pointless having a cleaner

pictish · 01/03/2012 19:36

What does it matter?

I HATE cleaning. f I could afford a cleaner I'd have one in a trice. And??

ChasingSquirrels · 01/03/2012 19:37

don't have one then, that's fine.

I have a cleaner cos I don't want to do it myself, I am obviously perfectly capable of doing so, and have enough hours in the day - but I don't want to.
Best £20 I spend a week.

NoMoreInsomnia12 · 01/03/2012 19:38

Petit bourgeois nonsense.

thefurryone · 01/03/2012 19:39

I hope those highly hoiked judgy pants aren't chaffing.

It's actually none of your business why I have a cleaner, and I honestly couldn't give two shits if anyone thinks I'm lazy for doing so. Having one improves my quality of life, makes me happy, my family happy and provides employment.

Multifacetediguana · 01/03/2012 19:40

I hate housework therefore I pay someone to do it. I work full time and prefer to spend my evenings and weekends spending quality time with my family rather than scrubbing the floor. Not sure what it has to do with anyone else, though.

catgirl1976 · 01/03/2012 19:42

Trust me - I am too busy.

And I don't want to do all my own housework.

I am creating a job for someone. If you don't want one - don't get one. It really is that simple.

As for a bad message? What message is that? Honestly, get a grip of yourself :)

Threeprinces · 01/03/2012 19:43

I hate housework too so pay a cleaner, it was the one thing I would hate to have to give up. I'd rather not go out than sack the cleaner.

Winkly · 01/03/2012 19:43

It's not a matter of 'can't', it's a matter of 'bloody hate it, can afford to have someone else do it, so I'll pay them'.

What would all the cleaners do for money?

Do you ever buy bread/icecream instead of making it? Get a taxi instead of driving? Go out for a meal that someone else cooks? How do you feel about people having a manicure instead of painting their own nails? Hope you knit your own jumpers scarves and gloves too OP.

ByTheSea · 01/03/2012 19:43

DH and I are both working full-time with a fairly lengthy commute. I want to spend the rest of my time doing things other than cleaning and mostly spending time with my DC. BTW, I still shop, make fresh dinners daily and keep the house running and DH still does laundry, ironing, gardening etc. DC help out by loading and emptying dishwasher and when asked run a hoover, etc. And I hate cleaning!

bibbityisaporker · 01/03/2012 19:45

I totally love my cleaner, she is wonderful. I pay her £10 an hour and give her three hours to clean our 3 bed 1 bath house ... so she loves me too.

Our cleaner has at least halved our number of marital arguments, therefore well worth the £16 a week. Fwiw I don't have a dishwasher or a vacuum cleaner and only got a washing machine for the first time this year. Maybe that's where I'm going wrong Grin

ViviPru · 01/03/2012 19:49

Guess what. I have a cleaner. And I don't even have kids!

fbnomore · 01/03/2012 19:51

orka, if only things were as simple as they are in your life. If all adults pulled their weight when it came to housework, and the sun always shone, and nothing bad ever happend.
is it nice, living in your little bit of heaven? the rest of us peasants wouldnt know. we live in the real world where its always the woman who has to come home after a long physically exhausting day, and cope with long, physcially exhausting houswork, cooking blah blah blah. so excuse me whilst i get a tiny little bit of calm for myself by paying someone else.

chipmunksex · 01/03/2012 19:52

Not wanting one is fine, but sneering at people who do is unreasonable.

OrkaLiely · 01/03/2012 19:52

Everyoe has got time to clean up after themselves! Spend "quality time" (bleurgh phrase) teaching your kids a valuable life skill rather than letting them believe it's OK to have another woman person clean up after them.

Or don't - and have a cleaner!

DublinMammy · 01/03/2012 19:54

I have a cleaner, I have one DS and am a SAHM and I couldn't give a toss what anyone else thinks.... I won't give the "non-cleaner brigade" a second thought as I snuggle into my deliciously clean bed tonight, expertly made by her fair hand.....

fbnomore · 01/03/2012 19:56

only in your world orka. Some of us actually have to work for a living.
