To think all men are basically pervs?

Hi there

Felt compelled to ask this as just lately I have really been seeing men in a different light when in social settings. Perhaps I am just getting old and grumpy or reading something that isn't there.

I have been to a few parties recently and have been really conscious of men eyeing up very young almost tartily dressed teenagers. These girls were dressed very glamorously but waay too old for their age. I saw a couple of girls probably aged 16/17 and a couple over 18's, but not by much.

What I found worrying was middle aged men blatently eyeing them up and more worrying men in my group of friends/family. Men old enough to be their dad's. Not necessarily gawping but craftily staring when they could. Now I'm talking not just about a pretty girl but proper tarted up, hot pants the lot.

It made me feel quite sick to see middle aged men perving like this, so am I being unreasonable here to think even nice guys are secret pervs and although they may not be happy with their daughters dressed up like that, they will happily ogle others?

men don't stop develping till they're 25. So you're saying that to fancy them under that age is wrong?

Honeydragon · 02/03/2012 10:51

A culture in which tabloids run countdowns to 16 year olds birthdays Sad

NotaDisneyMum · 02/03/2012 11:07

What has age got to do with it?

Most men and women find certain physical forms attractive - whether that is the form of a 15 year old or 50 year old is irrelevant!

The Cadburys Caramel bunny was an animated rabbit and she was 'perv'd' over by thousands of men!

ClothesOfSand · 02/03/2012 11:14

Men can't get pregnant Jackin; it will not have any impact on their bone development if they impregnate somebody else. The average amount of time it takes for them to support themselves in most natural cultures is 18-21 years. But the whole biology argument still seems ridiculous and irrelevant anyway.

People on here are saying, men look at 16 year olds because they're more fertile (no, they aren't) presumably because men have an overwhelming urge to impregnate 16 year olds (no, they don't).

Most men don't want to impregnate 16 year old girls. In fact, most men, most of the time, don't want to impregnate anybody of any age. They find people sexually attractive and want to have sex with them for a wide range of reasons, most of which have nothing to do with anybody's fertility.

It isn't nice to openly slobber over anyone, no matter how gorgeous, to the point where the person feels uncomfortable. It isn't all that nice for adults (irrespective of gender) to make remarks about the attractiveness of young teens if the teen might overhear, if the remarks are vaguely lecherous. It's one thing being 15 and dressed up in your latest and wanting people to think you look wonderful, but actually hearing someone old enough to be your dad, who you don't fancy in the least, mutter about what they could do with you, a bottle of baby oil and a couple of Abel & Cole veg boxes could absolutely traumatize you.

However, the adult who looks at the glammed-up teen and thinks slightly wistful or indeed lustful thoughts but keeps those thoughts private/at least only shares them with friends somewhere the teen is going to be unaware of them, isn't doing anything wrong.

This has been slightly on my mind of late as one of my friends (in her 40s) has a 17-year-old admirer. I have been taking the piss mercilessly giving her advice along the lines of, it's fine, you're a decent person, be kind and friendly and steer him in the right direction and I will stop calling you Garriet Glitter.

Archemedes · 02/03/2012 13:38

Archemedes, one of my male relatives is very very attractive (he models). We were at a charity rugby match and he changed his shirt. I literally went "gosh" in my head at his torso and about 20 seconds later "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew".

haha you sicko!!

Archemedes · 02/03/2012 13:43

As wierd as it sounds an episode of scrubs summed this up quite well.

often these 'openly slobbering men' are products of a different generation they've probably been behaving like that since their teens. its not really something that starts as they get older. Just no-one wants to see an old'un perving :D

Not sure if this has been said already, but isn't it also because men are so bleedin obvious with their look up and downs? something about lack of periphery vision? i think women look too (maybe not as young), but i think they're a lot more discrete about it. men stare, women glance. maybe?

Archemedes I know, I know. To this day my mum still phsl when she remembers us driving home with me in the car making "ick" noises all the way home. Blush

NoMoreInsomnia12 · 02/03/2012 14:26

It all sounds pretty normal to me.

carmenelectra · 02/03/2012 14:40

The biology argument is bollocks.

Yes a teenage girl is fertile and can get pregnant, doesn't mean any girl should though.

And teenage girls are more at risk of miscarriage. Dont know exact statistics but they are. And the reason for that is i guess, that their bodies arent mature enough to carry a pregnancy.

Now i cannot belive the bullshit that men fancy 15 yr old girls because it's biology and they look like women. We are not talking cavemen.

I do find younger men attractive, for sure. Men though, not boys. Well over 18.

And yes, I could appreciate that a 16 yr old boy may be very good looking, but that would be it. No sexual thoughts. Yuck.

However, a man ogling a sexily dressed teenager is most likely having sexual thoughts.

I don't agree that all men are pervs, but I do think many men do view much, much younger women in what I would consider an inappropriate way.

yup women would never leer or ogle young guys.
remind me again, I'd imagine every women over 25 who went to see Twilight or One Direction did so because they admired the artistic merit.

mayorquimby · 02/03/2012 15:45

ugh.. the remind me again was meant to be typed in an e-mail I'm writing at the mo.
useless at multitasking

"i think women look too (maybe not as young), but i think they're a lot more discrete about it. men stare, women glance. maybe?"

I think that this is what women would like to believe but tbh you lot are just as obvious. I just don't think men really care or feel put off by it. Also it'd be quite rude to bring up.

e-mail was too the girlfriend. she'd heartily agree to join in.

I don't think that girls are fully physically mature at 15/16 are they - mostly they look like they've just shot up growing. I would say 18/20 was more like it. Just because someone is physically capable of reproduction doesn't mean they have stopped growing and are fully physically developed - boys start producing semen years and years before they are fully physically developed.

SardineQueen · 02/03/2012 17:17

I also remember hearing something about how younger post-pubescent girls are more at risk of STDs as something to do with their genitals is not fully mature. Will see if I can find it.

I was fully mature before 14 as many girls are nowadays tbh.

couldithavedonesomething · 02/03/2012 17:21

Yeah cervical cancer is a bit risk for people who are sexually active too early.

SardineQueen · 02/03/2012 17:21

Well that's a sample of 1.

Many girls keep growing up and out after 14.
