To think the Welsh

have better resealable cheese packets than we do in England.

While in Wales this weekend I purchased some Welsh cheese (very nice it was too) and the resealable strip was like a little plastic velcro srtip not like our little thin strip that is hard to reseale

This is not a critisism of the Welsh just an observation but it does make me wonder what other little gadgets that make life easier do they have. Things like self squeezing tea bags

I have become an expert since the carrier bag charges! I wouldn't have minded as much but it seemed to coincide with supermarket carrier bags being such poor quality that you have to be lucky if they make it home still containing shopping!!

Top Re-usable bags (probably just in Wales lol )
Morrisons 39p? I think average size and last ages
Sports Direct 69p - huge ones!
Lidl for the ones that keep stuff cold.
I keep them in the car boot... and still forget to take them in the shop Angry

Have not discovered nifty cheese wrapping, will be cheacking this out as I normally end up putting it in a sandwich bag!

*checking even....

marshmallowpies · 22/02/2012 12:05

I recently had a holiday on the Welsh borders and had to keep remembering about the bag thing depending on which side of the border we were on! Luckily I usually have a few spare bags for life in my bag, but did get caught out a few times...

Welsh cheese is nom. I have a favourite deli in Caernarvon where you can get v yummy stuff!

Astronaut79 · 22/02/2012 12:06

When we go to Chester shopping, everyone stocks up on carrier bags. I don't need a bag for that lipstick, you say? I most certainly do! In fact, I'll have two!

Doilooklikeatourist · 22/02/2012 12:25

5p for a tesco carrier bag , complete and utter tosh , I try to keep copious amounts of the hessian bags in the car .
However ... 5p for a Jo Malone bag ( including tissue and bows ) utter bargain.
Just need a bag I can fold up and keep stashed in my handbag .
My favourite cheese is either Pont Gar or Boksburg Blue ( drools )

Funtimewincies · 22/02/2012 14:30

If you're a cheese-lover who finds themselves in Llangollen, pop along to Porters in Market Street. The proprieter is a little on the dour side (or maybe she just takes her cheese very seriously Grin) but you'll come away a very happy bunny.

LucyGoose · 22/02/2012 16:38

Umm, I don't know what half of this food is but it sounds yummy.
Its making me hungry!

And welsh salty butter? Where can I get this in the US?

GoingForGoalWeight · 22/02/2012 18:16

To quote the OP, 'This is not a criticism of the Welsh'. Thanks for the laugh.

BeeBawBabbity · 22/02/2012 18:25

I've had that cheese too. Bag was very satisfying to close:)

Astronaut79 · 22/02/2012 20:43

Does all this welshness mean there are actually Mners in n.wales then? Everyone I know/meet seems to be a netmum.

Sglodion (chips) is a lovely word to say, especially if you swallow that 'g'.

gaelicsheep · 22/02/2012 21:41

We pay for carrier bags in Scotland. Certainly in Aldi and the Co-op (ScotMid). Not in Tescos etc. Are we subsidising those polluting English folk then?

MixedBerries · 22/02/2012 21:55

ASTRONAUT79!!!!! Alert!!!!! I'm in North Wales too. I've not met any others either (but that's mostly because internet connections and broadband speeds are shit round here).

NormanTheForeman · 22/02/2012 22:02

Black Bomber cheese from Snowdonia is also lovely! Fortunately, we can buy that where we live in Ipswich! Smile

Rogerbacon · 22/02/2012 22:05

re the carrier bags

I always walk round with a couple of carrier bags on my person ( just in case) and they also come in handy for sitting on damp benches after the rain
Dont you have those big bags for life for your big shop?

I finished my Welsh cheese off last night in a cheese and red onion toastie sigh

I made an arse of myself in cribbs causeway once moaning in Gap about paying for a carrier bag. My mum pointed out that we were "abroad" so didn't have to pay!!

Avocets · 22/02/2012 22:44

My mum is in south wales and she gets free bags on a roll to pick up dog poo (or at least she did until recently - now she has dementia and doesn't get out as often.

A good use of public money, I thought - although come to think of it, it doesn't sit easily with charging 5p for bags in shops.

We spend a fortune on sandwich bags for poo uplifting, so some free ones on a roll would be very nice.

She also has a very superior looking small indoor compost bin supplied by the council that I am very jealous of.

Then again, in England we have dedicated poo bins in the parks, which I find oddly reassuring, no matter the science.

Forrestgump · 22/02/2012 22:51

Tip ...... Tesco Internet shop delivered with bags in wales have no charge for bags! The tesco delivery man informed my sil.

Freshlettice · 22/02/2012 23:44

Cardibach I'm just up the road from The Perl Wen farm too Grin
Yes people, there are MNrs in Wales!!

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 22/02/2012 23:56

Perl Wen is lovely.

Can't be doing with Colliers though, far too strong. Whatever bag it's in .

aGog1 · 23/02/2012 00:46

mixedberries and astronaut79 - I'm in North Wales too - with, I'm very pleased to say - a packet of nicely sealed Cadog cheese from Rhuthun Tescos in the fridge Smile

BelleEnd · 23/02/2012 09:03

There used to be a Welsh language thread on MN but it petered out...

Doilooklikeatourist · 23/02/2012 09:09

Just so glad I haven't given up cheese for Lent this year !
I'm in Carmarthenshire , I normally buy Cathedral City cheddar, feel I need to change , so where shall I start , Colliers or Cadog ?

Funtimewincies · 23/02/2012 10:25

Gog North Walian here too Grin.

SecretNutellaFix · 23/02/2012 10:26

Depends how strong you like the cheese. I find Colliers a bit too strong sometimes.
