Spero, I do not hate those followers of different religions or none at all. I am totally not violent, nor have I ever been in the past. I have loving relationships with a number of gay people. I am a single mother.

But that is by the by, what have I done to you that you feel warrants an apology?

Spero · 21/02/2012 00:16

You are probably a super nice person Dione.

But the point I am making is that IF you belong to a religion that has done a lot of really shitty things to other people over the years, and continues to do so then I consider you, wearing your religious person hat, have a lot more to apologise about than me for saying 'sweet baby Jesus!' or similar in times of stress.

ComposHat · 21/02/2012 00:18

Listen, I don't need to be told to go to bed and won't be dismissed in such a high-handed manner. the fact remains that you seem to think that you should be able to drift through life in a bubble with no one questioning your views.

I respect your right to belief in God/Jesus/whatever, just as I respect the right of people to believe in Allah, that mad Elephant headed God with loads of arms the Hindus like, a flat earth, fairies in the bottom of the garden, unicorns, the tooth fairy.

It doesn't stop me thinking it is a pure fantasy.

sozzledchops · 21/02/2012 00:18

Iaintinfromkansas - my point was as a young child i didn't choose a religion, it was practically forced on me, yes by my parents but also by the church who also had no scruples about encapturing young children without their consent. So yes, they were the ones that introduced me and taught me the words. I am very tolerant of relgions but religion made those same words second nature and yes sometimes i use them, almost involuntary as they did such a good job, i don't mean to offend but i paid my dues and will use them as when I want.

fatlazymummy · 21/02/2012 00:23

iaintfromkansas and you sound very childish.
I did read the post thank you.

MildlyNarkyPuffin · 21/02/2012 00:24

Ho-hum, obviously it's not ok to pick on and disrespect other religions/races etc but once again Christianity is a free for all mock-fest.

Get a grip and remove the stick from your collective arses.

I, like many other posters with Irish Catholic family, have grown up hearing hearing 'Jesus, Mary and Joseph', 'Hells bells' etc. It's not done to offend you. It's often done by people who are Shock Christians.

No, not super nice, just a regular person.

A normal everyday person and I am responsible for my actions. I am not responsible for anyone else's. I am not responsible for atrocities carried out in the name of my religion, my country or my ethnicity. By the same token I do not hold responsible those of other faiths, nationalities or ethnicities for violence done in their names.

For example, I do not take responsibility for the violence perpetrated in the Iraq and Afganistan even though I am a UK citizen. Nor do I take any responsibility for the subjugation of any people by the British Empire.

I am still unsure what I have done that has hurt you and requires me to apologise to you.

Serendipity30 · 21/02/2012 00:35

MildlyNarkyPuffin I did not say that Christian's don't do this, what I said was it was disrespectful.

ComposHat I was simply 'robustly' giving you a suggestion that is all.

sozzledchops I am sorry that you had such a negative experience, but we have all had negative experiences in our lives that does not mean we have 'paid our dues' and can be disrespectful to others.

Jebus iaint thought you were going to bed

Spero · 21/02/2012 00:40

Dione, I have tried to make it clear. I am not sure why you are off on this tangent and want this thread to be about me forcing you to apolgise??

It has been suggested I am being offensive to take the Lords name in vain. I have responded that those who follow the lord have done far worse things, so if anyone should be offended it is me at their actions.

Not sure what else I can say? I don't hold myself responsible for the slave trade for eg, but by the same token I wouldn't argue that the British Empire had always conducted itself with decency and compassion for all humans.

MildlyNarkyPuffin · 21/02/2012 00:40

Ah. So you get to decide what's disrespectful on behalf of all Christians.

Maybe you should stop focusing on the specks in the eyes of others.

Spero · 21/02/2012 00:41

Anyway time for bed. I hope to wake to a more tolerant and lovely world. Goodnight all.

Serendipity30 · 21/02/2012 00:41

MildlyNarkyPuffin I can see this thread has hit a sore spot for you and yet you are still here

Good night Spero

sozzledchops · 21/02/2012 00:43

actually patronising Iaintfromkansas, it wasn't that negative apart from the part where we sneaked a peak at the priest stoking my friends hair during confession which we all thought was hilarious at the time. I am very tolerant regarding religions, shame you can't be as tolerant yourself.

ComposHat · 21/02/2012 00:43

I was simply 'robustly' giving you a suggestion that is all

And I will ignore your suggestion. I will see it as a sign that you have utterly lost the argument as you can't back up your position with reason.

Jesus may love you, but it is a pity everyone else thinks you are a tool.

Serendipity30 · 21/02/2012 00:47

sozzledchops genuinely meant what I said in my previous post. But there's only so much emotion you can place through a message board
