To think the Welsh

have better resealable cheese packets than we do in England.

While in Wales this weekend I purchased some Welsh cheese (very nice it was too) and the resealable strip was like a little plastic velcro srtip not like our little thin strip that is hard to reseale

This is not a critisism of the Welsh just an observation but it does make me wonder what other little gadgets that make life easier do they have. Things like self squeezing tea bags

Colliers is superior to Cadod imo Doilooklikeatourist.

Funtimewincies · 23/02/2012 10:27

'Cadog' even Hmm.

Astronaut79 · 23/02/2012 15:26

Woo hoo! Are you all in proper N Wales though, or on the dirty eastern edge bit, like me?

Bellend, Id be no good on teh welsh language thread - was taught it for 9 years in primary school and High school and never really got much further than: 'Gai fynd i'r toiled, os gwelych yn dda' and 'Dwi'n hoffi sglodion'. Good at French and GErman though. I blame the teachers the classes of 37 and the general apathy towards learning welsh, because we were all going to escape far, far away.

MixedBerries · 23/02/2012 16:05

North coast/foothills of Snowdonia for me. Proper North Wales. I grew up over on the island, left at the age of 17, did my thing elsewhere, came back to the country last year age 33 having forgotten almost all the Welsh I was taught. Good at Japanese and also German strangely enough. Maybe we should start a German language thread, dirty, dirty Astronaut79!

Funtimewincies · 23/02/2012 16:08

Rough border country here too Astronaut Grin. Similar experiences of school Welsh but I'm re-learning as an adult.

BelleEnd · 23/02/2012 16:36

I was brought up just outside Bethesda, Berries.

I was VERY lucky re. the Welsh language- My mother was Welsh, and Dad is English but learned Welsh. They spoke Welsh to us at home so it's not something I've had to learn as an adult- I am so appreciative to them for doing that, and it really cheers me to see so many children in Welsh schools. :)

Astronaut "Dwi'n hoffi sglodion" is all you need, really...

MixedBerries · 23/02/2012 16:43

Oooh. We have friends in Gerlan and Rachub, BelleEnd! And DS's second hand pram is from Bethesda! I bet we know a few people in common.

Rezolution · 23/02/2012 16:48

Astronaut You must have gone to my old school! You sound just like me. I am in the eastern bit of North Wales too.
Well, I went to school in Hawarden, Flintshire but then I "emigrated" to a place near Wrexham but still in Wales (just about)

DoingTheBestICan · 23/02/2012 16:50

I went to school in Wrecsam & now live just outside Mold.

daiawnti · 23/02/2012 16:53

Still think I am the only one from the canolbarth here. (mid Wales)

vixsatis · 23/02/2012 17:10

Bit late here but just to say Welsh cheese is wonderful
Gorwydd Caerphilly
Perl wen
Caws Cenarth
Waitrose standard Pembrokeshire block cheddar

Beef and lamb also heavenly; but pork/bacon/sausages not so good generally

Astronaut79 · 23/02/2012 17:35

Not quite, REzolution - Flint! Was probably around the same time though. One of my friends is re-learning Welsh. I feel like I should, but being a teacher means I have no spare time! THe sad part is, my mum's family were all Welsh first Language but didn't speak it to her because they were afraid it would hold her back, therefore she couldn't teach us.

I've ended up in Deeside, so so much for getting far, far away! Grin

Rezolution · 23/02/2012 17:49

Astronaut 79 Flint! My mum was brought up in Flint. I lived in Deeside until I got married and came to Rossett. Small world hey?

BelleEnd · 23/02/2012 17:51

Nono *daiawn- I am in the canolbarth, by the sea... Whereabouts are you?

Ooooh mixedberries I bet we do know the same people! I'm actually from a tiny village outside Bethesda but went to Ysgol Dyffryn Ogwen (best school in the world, obv).

So nice to have a Welsh thread, makes me feel all Calon Lan inside :o

BelleEnd · 23/02/2012 17:52

Oooooh I have family in Rosset rez and I go to Wrexham a lot because that's where my closest Primark is
I love Wrexham. I choose it over Chester every time.

Rezolution · 23/02/2012 17:56

Bellend Yes I agree with you, Wrexham is a lot more user friendly than Chester. I went to both today as it happens.
First I went to Chester to Rymans to get cheap cartridges for printer and then I HAD to go all the way to Wrexham cos my DD2 left her PE kit on the bus so I had to go all the way to King Street Bus Station to get it back.
And then I had to deliver it to her school which is in Chester!

BelleEnd · 23/02/2012 18:00

Ooooh you poor woman! It takes about 2 hours for us to get to Wrexham, but we go quite a lot for the Primark and the charity shops because we are mean

eatyourveg · 23/02/2012 18:03

Can I ask you lot from the north. What is the southern version of a Gog?

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 23/02/2012 18:03

Prynhawn da pawb

WelshLadyCDF · 23/02/2012 18:11

Southern version of gog is something like Hwntw.
Hwyl.

Astronaut79 · 23/02/2012 18:12

I know, I always assume people on MN all live in southern ENgland and are a combination of 4x4 yummy mummies and child-popping earth mothers!

I am neither, so not sure where that assumption comes from.

REzolution - I'm originally from Holywell, but did school in flint. Looks like we're both working our way outwards though!

Have to disagree about WRexham though; I find it a twat to drive to. Having said that, I am contributing to the death of the high street by shopping online and at Broughton Park!

daiawnti · 23/02/2012 18:13

Right in the middle in the hills ....not by lan y mor. Although do love a day out to Aberystwyth.

mamijacacalys · 23/02/2012 18:26

Siwmae pawb!
Hwntw from Carms here.
To the poster who asked about S Wales availability, Cadog and Colliers cheese available in our local coop or Morrisons. Not sure about Tesco as don't often shop there.
The Hairy Bikers recipe for welsh rarebit is delish by the way - includes beer (of any nationality!)

NeldaAufwader · 23/02/2012 18:29

I love Welsh people, I'm aware I'm generalising but don't care. I worked in a hospital that held a Welsh contract and we'd have lots of Welsh patients in and out. Every single one, every single one was lovely. I can't explain it, they just were. That is my small experience on which my opinions are founded.
Oh and whenever I've holidayed in Wales people have been nice.

If Norman Price were real my opinion may be different.

Rezolution · 23/02/2012 18:33

Astronaut Yes, I taught in Holywell High School. Then I left to have the DCs.
Happy memories of Holywell though. Still have friends there too.
My Mum lived in Coleshill, Flint and went to Chester Road Primary School.
